Big Baby is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongsideKen) of Pixar's 11th full-length animated feature film,Toy Story 3, the third installment in theToy Story franchise.

He is a baby doll who was once one of Daisy's toys, alongsideLots-o'-Huggin' Bear and Chuckles the Clown. When Lotso got replaced, Big Baby was then callously manipulated by Lotso himself into doing the latter's dirty work in Sunnyside Daycare. But then, he eventually saw the whole truth, and he realized that Lotso's nothing but a massive liar. He's also Lotso's former minion and friend.

Despite not having much speaking lines, he was voiced by the uncredited Woody Smith.

Appearance[]

Big Baby is a large, strong and merciless toy baby with childlike scribbles that resemble tattoos and a broken eye, made to look like a lazy eye.

Biography[]

Beginning[]

In early life, Big Baby belonged to an owner named Daisy, along withLotso and Chuckles. Then, one day, after a picnic, Daisy fell asleep and drove away, accidentally leaving Lotso, Big Baby, and Chuckles behind. Lotso made a pendant for Big Baby which said "My heart belongs to Daisy", hoping that someday Daisy would come back to find them, though she never did.

However, Lotso and the others went on their way back to Daisy's house, but it was too late when Lotso discovered that he was replaced with another Lots-o-Huggin' Bear. Enraged, Lotso decided to leave Daisy. Big Baby wanted to stay with Daisy, but Lotso angrily told him that she doesn't love him anymore before he threw away his pendant and dragged him away. Unknown to Lotso, Chuckles secretly kept the pendant. As the three toys were wandering, they found Sunnyside, and Lotso turned it into a prison, with Big Baby as his third officer. That said, Big Baby due to having the mind of an infant, wasn't aware that what he was doing was wrong.

Toy Story 3[]

Big Baby first appears from the bathroom when Lotso shows Andy's toys around Sunnyside. Lotso also foreshadows a bit about his and Big Baby's backstory, saying that they were abandoned by the same owner.

Later on, when Buzz Lightyear escapes the Caterpillar Room to talk to Lotso, he sneaks inside the vending machine (which acts as a secret hideout for Lotso's gang) and eavesdrops on the gang's conversation. Before he could go back and warn Andy's toys, Big Baby catches him.

Big Baby and the other members of Lotso's gang then capture Buzz and brainwash him by switching him into Demo mode. They later lock up Andy's Toys. Just when he was about to put Mr. Potato Head in his cell, Lotso stops Big Baby, and orders him to put Mr. Potato Head inside the sandbox instead, saying that he "needs to learn himself some manners." At daybreak, Big Baby returns the sand-tortured Mr. Potato Head back to Andy's Toys. The next night, Big Baby, Buzz (who has been reset into Demo mode), and Ken chase Mr. Potato Head when they see him trying to escape. After Mr. Potato Head insults Ken and kicks him, Ken angrily orders Big Baby to take the potato back to the box. When Woody and the gang were escaping Sunnyside, Woody, Bullseye, and the Little Green Men were nearly caught by Big Baby, who is on a swing from the playground. They quietly sneaked past him until one of the Little Green Men accidentally squeaked, causing Big Baby to rotate his head at irregular angles. Fortunately, Woody, Bullseye, and the Little Green Men were able to avoid being seen by hiding inside a bucket. Once Big Baby is out of sight, the toys meet up with the rest of their friends.

Soon, Lotso and Big Baby caught up with Andy's Toys, and Woody showed Lotso and Big Baby the pendant that says, "My heart belongs to Daisy." As he looked at the pendant, Big Baby started to cry as he remembered his former owner, which enraged Lotso. He then snatches the pendant from Big Baby. He also tells him that Daisy never loved him, and that he should "stop being such a baby", before smashing the pendant with his cane. This makes Big Baby cry even more, before he gets abused by Lotso again when he attacks him with his cane and calls him a "dummy", shocking everyone.

Big Baby, now fed up with Lotso's lies and behavior, picked him up and tossed him into the dumpster,redeeming himself in the process. Then, he helped Woody and the gang escape when the garbage truck showed up. He also blows a raspberry at the tyrant. Nevertheless, Lotso still took Woody into the dumpster, which forced the other toys to rescue him and later end up in the landfill, where Lotso was about to leave them to their deaths. However, this was all for naught as the Little Green Men were able to save them, while Lotso was picked up by a garbage man and strapped on the truck's grille.

During the film's epilogue, Big Baby is seen enjoying a happier life at Sunnyside, seemingly adopted by Barbie andKen.

Trivia[]

Because Lotso tricked him as well and took advantage of his young nature, Big Baby likely didn't have any agency over his actions. This makes him one of, if not the most sympathetic villains of the franchise.
The way Big Baby threw Lotso into the dumpster mirrors the wayDarth Vader defeatedEmperor Palpatine inStar Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi.
Big Baby's voice actor, Woody Smith, shares the same first name with theToy Story franchise's main protagonist, Sheriff Woody.
