The Flash Spoilers
Courtesy of The CW

“There’ll be a lot of deaths this season,” executive producer Todd Helbing ominously teased duringThe Flash‘s San DiegoComic-Con panel on Saturday.

In possibly related news, Season 5’sBig Bad Cicada is “not so much a cult leader” like he is in the DC Comics canon, Helbing explained. “But his powers present a challenge for Team Flash that they’ve never had to deal with before.” (Speaking of the comics, there will be a younger version of the Rogues this season.)

Other highlights from the panel Q&A:

* “We’re going to kick off the season with a newer Wells who has come to join these people,” his portrayer Tom Cavanaugh shared. Sherloque Wells, as he’s called, is “a very intelligent human being who is maybe not to be trusted.”

* Helbing promised that fans will learn “why and how [Caitlin] got [her Killer Frost] powers. She didn’t get them from the particle accelerator explosion. She’s working on [figuring out] how that came to be.”

* Cisco’s “powers are going to be challenged like they never have before, in a perilous situation,” actor Carlos Valdes revealed.

* On Helbing’s wish list for the second half of Season 5: an episode featuringboth Gorilla Grodd and King Shark.

* The show will introduce a LGBTQ character this season, Helbing said.

* Gustin is “very, very excited” that Barry finally has his Flash ring, as seen in the Season 5 trailer. “It’s something we wanted to happen for a long time,” he shared, adding that it comes with “a really, really cool new suit.”

The Flash Season 5 premieres Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 8/7c onThe CW.

  1. No trailer posting?

  2. No one cause as we learned last season they don’t have the balls to make deaths count on this show

    • Except for Eddie, Ronnie, H.R., Iris’ mom, both of Barry’s parents, all of the bus metas except for Ralph, and a bunch of the villains… you’re right: hardly anyone dies on this show.

  3. If you’ve read the comics for this season’s Big Bad, you will know that he kills people that The Flash has saved in order to revive his dead wife. This fits perfectly with The CW version of The Flash become every season you have a situation with Barry goes into a self pity spiral and blames himself for what’s happening.

  4. I hope it’s Iris who dies

    • Productive comment. You seem nice.

    • I haven’t been a fan of Iris for the last season and a half, but we have their grown daughter, so I’m going to say that’s not going to happen.

    • Lmao Iris haters are so sad and predictable.

    • It won’t be but you can keep hoping and stay bitter like all the Iris haters who don’t understand there is no show without Barry’s lightning rod.

      • Here you are! I know you would be there to defend Iris just like I am. I have been rewatching the show since the beginning. Iris has always contributed to the team . During the flashtime episode when she helped come up with the solution to get rid of the bomb people complained it should have been the other characters. Those people need to go back and see Iris has helped the team solved many problems before. In season 3 she was the one to find out about Julian and his team and the stone first. Season 2 she helped with Grod when Barry was stuck. Just a few examples. Those Iris haters and snowbarry fans can go take several seats. Iris is here to stay especially since they have a grown up child and the relationship is cannon.

