Pinnipedimorpha,Phoca veEnaliarctos'un son ortak atasını ve bu atasal taksonun tüm torunlarını içerecek şekilde tanımlananarctoidetçillerin bir kök kladıdır.[1] Bilim insanları, ya ayılarla ya da musteloidlerle daha yakından ilişkili olduklarından, hangi arktoid etobur soyunun pinnipedimorflara en yakın akraba olduğu konusunda hala tartışıyorlar.[2][3][4][5][6]
