A Government spokesman
alleged that he had turned
the Turkish Embassy in
Cairo into a meeting place
for members of the Egypt-
ian Royal Family and poli-
ticians of the old regime,
several of whom had since
been tried for high treason.
The tall. bowler-hatted
Turkish diolomat was re-
ported to have told diplo-
matic corps colleagues that
hts expulsion would lead to
a breach in diplomatic rela-
tions between the two coun-
tries.
Tugay had been in Cairo
since January. 1951. His
wife, daughter of former
Princess Mimot Mikhtar. ac~
quired Turkish nationality by
marriage. She was one of
about 50 members of the
Mohamed All dynasty with
foreign nationality affected
by the Egyptian confiscation

was announced by thc
Egyptian Under Secretary
of National Guidance
(Hassan Abui Seoud),
who said Egypt asked
for Tugay's recall In De-
cember after his critic-
isms at an Ankara Press

leave.
When the Ambassador re-
turned to Cairo he "attacked
the Egyptian Government,
the revolution and its lead-
ers in a most insulting man-
ner unbefitting a diplomatic
envoy." Seoud said
He told the Press that in
recent weeks there had been
a series of diplomatic inci-
dents in public between the
Turkish Ambassador and the
Egyptian Vice-Premier (Gam-
al Abdel Nasserh) and other
Egyptian revolution offlcets.
Tugay was scon off at the
Cairo International Airport
by the British Ambassador
(Slr Ralph Stevenson) and
the Belgian Ambassador.
Tugay. who was accompanied
by his brother, said in French
as he boarded the plane:
"I'll take my revenge."
Although stripped of his
diplomatie immunity, onlj
two of his 14 bags were in«
spected by the Customs.
