HÀ NỘI — The country’s top badminton players Nguyễn Tiến Minh and Vũ Thị Trang got married on December 26 in HCM City.

The two athletes were in a relationship for almost three years.

On his Facebook, Minh announced: “I got married today and will step into a new interesting page of my life.”

They are both Việt Nam’s number one athletes in badminton.

Minh has dominated the nation for more than a decade, while local champion Trang is providing stiff competition to continental and world competitions.

Both athletes represented the country at the August Rio Olympic Games.

Minh, 33, had plans to retire after the Olympics. But it seems he is still undecided: “M (Minh) and Tr (Trang) will continue competing in 2017 before other decisions. Hope you guys will support both of us. Now, please share our happiness. Love you all,” he posted.

Minh is ranked No 5 in the world. He has bagged a number of titles, but his best is the bronze medal at the World Championship in 2013. He is the only Vietnamese who has participated in three consecutive Olympics.

Trang, 24, made an international mark with a bronze medal at the first Youth Olympics in 2010. She also won a bronze at the Southeast Asian Games in 2013. Trang is the second Vietnamese female badminton athlete to win an Olympic berth. — VNS
