The right to obtain information on the processing of personal data by a competent authority

You have the right to obtain information on the purpose for whicha competent authority collects your personal data and on how it is processed.

The authority will normally provide these details on the processing of your personal data in writing. Often a description of the processing of personal data is also available on the website of the authority in question.

The authority may omit all or part of the information. In such a case, the prerequisite is that omitting the information is necessary in order to

  • avoid detriment to the prevention, detection, investigation or prosecution of criminal offences or the enforcement of criminal sanctions
  • safeguard any other investigation, examination or other procedure of an authority
  • protect public security
  • protect national security
  • protect the rights of other persons.
