TheDeviants are the secondary antagonists of the 2021 superhero movieEternals, the twenty-sixth movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
They are the creation of theCelestial beingArishem the Judge, to extinguish apex predators in different planets to make it possible to intelligent life to evolve there, in order to make possible to a new Celestial to be born from that planet, and continue the death-life cycle in the universe. However, a fail in Arishem's project made the Deviants turning in the apex predators themselves, which led to the creation of the Eternals to stop them.
Personality[]
The Deviants are mindless creatures, whose only actual thoughts are their instinct to kill intelligent life in order to survive, despite them being created toallow intelligent life to evolve in different planets, this purpose changed due to an error in Arishem's project making them. Despite that, they are aggressive, violent, dangerous, and malicious, often stalking their prey before attacking it. Deviants can develop consciousness however, but only after absorbing a intelligent being's energy, and the only known Deviant to have ever done that isKro.
Biography[]
The Deviants were originally created in the World Forge by the Prime CelestialArishem the Judge, with the purpose of going in planet to planet and kill apex predators that could be potential threats to the growth of intelligent life there. However, due to an unknown mistake in Arishem's project while making them, the Deviants ended up turning in intelligent-life predators, and the main threat to the growth of intelligent life themselves. Arishem then created the Eternals, a race of bio-generated super powerful and immortal beings, with the mission to destroy all of the Deviants to prevent them from ending the Emergence cycle in another planets, which is basically the birth of a new Celestial, who requires intelligent life to happen. The Eternals mostly succeeded in their mission, freeing many planets across the universe from the Deviants (despite the fact that planets were going to be destroyed due to the upcoming Emergence).
Planet Earth[]
The team of Eternals who had the mission of freeing planet Earth from Deviants, led by Ajak andIkaris, constantly fought and killed them, and eventually freed the planet from Deviants, and were send by Ajak to live their own lives in that planet. Unknowningly, however, a group of Deviants survived but were trapped in ice in a forest, but eventually, as the ice weakened, they freed themselves. Ikaris, after learning that Ajak wanted to prevent the Emergence to happen, lured her to that forest, and pushed her into the abyss where the Deviants were. She fought them, but was eventually killed by their leader, Kro, who absorbed her powers, becoming stronger, and sharing a fraction of these powers with the other Deviants in his pack, and then, the Deviants went once more on their plan of extinguishing all intelligent life in that planet.
Kro attacked London, more specifically, two Eternals, Sprite and Sersi, and a human named Dane Whiman, who was Sersi's boyfriend. With the help of Ikaris, Kro was defeated and ran away from London. After Ikaris telling them the news, he, Sprite and Sersi went on a mission to find and reunite the other Eternals around the globe. The next time a Deviant appeared was when Sprite, Sersi, Ikaris, Kingo, Gilgamesh and Thena were looking for Druig, another Eternal, in the Amazon Forest. There, Druig's personal village was attacked by Kro's pack of Deviants. The Eternals fought and killed most of them, with exception of Kro, who managed to kill Gilgamesh and absorb his powers. Kro gained consciouness, and then vowed to kill the Eternals as a form of revenge after they killed his species for so much time. He appeared in an Island where the other Eternals were fighting against Sprite and Ikaris, who were trying to make sure the Emergence in Earth would happen. He attacked Ikaris, but was fought by the other Eternals, as if he killed Ikaris and absorbed his energy, he'd become too powerful to be defeated. Eventually, he fought Thena in a dark cave, taking advantage over her and her mental illness, the Mahd Wy'ri, by mimicking Gilgamesh's voice. However, she managed to overcome Kro's lure, regain conscience, and kill him with her sword, eliminating the last of the Deviants in Earth.

Trivia[]
- In the original comics, Deviants were much more humanlike and not at all mindless. Also, they are of extraterrestrial origin instead of coming from Earth unlike the comics. They are considering one of three main branch of Homo-Sapien along with Human-Eternals and baseline humans all created by Celestial. Their jobs is to reproduce with baseline humans to give birth to humans that would later become mutants which have superpowers but still stable genetic compare to their predecessor deviants.
- It is currently unknown if there are other Deviants in the universe, or if the ones who were in Earth were the last ones. If the latter is right, the Deviants are officially extinct after Kro's death.
- It's unknown if Skrulls in MCU are deviants like in comics. Considering the different deviant origins and autospy scene in Captain Marvel movie say they are not regular Carbon-based life from.
