In a world of colorful masked warriors, the nefariousLord Zedd used a mysterious artifact to subvert theMorphin Grid. In another reality populated by real heroes and dastardly terrorists,Dr. Mindbender attempted to tamper with the rare elements that constitutedCobra'sM.A.S.S. Device; meanwhile, in yet another universe, the DecepticonShockwave experimented onSkywarp in the hopes of reverse-engineering histeleportation powers. Through a freak coincidence, all three of them simultaneously tapped into a network of interdimensional energy that caused them to merge into a single entity, the villainousLord MindWaveZ, and opened a dimensional rift that brought together many different dimensions into theApex, a chaotic cross-dimensional mishmash of many locations from across themultiverse. Lord MindWaveZ is pleased by the idea of ruling this new world, and plans to construct aMultidimensional Collider that will permanently fuse these worlds into a single realm. However, the dozens of Autobots, G.I. Joes, and Power Rangers who have been pulled into this new realm have pledged to work together and stop their new foes.
A large group of Transformers, Power Rangers, and G.I. Joe members arrive on a floating continent within this new universe. Not far away, on another nearby landmass, Lord MindWaveZ's forces are hard at work fortifying their leader's base of operations--a solid beam of energy bridges these two realms, but the way is blocked by three buildings, each belonging to one of Lord MindWaveZ's individual components. A they arrive,Optimus Prime,Scarlett, andJason Lee Scott greet the new arrivals and quickly get them up to speed on the current crisis--although the top minds of these disparate factions already have an idea on how to restore the damage, it will take a combined offensive to break through the enemy's defenses. Scarlett tells the group that they'll split into teams to take down each building; each group will work some of their most trusted lieutenants.
Each group takes on different roles in the ensuing offensive. Some heroes choose to stay behind in the “White Zone”—the region that Prime and his allies have turned into a base camp. Here, they work alongside Optimus Prime and the other faction leaders, as they lead reconnaissance missions, tend to the wounded, provide extra morale and intelligence for future operations, or simply defend the perimeter from waves ofPutty Patrollers,Insecticon drones, andTechno-Vipers.
A second group launches an attack on the “Green Zone”, a formerCobra genetics laboratory. Inside, the heroes may choose to rescue a group of G.I. Joe operatives and Power Rangers, who were captured and hypnotized with aBrainwave Scanner, defeat a number ofTechno-Vipers, or work to destroy a number of DNA-harvestingVenomization Chambers. Alternately, they may choose to instead sabotage the base’s launchpads, where they run afoul of aCobra Viper piloting aFlight Pod, or work to track the erratic movements of the base’s teleporter system.
The third group attacks the “Purple Zone”, a massive observatory cast in the likeness of Shockwave himself. Here, the protagonists may choose to cripple enemy logistics in several ways: take out the tower’s massive optic scanner, create a diversion to throw Lord MindWaveZ’s forces off-guard, or jam enemy communications by hacking the network itself. Alternately, the heroes may choose to rescue some of the many capturedZords impounded in the tower, or simply face off against the manyInsecticon drones guarding the facility.
The last team attacks the “Red Zone”, an imposing alien fortress formerly inhabited by Lord Zedd. Here, the players may choose to either breach the fortress head-on or provide covering fire for their allies; either way, they come into conflict with a group ofPutty Patrollers capable of mimicking their foes. They might also choose to rescueSnake-Eyes from captivity, work to steal the Z-Staff responsible for turning many snakes into giant monsters, or infiltrate the fortress and drop the force fields shielding Lord MindWaveZ’s domain from a head-on assault.
Either way, the heroes eventually succeed in their mission; their combined efforts eventually destabilize the Apex, and Optimus Prime rallies everyone to charge across the bridge for the final battle.
With Lord MindWaveZ’s defenses down, everyone uses vehicles—alternate modes,Zord robots, or anAmphibious Personnel Carrier—to charge across the energy bridge, battlingTenga Warriors,Trubble Bubbles, andSeekers as they go, then battering a makeshift barricade constructed by MindWaveZ’s remaining minions.
In the final battle, Lord MindWaveZ attempts to activate the Multidimensional Collider; it falls to the various player characters to reverse the machine and save the multiverse. However, the task is made more difficult as Lord MindWaveZ and various minions attempts to fight back against the heroes. Ultimately, the adventure concludes with the heroes reversing the machine, separating Lord MindWaveZ back into their individual components and sending everyone back to their own worlds.
