It's not the car or the bus or the train, it's the plane
When we hit top speed, it's always the same
Sweating red hot but chilled to the bone
Side to side, bouncing round the ozone
Tranquilise me! Hypnotise me!
Techno-fear has paralysed me
All around me, people grinning
Laughing while my head is spinning
Shaking like a leaf from my head to my feet
Strapped to a seat at 20,000 feet

Silverbolt's character is defined by his extremefear of heights and by his refusal to bow to it. He constantly struggles to project the image of a brave, determined soldier to hide his fear from others.Optimus Prime named him leader of the Aerialbots in the hopes that worrying about them would give him something else to focus on besides his own phobia. This has proven true and, not surprisingly, the mature, responsible Silverbolt makes an excellent commander.

He can combine with his fellow Aerialbots to formSuperion. In the future of some timelines, he will join forces with other veterans of theGreat War to formMagnaboss, the final Autobot combiner.

"Our mission is accomplished. Further risk would be foolish."

"How come they made you Aerialbot leader, Silverbolt? You've got no sense of adventure."

"Exactly."

"So long, cruel world!" Actual episode quote. Seriously.

Silverbolt was constructed out of a low-flying cargo transport vessel, which was modified to resemble an Earthly Concorde. He was later given life byVector Sigma, along with the otherAerialbots, then returned toEarth with the Autobots viaOmega Supreme. It was soon discovered that Silverbolt had a crippling weakness: an intense fear of heights, due to his low-altitude origins. Conversely, he was the only Aerialbot who wasn't a complete jerk. Because of this,Optimus Prime made him commander of the Aerialbots, reasoning that it would give him something to worry about other than his acrophobia. He proved worthy of this role when he persuaded his mutinous teammates to help the Autobots protect humanity, by showing them howSparkplug was able to disregard his fatigue at will due to his concern for Omega Supreme's well-being, something robots cannot do.

"Has anyone seen mylip balm?"

As the combined forces of the Autobots and Aerialbots sent the Decepticons into retreat, Silverbolt bravely went afterMegatron and destroyed theKey to Vector Sigma, despite his great fear of heights. As he fell, he was saved at the last moment bySlingshot, who was impressed by his courage. The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2

Silverbolt led his Aerialbots to the Middle East to discover why aircraft had been mysteriously disappearing from the area. As they flew over a canyon, Silverbolt detected a call from help down below, only to discover it was a Decepticon trick. The Decepticons retreated when Optimus Prime showed up, and Silverbolt pitched in to rescue Slingshot, who had been buried byBlast Off. Later on, Silverbolt andAir Raid fought the Decepticons and their drones. When the Combaticons merged intoBruticus, Silverbolt (after expressing disdain forFireflight's late arrival) ordered his team to becomeSuperion. After a bit of combiner-on-combiner action, the Aerialbots separated and ignited the oil that had spilled all around the Decepticons, scattering them.Aerial Assault

"In the future, you'll be a great Autobot leader."
"Sweet!"
"And I'm the key to your success."
"GET OUT."

When the Seekers captured half of the Earth's leaders, Silverbolt seemed to be the only one concerned, and he valiantly rescued the humans whenStarscream dropped them. Back at the base, Ratchet and Silverbolt couldn't believe the other Aerialbots' admiration of the Decepticons, but that was cut short when strange energy readings were detected onCybertron. Boarding Omega Supreme, Silverbolt went with the other Autobots to check it out, but when they arrived, the other Aerialbots were more interested in tagging along with Starscream. Rushing in to help his teammates, Silverbolt was placed with the others into theKronosphere, where they were sent to Cybertron's past, before the Great War. There, he met a worker named Orion Pax, and Silverbolt was again frustrated by his fascination with Decepticons. When Orion Pax was injured by Megatron, Silverbolt and his team brought him to Alpha Trion, and at Silverbolt's insistence, the damaged Orion was rebuilt into Optimus Prime. Following that, the Aerialbots destroyed the Decepticons' fuel, and Wheeljack managed to repair the Kronosphere and return them to their time. Upon their return, Silverbolt ordered the Aerialbots to combine into Superion and take down aguardian robot Megatron had sicced on the Autobots.War Dawn

The Aerialbots were tasked with applyingcorrostop to theStatue of Liberty, but Perceptor was captured by Stunticons, leaving it up to the Aerialbots to locate him. They followed the Stunticons'escape vehicle, but Dirge and Ramjet scared Silverbolt's squad off by using theirLightning Bug. When Megatron offered to let Perceptor free atFox Creek Canyon, Silverbolt was among the many Autobots to come with Prime to rescue their comrade. Later, Silverbolt commanded the formation of Superion, and in this combined form the Aerialbots defeated Menasor and destroyed the Lightning Bug.Cosmic Rust

