Sanctions other than those imposed by EU and UN and their implementation in Finland
Finland complies with sanctions imposed by the EU and the UN. Sanctions imposed by other countries are not legally binding in Finland, and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs does not provide advice related to them.
Finland implements sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) (the Act on the Fulfilment of Certain Obligations of Finland as a Member of the United Nations and of the European Union). Sanctions imposed by other countries, such asthe United Kingdom or the United States, have no legally binding effect in Finland.
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has no competence in sanctions imposed by third countries. Matters related to them are dealt with by the national authorities of each country. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs does not provide advice on the content of national sanctions imposed by other countries.
Businesses decide independently whether to comply with sanctions imposed by other countries. Banks and other companies engaged in international business may comply with sanctions imposed by other countries because of the broad environment in which they are operating and their risk management processes.
