Genetic, morphological, geographical and ecological approaches reveal phylogenetic relationships in complex groups, an example of recently diverged pinyon pine species (Subsection Cembroides)

Abstract

We propose that an integral approach is needed to analyze complex taxonomic groups. Genetic, morphological and geographical data define species boundaries and phylogenetic relationships in pinyon pines. We suggest a reevaluation of the conservation status of Subsection Cembroides. The combined approach should be considered in other groups with similar complexity.