After the death of Megatron and the retaking of Cybertron, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots became part of the Autobot Fleet. WhenUltra Magnus,Kup and Spike were kidnapped toQuintessa, the rescue party alerted the Aerialbots to swoop by for covering fire and pick-up. By 2006, Silverbolt was showing far more confidence as a leader, and effectively coordinated the entire rescue operation. Briefly, he evengrew so large that all the Autobots trapped on Quintessa's surface were able to board him. Whattaguy.Five Faces of Darkness, Part 2 When the Quintessons destroyed their own planet to get at the Autobots, the resulting blast wave destroyed the Aerialbots' ship, sending Silverbolt and the rest hurtling through space. They eventually impacted onGoo #8739B. That planetoid was so sticky, Silverbolt couldn't even blast free of its surface in jet mode. They were eventually rescued byWreck-Gar and theJunkions.Five Faces of Darkness, Part 3

In the episode "Dark Awakening", several jets in the Autobot Fleet resembling the Aerialbots' alt modes were destroyed by the Quintessons. Repeatedly. Since the Aerialbots unquestionably survived the attack, it would seem their character models were merely used to build up the size of the fleet, and the casualty figures.

"Why are you the leader, Silverbolt? I've got a nicer paint job."
"Yes, but... a Concorde is bigger."

As a leader, Silverbolt was something of a killjoy to his fellow Aerialbots, encouraging moderation and self-control over daredevil flying and adventuring. During a battle against the Quintessons, Air Raid was eager to chase after the Quintessons and give them what-for, but Silverbolt insisted they stick with the mission and secure the asteroid base the Quintessons had been operating from instead. When Air Raid gave him some backtalk that basically amounted to "Pussyyyyy!", Silverbolt shrugged it off and reminded his comrades that THIS was why Prime put him in charge.Forever Is a Long Time Coming

Once, Air Raid led the Decepticon duo ofScourge andCyclonus into an asteroid field where Silverbolt and his fellow Aerialbots were waiting to spring an ambush. The Aerialbots messed the Decepticons up pretty badly, especially after they transformed into Superion. Eventually, Silverbolt and the others chased the Decepticons through a strange warp in space. This proceeded to have no consequences foranyonewhatsoever.Fight or Flee

Silverbolt and the Aerialbots tried to stop the Decepticons' abduction ofOctane, and later showed up to stage an ambush forGalvatron.Starscream's Ghost

Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were spending a relaxing day watching home movies onTeletraan II when things suddenly get serious, as the Autobots' computer off-handedly informed themTrypticon was never destroyed in his last battle withMetroplex. Sure enough, Silverbolt and Skydive were later present at the former site of Fort Knox, investigating Trypticon's handiwork on behalf of theKing of Kings ofCarbombya. When they tracked Trypticon to his new staging grounds, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots launched fromBroadside, but the Decepticon presence in Carbombya was more than they had anticipated. The Aerialbots made a hasty retreat when confronted with overwhelming firepower, but soon returned with reinforcements and drove the Decepticons from Carbombya.Thief in the Night

During a battle in space, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots may or may not have been present. Superion, at least, was surely there on the planetEurythma... sometimes.Carnage in C-Minor Silverbolt wasdefinitely stationed at Autobot City, though, whenScourge and Starscream stole Metroplex's eyes. The massive Autobot was nearly driven mad with pain when the Decepticons set off a bomb in his brain, and Skydive, Silverbolt andPowerglide had to keep him contained so that his thrashing didn't destroy anything irreplaceable. Like Portland.Ghost in the Machine

No one tell him that space is really really high up.

AfterSky Lynx took some hostile fire over theplanet of Junk, Rodimus Prime dispatched Silverbolt and the Aerialbots to investigate. They were caught in a crossfire between the brain-addled Junkions and the Quintessons, who were responsible for messing with the Junkions' air waves, and their minds. Even after becoming Superion, the Aerialbots took heavy fire and had to be brought back toFirst Aid on Cybertron for repairs. The Big Broadcast of 2006

