Netflix continues to draw strong viewership with content surrounding Lyle and Erik Menendez.
True crime documentary “The Menendez Brothers” was the the most-watched title on the streamer during the week of Oct. 6-12. Premiering on Oct. 7, it hit 22.7 million views in its first six days of availability.
The film benefitted from recently increased attention on the brothers, drummed up by real-life developments in their case as well as Ryan Murphy’s scripted series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” Having premiered on Sept. 19, the series is in its fourth week on theNetflix Top 10 and remains popular, landing at No. 3 with 8.7 million views.
The two TV titles to beat “Monsters” were Season 4 of “Outer Banks,” which debuted No. 1 with 15.5 million views in its first three days of availability, and “Nobody Wants This,” back at No. 2 with 9.6 million views after debuting there and then spending one week in the top position.
“Outer Banks” will certainly spend an extended period on the Netflix Top 10; in addition to its already established popularity, only the first five episodes of Season 4 premiered on Oct. 10, while another five will debut on Nov. 7.
“Nobody Wants This” was one of three romance-related titles on this week’s TV chart: there was also “Love Is Blind” Season 7 at No. 4 with 4.9 million views and “Heartstopper” Season 3 with 2.6 million views. Netflix has seen significant success in the genre this year: Last week, for example, “Emily in Paris” Season 4 wrapped up an eight-week stint on the Top 10, while “Bridgerton” became the streamer’s sixth-most-watched English-language title of all time this summer.
“The Amazing Digital Circus” took fifth place with 3.6 million views, followed by Ali Wong’s stand-up special “Single Lady” with 2.7 million. After “Heartstopper,” the bottom three positions went to “The Perfect Couple” with 2.5 million views in its sixth week on the chart, Volume 5 of “Unsolved Mysteries” with 1.9 million and Season 1 of “Prison Break,” which has been enjoying renewed interest after its recent addition to Netflix.