        • Hey Fifi! You know I couldn’t help myself :).
It’s too much fun to watch the Iris haters collect Ls every season and rub it in their faces. First it was Iris is Barry’s past and Caitlin’s his future, then it was Patty is the one, then it was Savitar will rid us of Iris, then Barry will never marry Iris, then she will be infertile and won’t be able to give Barry children, then Nora is ab-solutely NOT Iris’ daughter. They’re watching an entirely different show and I’d be embarrassed to make any more predictions given their track record but… being loud and wrong is their MO so.
          .
Of course Iris has contributed to the team. She’s the one who figured out Julian was lying about the Philosopher stone. She’s the one who saved Barry in Flashpoint. I could go on but I won’t, because the antis’ problem is not that Iris is so called “useless”, the coded language they use to diminish her importance in the narrative. If it were, they wouldn’t be foaming at the mouth E-VERY time she came up with a solution and try to invalidate it by calling the fact that she uses logic, reasoning, memory, heck a computer, “bad writing” because she’s not a “genius”, while they never seem to have an issue with Cisco explaining Speed Force concepts to Barry, the actual speedster, or Caitlin being every kind of medical specialist under the sun based on the plot-of-the-week.
          .
Their issue isn’t Iris, it’s the fact that Candice Patton plays her. Full stop. That’s why you don’t argue with them. You just laugh, while they go crazy over the fact that a girl who looks like Candice, has the audacity to be the leading lady who’s the apple of the superhero’s eyes. Even if Iris never did anything for the team, her role would still be, being Barry’s lightning rod. The one who reveals, jump-starts his powers simply by touch, the best friend who held him when he mourned his mother as a child, shared her home with him when he had no one and was his greatest support alongside Joe before “Original Team Flash” (lol) was even a notion.
          .
They want Iris dead and yet make complete abstraction of the fact that the show has SHOWN us in “The Once and Future Flash” that a dead Iris means no more Barry running, no more Flash heroics in Central City, no more Star Labs and no more of their precious “Original Team Flash” (lol). There’s no logic behind their visceral hatred of Iris, so let them seethe, while Westallen work on making a beautiful caramel-toned baby girl in their loft. Bloop! ;D

  5. “an lgbtq character” I bet my life it’s a queer woman. For some reason the arrowverse just can’t/doesn’t do gay men (besides Curtis, but he’s kinda meh)

    • Captain Singh is married to his husband Rob.

      • He was basically on once this whole season, and hasn’t had a single storyline. Hardly a fully realised gay character

        • To be perfectly honest, I could do without a lot of the romantic storylines, across all the DC shows, across all sexual aligments. For me, Singh is a positive example. He’s married, he’s gay and that’s it. Case closed. No weekly drama and secret keeping and inevitable blow-up. If they give Singh’s husband and their relationship a bigger focus, I bet you that the writers’ only idea will be to kill Rob and then everybody will scream “kill your gays” again. Just leave them be.

        • He is a fully realized gay character. He is openly queer, he talks about his husband, and we’ve seen them together multiple times. He’s had multiple conversations with Barry and Joe about their relationship throughout the years – from when they were dating, when they were getting engaged, and when they were married. He’s just also a side character who isn’t going to get his own storyline just like other side characters.

          • We’ve seen him twice. A time in the hospital in S1 then when he saved from a burning building, and they’re relo has barely been mentioned. He’s a tertiary character… hardly comparable to Sara, Alex and Anissa and theyre epic storylines.

          • Who said he was comparable to Sara, Alex, and Anissa? Singh has always been a side character – not a main character. That doesn’t make him any less of a fully realized gay character. And yeah his husband has been seen only a few times – he was also on this season at Barry and Iris’ original church wedding. That also doesn’t make Singh any less of a fully realized gay character. His primary purpose on the show is to be Joe and Barry’s boss. Whenever they talk about his personal life or show his husband, it’s a nice touch, but the show isn’t about him or his husband.

    • You seem to have forgotten about Constantine (who is bisexual), as well as Leo Snart and Ray from Earth X, who are married.

  6. “Sherloque Wells, as he’s called, is “a very intelligent human being who is maybe not to be trusted.”
So… same old same old eh?

  7. I don’t want to rain on Todd Helbing’s wish list, but the longer we can go without Gorilla Grodd and King Shark, the better.

  8. What channel is the flash on we use to see it on CtV but not anymore can you help

  9. I hope it’s iris

    • Lmao it won’t be. She’s the one person (besides Barry’s) that would never die on the show since they’ve already shown that without Iris, Barry ceases to be the Flash. He also ceases to bathe, speak to other humans, and do anything productive at all. If Iris dies, you won’t have a show to watch anymore.
…It’s like some of you are too slow to have followed the basis of season 3’s entire plot, whether you liked it or not.

  10. I wish they’d kept Marlize or brought back Dr McGee or Tracey Brand in the older, super-intelligent mentor role filled by the many Wells. I think it would have been interesting to see Marlize try to atone for all her wrongdoing by joining Team Flash. And the actor was really good in the role.
