FOOTBALL.
Tho Melbourne and Carlton clubs meet for the
first time this season, to-day, at tlio Royal Park.
The following will represent Melbourne, and are
requested to meet at the Freemasons' Hotel, at
twi o'clock sharp :— Byrno (captain), Barker,
Bell, Bennie, M. Carter, Carr (2), Darchy, For
rester, Goldsmith (vice-captain), Hamraill, Hep
burn, Inglis, Loughnan, Moore, M'Crackon,
Read, Ryan, Towle. Wheatland. Emergency :
Corrignu, Cumming, Booth, Gricc. The following
represent Carlton, viz.: — Harnett, Blnnclmrd, AV.
Dalton, Dedmnn, Donovan, Guy, Gardiner, Goer,
Kennedy (3), Macgibbon, Monio, Newing,
O'Brien, James Robertson, Jolm Robertson, Rix,
Wallace, Williams. Emorgoncy : G. Robertson
and Donaldson.
In addition to the contest between the Mel
bourne and Carlton clubs, which takes place in
tho Royal Park this afternoon, tho following
matches will also bo played : —
Albert Park v. Local Force. — This match takes
place to-day on tho Albert Park ground, when
fifteen of the Albert Park moot twenty of the
Local Force. The team to represent Albert Park
will be selected from the following, who are re
quested to meet on the ground at 2.30 p.m.
sharp : — Messrs. Atkinson, Baker, Blair, Carter,
Crooke (2), Chessell, C. Catton, Foote, Gray,
Hart, M'Donald (2), Reeves, Swift, Sandilauds,
M. Taylor, Upton,
Second tweuty Albert Park v. second twenty
North Melbourne. — This match takes place to
day on tlie North Melbourne ground. Albert
Park team aro requested to meet at tho Town
Hall at 2 p.m. sharp.
Richmond v. East Melbourne, in Richmond
Paddock. Kick off at three p.m. sharp.
Alma v. Prince of Wales, on the ground of tho
latter. Members of the Alma club are requested
to meet on their ground at half-past two sharp.
Richmond v. Carlton Union (second twenties),
in tho Richmond Paddock.
Hawthorn v. Essendon, in Urqnhart Park,
Glenferry-road, Hawthorn. Kick-off at three
p.m. sharp. The Essendon are requested to meet
at the Post office at two p.m. sharp.
Ahbotsford v. Carlton Imperial, in the Univer-
sity Paddock. Play to begin ut three o'clock.
South Park v. second twenty of Collingwood,
at Collingwood. South Park muster at tho Town
Hull at half-past two p.m. sharp.;
St. Kilda v. Studley Park, at Studley Park.
Kick-off to take place at throe o'clock.
The second twenty of tho St. Kilda Club play a
scratch match on their ow 11 ground.
Clifton v. second twenty of the Scotch College
Grammar School Club meet in the Richmond
Paddock.
North Melbourne v. Williamstown, at Wil-
liamstown. — The members of the former team
are requested to meet at the Spencer-street Rail
way Station at 1.-15 p.m.
Clio v. Williamstown Locomotive Club meet at
Williamstown ; the gmne to commence at three
sharp.
North Melbourne v. Albert Park (second
twenties) meet in the Royal Park ; tlie play to
commence at three o'clock sharp.
Southern v. Collingwood, at Fawkner Park.
The kick off to take place punctually at 2.30 p.m.
Carlton 2nd twenty v. Richmond Union, in tlio
Richmond Paddock. Tho Carlton players are
rcquosted to meet at 2 o'clock.
Carlton Imperial 2nd twenty v. the Metropolitan
Club in the University. Paddock.
In reference t-ojthe late dispute re tho umpire's
decision given in a match played between tho
Carlton and Albert Park clubs, the former club
lias isent the following apologetic note to the
l'arkites : — " That the Carlton Football Club ad
mit tliey were in error, hut, while regretting the
abrupt termination of the match and the recri
mination that took place on the ground, still
consider that tho circumstances fully warranted
their refusal to submit to tho central umpire's de
cision, and therefore decline to tender the
apology invited by the Albert Park Football
Club.
A largely attended meeting of the members of
tlie St. Kilda Football Club was held at Young
and Jackson's hotel. St. Kilda. on Wednesday
evening, Mr. E. J. Fulford in the chair, to adopt
rules and to appoint successors to tlio temporary
committee elected in April. Tlio following are
the officers of the club for the present season : —
President, the lion. J. J. Casey ; vice-president,
liis Honor Judge Skinner; Captain, Mr. Arthur
Greenwood ; vice-captain, Mr. Frank Fulford ;
Secretary, Mr. G. L. Skinner ; secretary for 2nd
twenty, Mr. E. Curr: treasurer, Mr. Edward
Shew ; committee. Messrs. George Watson and
Frank Fulford. The club is in a very flourishing
condition, there being already over sixty mem
bers.
Matches to be played by the undermentioned
clubs during the season : —

9— East Melbourne, at Royal Park ; 16 — Carlton
1st twenty (eighteen v. twenty), at Royal Park ;
23 — AVilliamstown, at Royal Park ; 30 — Rich
mond, at Richmond Paddock.
September 0. — Collingwood, at Royal Park : 13
— Richmond Uuion, at Richmond Paddock ; 20 —
Hawthorn, at Royal Park ; 27 — Southern, at
Fawkner Park.
October 4. — Hawthorn, at King's Paddock ; 11
— Carlton 2nd twenty, at Royal Bark.

The Duttolhj Express states that nearly tho
"whole of the line of railway between Dun-
olly and Maryborough has been cleared.
Tho Bot Bet bridge, which is the heaviest
portion of tho work, will be pushed on
vigorously at once.
