~ Hugo Strange to Icicle Sr.
Hugo Strange is an antagonist in season 1 of the DC animated seriesYoung Justice. Strange is portrayed as the psychiatrist in Belle Reve Penitentiary, while serving as a secret operative for theLight.
Strange acted as a well-intentioned healer for criminals at Belle Reve, but unbeknownst to his colleagues he had a secret agenda. It is revealed that he orchestrated a riot withIcicle Sr. in order for the psychiatrist to supplant Amanda Waller as warden of the prison. Though the riot and attempted escape is ultimately subdued, Strange is still able to replace Waller's position and continues to covertly serve the Light's interests.
Strange secretly spied on the Team when they arrived at Belle Reve to questionProfessor Ivo on where they can find rival scientist,T.O. Morrow and allowed him to warn Morrow after Zatanna made him give up his location. He later arranged forSportsmaster to temporarily spring Ivo from prison while placing a robot duplicate in Ivo's cell to ensure no one would notice his absence.
After an ambush on the Young Justice Team revealed the Light's connections to the penitentiary,Vandal Savage alerted Strange and ordered him to open all of the cell doors in Belle Reve. Strange was subsequently firedin absentia after subsequently fleeing from the prison.