Normally, Silverbolt is the pinnacle of self-restraint and professionalism. One day, though, he congratulatedAir Raid on strategically getting himself set on fire byTrypticon, and then personally flew down the monster's throat, throwing out laser bolts and imaginative taunts all the way down his gullet. During the Decepticon invasion ofJapan, the Aerialbots fought againstAstrotrain when he tried to derail a bullet train full of passengers. The Burden Hardest to Bear Sometime thereafter, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were recruited by Rodimus Prime to rescue the body of Optimus Prime fromSwofford andMorgan. Unfortunately, this only meant they were among the first Autobots exposed to thehate plague. Despite the madness induced by the red dust, the Aerialbots were apparently still willing to form Superion. Superion ran amok, causing serious property damage, infectingDefensor, and taking several other Autobots out of action. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1 Silverbolt and the others were eventually cured of the Hate Plague along with the entire planet when Optimus Prime unleashed the power of theMatrix of Leadership. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2

When the Decepticons invaded Cybertron searching for thePlasma Energy Chamber, the Aerialbots tried to stop them. Unfortunately, they didn't reckon withSixshot. Silverbolt's team was taken down in a matter of seconds, with him being personally shot down by Cyclonus, wielding Sixshot in gun mode. The Rebirth, Part 1 As the battle on Cybertron neared its conclusion, Silverbolt was shot down AGAIN byBlast Off. TheCombaticons then took hispower pack to use as fuel for the giant rocket engine they were constructing for Galvatron. The Rebirth, Part 3

Scramble City
Voice actor:Tomomichi Nishimura (Japanese)

Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were dispatched from theScramble City project byUltra Magnus to aid Optimus Prime in battle with theSeekers andDevastator. Their aerial firepower frankly overwhelmed the marauding Decepticons, and sent them home with their transistors between their struts. On his second attempt, Megatron sent the Stunticons, who were considerably more successful in engaging the Autobots. Damaged in jet modes, Silverbolt the Aerialbots chose instead to merge and form Superion. As Superion, they possessed scramble combining abilities, but so did the Stunticons when they formed Menasor. The Aerialbots were in the midst of reconfiguring their limb formation when Fireflight, being...well, a daydreaming idiot, mixed up whether he was supposed to be the right leg or the left. His indecision gave Menasor time to shoot him down, andWildrider assumed the place of Superion's right leg instead, corrupting his programming. Silverbolt and the others were trapped as Superion, literally fighting themselves, until Fireflight retook his place as Superion's limb.Scramble City: Mobilization

Following a lengthy repair cycle, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were ready for action when Galvatron and the Decepticons laid siege to Cybertron one last time. The Great Transformer War

In 2010, Galvatron kidnapped DoctorDalton ofEran to utilize his skills and improve the Decepticons' combiner technology. Silverbolt and the Aerialbots joined the Protectobots in assaulting Trypticon, in hopes of rescuing the hostage scientist. Silverbolt and his team formed Superion for a first strike, but the Decepticon combiners countered with their deployment modes, launching the Stunticon andCombaticon troops with enough force to tear Superion apart. The Protectobots stood guard overHot Spot as he performed battlefield triage on the Aerialbots in his repair bay mode, bringing them back online. The Decepticons, up to their usual tricks, threatened to plunder Earth's resources. Silverbolt asked Optimus Prime to allow his Aerialbots to deal with the Stunticons, currently attacking a power plant. Optimus was hesitant, as the other Autobots pointed out that the Aerialbots were too young and inexperienced to go out into the field for such daunting a task. Silverbolt pleaded his case, stating that the Stunticons were the Aerialbots' bitter rivals. After briefly contemplating the situation, Optimus allowed Silverbolt and his team to deal with the threat. The two teams met, and quickly combined into their gestalt forms to do battle. Though Superion was initially crippled by theOmega Wave Cannon, a new weapon controlled by the Decepticons, Superion held his own until the Autobots dispatched enough reinforcements to send the Decepticons fleeing.Full Throttle Scramble Power!

THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!

The Aerialbots were then created whenBumblebee filmedDevastator's combining sequence. Using the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, Optimus Prime gave the Aerialbots life. While the Aerialbots were being tested, Prime ordered them to stop the Decepticon assault on theHoover Dam.

The fight went well, butDirge used his super-sonic ability to bring out a Transformer's deepest fear; it warped Silverbolt's fear of heights (ironic for an Aerialbot) and forced him to land. The Aerialbots prevailed in the fight, however, and as the Decepticons fled, Silverbolt combined them all to formSuperion, trying to stop a Decepticon drill from absorbing all of the Hoover Dam's electricity.

Superion's reflex was to strike out and killthe human who heldMegatron in his gun form, but Silverbolt mentally stepped in and prevented him from doing so. He forced the Aerialbots to disassemble. The human fired Megatron's gun at the drill, winning the day for the Autobots.Aerialbots over America!

"Wheeljack, did you unquestioningly kill the Aerialbots, as per my orders?"
"Yep—sure thing, Prime!"

