What happens when you cross-breed Starscream and Shockwave. Logical and psychopathic.

Strafe is a really nice guy, one of the kindest, gentlest mechanoids you could ever hope to meet, and he's a crack shot with his heat-ray rifle, too. It's said that Strafe can burn a hole in a screw head (size not specified) from two miles away. Too bad he can't tighten up the loose screws in his own cranial module, though. He's got a case of nerves that could very well causeRed Alert to fear for his job security, and when startled he tends to SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT FIRE FIRE BANG BANG BANG KILL KILL KILL IT DEAD DEAD DEAD without stopping to aim or analyze the threat, and doesn't quit until he's shot down or runs out of heat-ray charges. Sometimes, though, all is quiet... too quiet... and he doesn't like that, either. SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT FIRE FIRE BANG BANG KILL KILL KILL...

He can combine with the otherTechnobots to formComputron, and seems to make a rather calm limb. Sometimes he's aTargetmaster, in which case his partner isRocketbot.

I mean, we got us some fast action! Hard action! Action hard and fast! Action to get the old pumps pumpin'! Action to—HUH?—YAHOOOO!

Not today, Rusty, not today.

Strafe was created, like the other Technobots, by the temporarily super-intelligentGrimlock from components found withinUnicron's head. The exuberant newborn Autobot was immediately presented with the task of using his flight and firepower to disable Unicron's internal defenses, which he accomplished with a lot of SHOOT SHOOT BLAM BLAM BLOW IT UP!!! The Technobots were subsequently dispatched to aid the Autobots fighting on Unicron's surface against theTerrorcons, and defeated their combined form of Abominus by merging into Computron.Grimlock's New Brain

Less than a week later, Strafe the other Technobots were assigned to anEarth Defense Command science unit in order to learn how to interact withhumans. When reports came in from EDC headquarters of an unknown spacecraft entering the planet's atmosphere, Strafe joinedScattershot andMarissa Faireborn in investigating, and in his eagerness for some action, Strafe wound up opening fire on the craft. Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!!

Strafe was too busy watching the ship crash and congratulating himself to notice that the ship had actually been pursued byHun-Grr of the Terrorcons, who took both him and Scattershot down, but the pair were saved from the two-headed terror by the timely arrival of the rest of their Technobot comrades. The crashed ship's owner, unscrupulous traderDirk Manus, agreed to lead the heroes to a hiddenQuintesson base he had discovered onTitan, and Strafe, Scattershot andLightspeed set off with him the next day. Strafe had little patience for Lightspeed's rambling on the beauty of space, but soon found himself something much worse to complain about when the team was ambushed by Abominus and sent plummeting to the moon's surface.

Nosecone,Afterburner and Faireborn soon arrived to help, rescuing the group from the Sharkticons; they headed for the Quintesson base. In route, Strafe "saved" Marissa from some aggressive vines by wantonly opening fire on them. Blam! Blam! Blam!!

Manus took Marissa hostage and handed them over to the Quintessons, the Technobots' injuries having left them unable to combine. However, the whole thing was a complex double-cross by Manus, eager for revenge on the Quintessons following a deal gone wrong; he used the molecular disassembler/reassembler known as theRecreator to heal Strafe and the Technobots' injuries, and they defeated Abominus and the Quintessons.Money Is Everything

Strafe and his team later got a chance for a rematch with the Terrorcons when they attempted to stop them stealing a heat-resistant alloy from DoctorMark Morgan's laboratory, but this battle ended in failure for the Technobots, and Strafe was tasked with summoningFirst Aid to provide medical care forMorgan's daughter, who was injured in the battle. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1

Months later, Strafe was atAutobot City, talking with his fellow Technobots and theThrottlebots about what a glorious day it was, and about how every day had been a glorious one ever since they ended the threat of the Decepticons once and for all, and the days would continue to be glorious as long as... okay, you know what's coming. The Rebirth, Part 1

When Grimlock created the Technobots, he didn't build them from scratch: In actuality, he reconstructed a number of dead bodies he found within Unicron's head, former victims of the planet-eater. In the midst of a battle with the Decepticons, Strafe took the full brunt of an attack from the villains, triggering the inexplicable transformation of his body back into its original form, a body whose design Unicron had evidently mimicked when he createdCyclonus. Base commanderThunderwing was recalcitrant with the team as they tried to secure Vigilem without leading to violence. AsDirge escorted Lightspeed and Strafe to shut down the energon conduits feeding Vigilem, Lightspeed noticed a heavily secured door that wasn't on Hexagon's schematics. His curiosity prompted an overly aggressive response for their guard, so Strafe kept Dirge busy while Lightspeed hacked his way into the security door. They discovered the criminal scientistAirachnid performing experiments on Thunderwing's behalf. The Technical Solutions Team reunited and then genuinely united as Scattershot fell into theCombination Core, an artificialEnigma of Combination Airachnid had been working on. Only a Technobot could get this much firepower from a pair of Cheetos.
  • Strafe (Technobot,1987)
Released in the fourth year of Hasbro's USThe Transformers toyline (third year in Europe and in Takara'sFight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers line), Technobot Strafe transforms into a Cybertronic "rocket plane" (according to his instructions) with twin front-mounted light-pulse blasters. These cannons can also be used as hand-held weapons in robot mode, making him the only Technobot that can use his vehicle-mode weapons in that manner. Oddly, hisrubsign is oriented upside-down in vehicle mode.
As a "Scramble City"-style combiner, he can form the limb to any similar-construction super robot, though his nominal placement is as the left arm ofComputron.
Later individual releases of all five Technobots wereretooled to remove their rubsign indents.
There is also a packaging variant for all four small Technobots, which included a random bonus Autobot"Decoy" mini-figurine.

