Scotts cast lot with Fox

Filmmakers committed to helm at least one pic for studio

Filmmakers Ridley and Tony Scott and their Scott Free shingle have inked a three-year first look deal with 20th Century Fox.

Under the pact, which goes into effect Oct. 1, Scott Free will develop and produce movies across all Fox film divisions. They are each committed to directing at least one pic for the studio.

“Ridley and Tony are an unparalleled filmmaking powerhouse,” said Fox toppers Tom Rothman and Jim Gianopulos in a statement. “Whether together or individually, as producers or directors, they are at the absolute pinnacle of their art form. We feel honored by their choice.”

Although financial details were not disclosed, deal is ostensibly a good fit for both companies.

Fox can count on two pics from A-list helmers and a first crack at their other projects, while Scott Free has the opportunity to develop into a full-service production entity, offering a studio connection to young talent emerging from its sister commercial production company, RSA.

Before signing on with Fox, Scott Free had a two-year first-look deal with Disney-based Jerry Bruckheimer Films. In the past, Scott Free has been based at the Mouse House, as well as Polygram and Universal.

Staying in WeHo

Instead of moving to the Fox lot, the shingle will remain in its West Hollywood offices. Deal will not affect Scott Free’s second-look agreement with Intermedia Films.

Over the past two decades, the British-born brothers have been among the most high-profile, prolific filmmakers in Hollywood.

Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” won the best picture Oscar in 2000; his previous helming credits include “Alien,” “Blade Runner” and “Thelma and Louise.” He is in post-production on Revolution Studios’ “Black Hawk Down.”

Tony Scott’s directing credits include “Top Gun,” “True Romance” and “Enemy of the State.” He is in post on Universal’s “Spy Game,” starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt; pic bows in November. His “Hell’s Angels” project is in development with Elizabeth Gabler’s Fox 2000.

In a statement, the Scotts said, “The entire Scott Free team is excited to be working with Tom and Jim at a studio that shares our passion for filmmaking.”

Deal with Fox was brokered by David Nochimsom and Skip Brittenham of Ziffren Brittenham Branca & Fischer. Both Scott brothers were repped by CAA, though Ridley recently ankled the agency and has yet to sign with a new rep. Tony continues to be repped by the tenpercentery.

In addition to their duties at Scott Free, the Scotts serve as co-chairs of Pinewood-Shepperton Holdings, which owns Shepperton and Pinewood Studios. Ridley Scott also is co-chairman of London-based digital production and post-production house The Mill.
