Sophisticated

Category page
It differs, but I have everything to be a high-standing person in general. I have the wealth, the manners, and the type of personality to get threw with it. You all might be slobs, butI,I, am not by a long shot.
~Ella Visagie on her sophisticated manner.
I believe in taking care of myself, in a balanced diet, in a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the icepack, I use a deep pore-cleanser lotion. In the shower, I use a water-activated gel cleanser, then a honey-almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb mint facial masque which I leave on for ten minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after-shave lotion with little or no alcohol because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm, followed by a final moisturizing "protective" lotion...
~Patrick Bateman describing his morning routine.

Sophisticated villains are characters who are exceptionally cultivated, mannerly, and refined in behavior, often as a result of coming from or interacting with a higher social status. As a common, they are clever, intuitive, manipulative, experienced, worldly-wise, aware, and tend to be knowledgeable in regards to deep, obscure, psychological, philosophical, ideological, and/or uncommon topics of contemplation. They usually act in a generally polite albeit condescending and opprobrious manner ranging fromgenuine respect tomanipulating others withfalse kindness. It is also common for them to look down on others they consider "lower" or less cultured than them.

Although they are descriptively the exact opposites ofBarbarians, they can often devolve into such, either through losing their sanity as the story progresses, or once their true selves are revealed (e.g.Eddie Gluskin,Ridley,Kingpin,Red Skull,Dr. Robotnik,Professor Ratigan,Kokushibo,Hannibal Lecter,Judge Holden,Oswald Cobblepot,Esdeath,Mrs. Tweedy,Green Goblin, many versions of theJoker,Shredder,Nicole Wallace,Thanos,Ajax,Clayton,Morlun,Junko Enoshima,James Hook (2003),Darkseid,Dick Hardly,Major andSir John Talbot).

This may also encompass complex villains with moral standings and views others are unable to describe (i.e.Rick Sanchez,Anton Chigurh andShadow the Hedgehog).

They are the villainous counterparts ofsophisticated heroes and the opposite of theheroic jerks.