Generation 2

Now with white cheddar flavored Cheetos!
  • Strafe (Cyberjet,1995)
Released in the secondwave of theGeneration 2Cyberjets assortment, Strafe is aredeco ofSpace Case, whose alternate mode is a conglomerate of various cutting-edge fighter features, including anhedral (drooped), forward-swept wings resembling theX-29 andSu-47 Berkut, two-dimensional thrust-vectoring nozzles from an F-22, and a nearly flat, V-style tailplane similar to the YF-23 prototype. His right arm has a launcher that fires pressure-launch missiles. These missiles store on the undersides of his wings in vehicle mode.
Apparently, the decision to market the redecos as separate characters was a last-minute change of plans that was only put into use in America and Japan; in Europe, Hasbro supposedly stuck to the original idea for said assortment (here named "Mini-Jets"), with the redecos being sold asrunning change color variants of their wave 1 mold-mates instead, in unchanged packaging featuringpackage art in the original deco and the original character's name. Thus, Space Case was available in Strafe's colors but still marketed as Space Case himself. This practice is only confirmed for the versions available in multilingual French/Dutch/German packaging; thus far, no specimens in English/Spanish/Portuguese packaging or in ItalianGiG packaging have surfaced. This would explain why the "Strafe" release of the figure has Decepticonfaction symbol stickers, despite being released as an Autobot. The Japanese release, meanwhile, lacks the Decepticon-badged stickers, came with an extra decal sheet, and was marketed as a separate character, the former-Decepticon-turned-AutobotStrafe.

  • Computron (Collection Pack,2016)
Combiner Wars Strafe is aheavyretooling of Deluxe ClassAir Raid from the same toy line, replacing most of hisalternate modekibble to better resemble Strafe's original alternate mode and featuring a new head sculpt. His deco and design is mostly inspired by his original toy, but also has large sections of orange previously only used on theGentei! Gentei! iteration of Strafe. Sadly, the pair of weapons that are part of his alt mode's front section are permanently attached and cannot be removed without at least slightly damaging the figure, and he does not have any other weaponry.
As aCombiner Wars Deluxe Class figure, he can combine with any Voyager Class toys released as part of theCombiner Wars/Unite Warriors lines or withLegends Godbomber and form either an arm or a leg for the gestalt form, but his official purpose is to combine with his fellow Technobots and serve as the left arm ofComputron. His retooled parts include a new peg that allows for the includedScrounge figure to be attached to Computron's arm, serving as a "shield".
Strafe was only available as part of a Computron box set, including a poster and a collector card based on the set's packaging art. The set was one of several so-called "Collection Packs" that were "online exclusives" in the United States, available from online retailers such asHasbro Toy Shop,Amazon, andBigBadToyStore as well as the online stores of "big box" retailers such asToys"R"Us,Walmart,Target, andKmart. In Hasbro's Asian markets such as Singapore and Taiwan, the set was available at general retail. In Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, it was sold at Toys"R"Us stores, whereas in Spain, it was available via the Spanish subsidiaries ofAmazon and Carrefour, as well as the department store chain El Corte Inglés, supposedly also only available online.

  • Unlike some of the other Technobots' pre-final rear-view models, Strafe's back view is made up entirely, leaving him with no misplacedkibble caused by isometric angles. While his back view wasn't messed up like some of the others, he received a revised rear-view anyway, as seen in episodes animated byToei.
    • Unsurprisingly, theAKOM-animated episodes used the pre-final models.
    • The revised set of models appears to have been lost after season 3, as Toei ended up using the pre-final versions forThe Headmasters cartoon.
  • In some printings ofStormbringer, Strafe's stutter occasionally pops up in Scattershot's lines. (Maybe it's contagious?)
  • Strafe is the only Technobot to survive to the end of the 2005-2018 IDW comic.
  • The Mini-Con Strafe representingGeneration 1 Swoop in theAge of ExtinctionStrafe Evolutions 2-Pack mistakenly[1] hasthis Strafe'spackage art instead of Swoop's Generation 1 art and lists him as a "stealth fighter" (what our wiki described the 2010TransformersStrafe toy, thought for a time to be Generation 1 Strafe, as). This was because Hasbro no longer had the original Generation 1 Swoop's package art (or at least didn't have it anywhere where they could locate it), so some employees decided to purchase a vintage original... only to discover that by that point, their marketing department, having misinterpreted the significance of theAge of Extinction character's name matching that of another original character, had already printed the original Strafe's package art on the two-pack's packaging instead. Whoops!