Nonetheless, Silverbolt's mind was wiped along with his fellow Aerialbots shortly afterwards, due to Optimus Prime's dissatisfaction with the mission. Optimus then gave them life once more with the Creation Matrix, hoping their second activation would yield better results. Later, whenSkids was transporting the humanDonny Finkleberg on a scouting mission, they came under fire from theStunticons. Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were sent to do battle with the new enemy team. Both combiners fused, creatingMenasor and Superion. The fanatical robot-hatingJosie Beller, also known as Circuit Breaker, fired upon Superion during the clash, crippling him heavily and leaving Menasor the victor.Heavy Traffic! "This must be a flashback... I'm in monochrome!"

They would battle Menasor again at a Blackrock plant, and this time the fusion worked so well everyone found out the others' weaknesses and neuroses. Horrified at his fear of heights being found out, Silverbolt drove Superion into a vicious, brutal fury....Perchance to Dream

Following this, Silverbolt and the other Aerialbots would come underJetfire's command to investigate enemy activity in a small East Coast town. Little did the group suspect that Jetfire had been tasked with undermining them throughout the mission in order to test their psychological limits. Early on, Skydive and Air Raid teased Silverbolt over his displacement as team leader, unaware on how deep their words cut. Silverbolt became convinced that he was going to be stripped of his rank permanently.

Decepticon signatures were detected in short order, but any hope of forming an organized battle plan was dashed when Slingshot rushed a surprise attack. Silverbolt grumpily urged the others to join in, knowing full well that their teammate would find himself out of his depth if allowed to charge in alone. The Autobots were met with Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp siphoning electricity into energon cubes. The Decepticons' cache was detonated by a stray shot, and both Thundercracker and Skywarp managed to escape. Desperate to prove his worth, Silverbolt pushed himself to catch Starscream before Jetfire could. He got more than he bargained for, as Starscream shot Jetfire down, sending him into the nearby waters. Silverbolt was forced to call upon the other Aerialbots to combine into Superion, but the combiner proved as destructive and slow-witted as ever, and his target escaped. Despite the mission ending on a sour note, Jetfire gave the Aerialbots a positive review, having been unconscious during Superion's poor showing. The Return of the Transformers

After the death of Optimus Prime, Silverbolt was among several Autobots gathered to determine who would next lead their forces. The meeting was interrupted by theDinobotGrimlock, who demanded that command was handed to him. The other Autobots dismissed him at first, but when Grimlock proved himself a worthy leader againstTrypticon, they reevaluated their opinion of the Dinobot. After Trypticon was driven off, Silverbolt and the rest of the Autobots voted Grimlock to take command.King of the Hill!

As Grimlock took over the Autobots, Silverbolt and the other Aerialbots took an extended leave of absence from the war, since theDinobot commander focused Autobot resources on repairing their fallen comrades and prepping the Ark to become spaceworthy again. The Autobot craft launched into orbit in pursuit ofBlaster, who had been partaking in overtly mutinous behavior. Though the Autobots managed to capture Blaster'sspaceship, within it they only found aquartet of small human children and a stuffed bear. In order to draw out his real target, Grimlock put the humans on trial, a procession which Silverbolt attended. He was visibly displeased when Grimlock sentenced the kids to death for aiding Blaster, though thankfully this was all a ruse on Grimlock's end to draw Blaster into the open.Spacehikers!

Silverbolt disembarked with the rest of the Earth-bound Autobots from the Ark onto Earth'smoon, where he and the other Autobots witnessed a battle for leadership betweenGrimlock andBlaster. This was a moment of opportunity forRatbat's Decepticons, who attacked Silverbolt and the others on the moon's surface. Though the Decepticons struck a devastating first blow, Blaster and Grimlock managed to temporarily put aside their differences in order to lead their troops together. Though many Autobots were severely damaged, the Decepticons were successfully pushed into a retreat.Totaled!

Kept in inactive rest after his destruction at the hands of Starscream, Silverbolt was revived byGalvatron when the future Decepticon infiltrated theArk and attempted to reprogram several Autobots into working for him, using their darker impulses as a focus. Galvatron succeeded in reactivating Silverbolt and several others, but failed to command their loyalty, and they turned his ownmind bug technology against him....Perchance to Dream When Optimus Prime took the Ark out into space shortly thereafter, leavingGrimlock in charge of Autobot activity on Earth, Silverbolt joined the new Earthforce in opposing the remaining Decepticon factions, led by Megatron andShockwave.Break-Away! Although Grimlock had promised Optimus Prime that he would show restraint on Earth, Silverbolt was present at the first meeting of the Earthforce where their leaderliterally threw therule book out of the window.Once upon a Time...

