Why do people insist on creating things that will inevitably be destroyed? Why do people cling to life, knowing that they must someday die? ...Knowing that none of it will have meant anything once they do?
~Kefka Palazzo.
Gods don't exist, and Buddhas don't either. Yet these people lived for decades without realizing it. Once they die, it's all just gonna return to nothing. They won't feel anything. And then they rot into the ground. As long as you live on this Earth, that's your eternal fate. They just can't accept that simple fact. It must be so hard being stupid. I want to make these sorrowful people happy. I want to help them. That's the reason I was born, after all.
~Doma.

Nihilists are villains who believe that the existence of life has no purpose, value, or meaning, their own included. Nihilists do not believe in moralities and all rules and/or codes they follow are superficial or for practical reasons. They usually do not have specific long–term goals, will sink to all levels of depravity to further their arbitrary objectives, and are oftensociopaths, psychotic and/orsuicidal. They can overlap withSocial Darwinists andHarbingers for Rebirth as well through shared beliefs in bringing about the"end times" and leaving others or themselves to pick up pieces left behind by the messes they have created.

Most nihilists wish to destroy everything in existence or at least whatever is possible for them to destroy. What makes them some of the most dangerous and unpredictable villains is that they have nothing to lose, not even their very lives. At the highest point, they arecataclysmic, due to a desire to literally erase everything as they see fit. Like many powerful and far-reaching villains, they might just be able to make their twisted dreams into reality. However, it is important to note that not ALL nihilists will act like this, but mostly the more sinister or destructive ones will.

Someredeemed nihilists decide to appreciate life more and stop being nihilistic (e.g.Thorfinn) after their redemption (although they might not too). It should also be worth noting that nihilists can still be capable of caring and/or beingprotective over a select few while still being uncaring to everyone else.

Sometimes, nihilists can beparanoid, showing low to moderate fear of certain things, such as beingimprisoned or trapped in an inescapable situation, where their fear does stem from the loss of autonomy and agency, as well fear losingcontrol over theirnarrative or beingused by others to serve a purpose they perceive as meaningless.

Good examples of nihilists includeDoma,Jobu Tupaki,Vincent,Kefka Palazzo,Owlman,Isaac Ray Peram Westcott,Lavos,Null,Count Bleck,Black Moon,Junko Enoshima,TheLich,Davy Jones,Judge Holden,Herrscher of the Void,AM,John Doe,Agent Smith,Patrick Bateman,The End,Invictus,Thanos,Fang Yuan,Obito Uchiha,Johan Liebert,Urizen,Masayuki Kaneki,Micah Bell,Darth Nihilus,Kirei Kotomine,Vile King,Vaas Montenegro,The Joker,Michael Myers andHunter.
