History[]
The Geonosians are an insectoid species native to the planet Geonosis. Geonosians reside in hive colonies in organic-looking spires. All Geonosians have a hard exoskeleton, elongated faces, multi-jointed limbs, and speak in a strange language.
Geonosis (as seen inStar Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones) is a barren rocky world home to thousands of factories geared towards mechanical construction. Many of the Galaxy's biggest manufacturing concerns hold contracts with the Geonosians.
In Geonosian society, there are two main types of Geonosian: the wingless drones that mostly work as laborers, and the winged aristocrat, which includes royal warriors serving as scouts and providing security to the hive. They look down on their wingless cousins. Geonosians do not have a standing military, although they do arm themselves with sonic blasters and static pikes. They instead use their droid foundries to build armies for corporate interests wealthy enough to afford them, entities such asthe Trade Federation andthe Techno Union.
Poggle the Lesser was a Geonosian Archduke who appeared inEpisode II and oversaw the production of battle droids for the Trade Federation and later provided the bulk of the troops for theConfederacy of Independent Systems. He was decapitated byDarth Vader on Mustafar inStar Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
In the video gameStar Wars Battlefront II, the player must fight a Geonosian named Gizor Delso who is trying to use the droid factories on Mustafar to create his own army.
Geonosians make an unique appearance in Lego Star Wars: The Video Game, appearing with one of two weapons (either their characteristic sonic blaster or a normal blaster rifle) randomly, beyond the player's control.
InStar Wars: The Clone Wars, it is revealed that the Geonosian Queen Karina the Great uses a kind of "brain worm" to ensure the loyalty of other Geonosians. This mind control exists even after the host's death, although the "Geonosian zombies" have pure white eyes.
Later inStar Wars: Rebels, it is revealed that the Geonosians were forced to build the Death Star for theGalactic Empire after the Clone Wars. After the Death Star was finished,Grand Moff Tarkin ordered the genocide of the entire species with the use of poisonous gas, killing all 100 billion geonosians except for the sole survivor Klik-Klak. Klik-Klak was later encountered on Geonosis by theGhost crew andSaw Gerrera. They helped him to protect a geonosian egg which was later used to to hatch a new Queen. Sadly, this Queen was sterile and unable to preserve her species, attached herself to a droid factory which produced modifiedBattle Droids. She was later wounded and forcefully separated from the factory byDarth Vader and his accomplicesChelli Lona Aphra and0-0-0 who wanted the droids for his secret plot to overthrow the Emperor, sadly destroying any chances for the survival of the Geonosian race.
