Nature, culture, and adventure on the island of Hawaiʻi

The island of Hawaiʻi is the largest and youngest of the Hawaiian Islands. Its vast size and ever-changing landscape offer a world of exploration, from towering volcanoes to lush rainforests, making it a dream destination for every kind of traveler. Whether exploring temples, watching a hula performance, savoring the bounty of the island's famed agricultural industry or simply soaking in the island's natural beauty, there's no shortage of ways to experience Hawaiʻi’s rich tapestry of traditions and way of life.

      Discover Diverse Landscapes

Hawaiʻi Island is a world of its own, packed into one island. From volcanic craters to lush rainforests, the island offers an unmatched variety of landscapes. It is home to all but four of the world's climate sub-zones, two of the world’s mostactive volcanoes, hundreds of miles of coastline, the world’s tallest mountain (measured from base to tip) and the most marine life conservation districts in the state ofHawaiʻi. Hike throughHawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park while soaking in the beauty of the vast shoreline and surrounding ocean.

      A Cultural Kaleidoscope

Today, Hawaiʻi is a melting pot of many cultures. You can see this blend in everything from the island’s cuisine and festivals to its vibrant arts scene with traditional crafts like quilting, weaving and kapa-making. Kapa is a bark-cloth made from the stripping, pounding and fermenting of the inner bast fiber of the paper mulberry plant, or wauke. The island of Hawaiʻi is also home to significant archaeological sites such as Puʻukoholā Heiau National Historic Site, several major petroglyph fields and structures and kiʻi (carved images/idols) of Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park.

Adventure Awaits in Hawaiʻi’s Natural Playground

Ready to dive in? Hawaiʻi’s beaches and waters are perfect for every kind of water sport imaginable. Whether you’re snorkeling with vibrant marine life, catching waves on world-class beaches, or kayaking along scenic coastlines, the island offers adventure at every splash.
