George McKinzie is the main antagonist of Disney's 1980 live action movieSultan and the Rock Star, which is based on the 1979 novelSandy and the Rock Star by the late Walt Morey. He is a wealthy poacher who owns Sportsman's Island and plans to hunt down Sultan. He is the boss ofAlec Frost and Joe Ironwood.

He was portrayed by the lateKen Swofford.

History[]

McKinzie had a long history of hunting animals throughout the world. However, his leg became somewhat crippled during one of his hunts, thus limiting him to hunting animals Frost brings to Sportsman's Island as a result of his injury.

In the first scene of the film, a tamed television tiger named Sultan is shipped to Sportsman's Island and turned aggressive as Frost relentlessly torments him for McKinzie to hunt him.

Two days later, McKinzie heads over to Sportsman's Island on his boat, unaware that a runaway rock star named Paul Winters has snuck onboard. Upon arriving there, Frost drives McKinzie to his cabin and Paul explores the island. Paul encounters Sultan and decides to protect him from McKinzie when he recognizes him. They sneak over to McKinzie's place to get some food, while McKinzie and his men hear about the news of Paul's disappearance on the radio. Paul and Sultan sneak into McKinzie's storage room and escape in time as McKinzie and Frost head out for practice targets.

While Paul and Sultan are sleeping in the cave, they are awoken by gunshots outside the cave as McKinzie and Frost shoot at the cave in an attempt to provoke Sultan into coming out, but Paul holds him back and the hunters leave. The pair head back to the storage room, but Sultan alerts the dogs and they escape. However, they are spotted by McKinzie's caretaker, Joe Ironwood and he explains McKinzie's motives and history to Paul. While they're having lunch, Frost reminds McKinzie that Sultan is still on the island and McKinzie explains that he's not worried. The following night, during dinner, McKinzie orders Frost to bring out the dogs for the hunt the next day.

The next morning, Ironwood warns Paul about the dogs, but he informs him about a mystical island known as Walkon Island, a refuge where Sultan would be safe. Frost sets the bloodhounds loose and a chase is ensued throughout the island, but Paul manages to elude the hunters by washing Sultan's scent away on the shoreline. The dogs continue to pursue the pair, but the pair manage to elude the hounds when Paul marks Sultan's scent inside McKinzie's cabin, causing the dogs to wreak havoc inside. The hunters arrive back at the cabin and witness the dogs trashing the place. McKinzie angrily accuses Frost for leading him on a wild goose chase and orders him to take him back to the mainland. However, as Frost prepares his truck, he and Ironwood witness Sultan leaping onto their truck and they shake him off.

Frost informs McKinzie about Sultan and they head over to the cave. As McKinzie climbs to the cave, Frost warns McKinzie that it's risky, but he ignores him. As he makes it to the top, McKinzie accidentally drops his rifle and it discharges. Sultan comes out of the cave and attacks McKinzie, causing him to tumble down the hill and injure himself. Frost and Ironwood carry McKinzie away back to the boat as Sultan roars in triumph. Upon arriving the boat, McKinzie decides to sell his island and fires Frost, declaring that he has more respect and honor for Sultan than Frost. Though Frost is still determined to hunt down Sultan, his efforts would fail, as Paul and Sultan escape onto a fisherman's boat and Sultan is released onto Walkon Island.
