For Tab Benoit, music is in the DNA of Louisiana.
Like many kids from Louisiana, music was everywhere when he was growing up. And if Benoit could be found anywhere, it was probably outside in the woods and swamps. He grew up playing to creatures in the swamp long before he found his audiences elsewhere.

As an acclaimed bluesman, Benoit has won numerous awards and received a 2006 Grammy nomination for best traditional blues album forBrother to the Blues. The sounds, rhythms and smells of thoseLouisiana woods and wetlands inspired him to write as much back then as it does today. Seeing the way that music can bring people together and inspire, Benoit realized that music could make change in society.
Benoit is one of the driving forces behindVoice of the Wetlands, a nonprofit organization working to restore and preserve Louisiana’s wetlands. In 2010, he won the Governor’s Award for Conservationist of the Year from the Louisiana Wildlife Federation. He starred inHurricane on the Bayou, a film about the effects of Hurricane Katrina and Louisiana’s call to restore its wetlands.
Benoit has devoted himself to educating people about the beauty of the bayous and wetlands. He says he wants people to see, feel and experience the beauty and importance of Louisiana to help protect it.
