‘Game of Thrones’ Sets Record for Most Emmy Wins in a Year

Game of Thrones” entered the 2015 Emmy race with a pack-leading 24 nominations, and will leave as the record holder for most wins for a series in a single year, taking home12 Emmy awards including Outstanding Drama Series; Outstanding Writing for showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss; Outstanding Directing for David Nutter; and Outstanding Supporting Actor for starPeter Dinklage.

The series woneight of those 12 awards at last week’s Creative Arts Emmys, including Outstanding Make-Up for a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic); Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series; Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary or Fantasy Program; Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series; Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Scripted Series; Outstanding Special Visual Effects; Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series.

The series dethroned previous record holder, NBC’s “The West Wing,” which won nineEmmy awards in its first season. “Game of Thrones” now ties with “West Wing” and “Hill Street Blues” for the drama with the most wins over the course of its run — and theHBO show will undoubtedly surpass that record before it eventually ends.

HBO won 14 awards during the Primetime Emmys ceremony, also scoring Outstanding Comedy Series for “Veep,” and Outstanding Limited Series for “Olive Kitteridge,” among a slew of other wins for those shows.