Aerialbots the house that wheeljack built.jpg

Perhaps at Silverbolt's request, the other Aerialbots were also revived in short order, and joined Earthforce as well. When Wheeljack's new defense grid for the Earthbase went awry, Silverbolt assembled the Aerialbots to fly air support for Prowl as he attempted to re-enter the base and shut down the system from the inside. The House that Wheeljack Built!

Sometime later, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were operating as Superion whenBombshell zapped them with acerebro-shell, causing the super-robot to rampage through the countryside. A human namedIrwin Spoon eventually managed to climb inside and remove the shell from Superion's cerebral circuitry.Inside Story!

Optimus selected six of his finest warriors, Silverbolt among them, to travel to theAcid Wastes and investigate the ruins of theUnderbase located there. WithUnicron approaching their homeworld, Optimus hoped to use the Underbase's connection to Cybertron's core as a substitute for theCreation Matrix in battling the evil planet. Though Silverbolt was eager to do his part,Jazz,Prowl,Sunstreaker,Inferno, andWheeljack made excuses not to go. Frustrated over this apparent show of cowardice, Optimus sent them all along despite their objections. As they traveled throughStanix, Silverbolt found himself needing to prod along his hesitant companions. However, all attempts to move them forward failed once they reachedYuss. Silverbolt puzzled out that the others had lived through a traumatic experience in the town, but was accosted by a swarm of mutated mechs before he could inquire the subject. The leader of the mutants revealed himself to beMegadeath, the Decepticon responsible for the others' past trauma. Silverbolt was knocked out and the group was taken captive.

Magnificent Six the end.jpg

When he awoke, Silverbolt found that the others' disposition had yet to improve. In an attempt to shock them out of their self-pity and despair, he mocked his compatriots, calling them "the Autobots' resident losers." This actually worked, and the others told him how, early in the war, Megadeath had tortured and humiliated them to their breaking point. When they had finally managed to escape, they crippled Megadeath and left him to die. Regrettably, they failed to disarm the Neutronic bombs that went on to transform the area into the Acid Wastes and mutate its inhabitants. Silverbolt convinced his comrades that they were stronger than they thought, and the group's confidence slowly returned.

While Silverbolt freed the mutant mechs from Megadeath's psychological control and guided them out of the area, Prowl and the others sought to excise their demons by confronting their torturer. After his task was done, Silverbolt returned to witness his teammates' battle, fearing they would break the Autobot code if left unsupervised. The Autobots stopped short of delivering a killing blow, but Megadeath committed suicide instead of allowing himself to face justice for his war crimes. Having found closure, the Autobots continued on with their mission, and reached the former site of the Underbase with their new wards in tow.The Magnificent Six!

Deciding that there was no more room for rogue heroics among the Autobot ranks after he had been given command of Cybertron,Prowl traveled toAzure alongside Silverbolt andIronhide to reel Grimlock back into the Autobot forces. The trio tracked down Slag and Sludge and arranged through them a meeting with their leader. This meeting wound up being cut short by a distress call from Earth, and Grimlock agreed to accompany the Autobots aboard theGraviton to respond to it.Grimlock's profile in Club magazine #50

Once Grimlock had returned fromNebulos with technology developed by the resurrectedScorponok, new bodies were constructed for Silverbolt, Blaster, Inferno and Huffer and they were kept in the maxi-malady (secure) unit known as "The Garage" for testing, though Silverbolt and the others railed against this inactivity. Soon enough, Blaster hacked intoSoundwave's communications grid, alerting the Neo-Decepticon commander to the recuperating Autobots' interference and theMayhem Attack Squad were dispatched to eliminate them. They defended themselves admirably, though Silverbolt was wounded byCarnivac's napalm during the battle, only being saved by Inferno's quick reactions. Having proved themselves, they rejoined the Autobots proper.Destiny, Part Two

Reunited with the rest of the Aerialbots, Silverbolt was sent on a mission to investigate a Neo-Decepticon threat butProwl called them back before they encountered any resistance.Destiny, Part Three Soon afterwards,Bludgeon'sWarworld attacked Cybertron and Silverbolt, along with pretty much every other flying Autobot, was deployed in response.Destiny, Part Four This massed attack proved to be a feint to distract theWarworld from theWreckers, who successfully boarded and neutralised the Decepticon mothership.Destiny, Part Five Once Rodimus Prime had sealed off their universe from the multiverse to defeat the Matrix entity, all surviving Cybertronians were rendered mortal, presumably including Silverbolt, who eventually died of old age.The War to End All Wars, Part 5

The Special Teams

Silverbolt was created on Cybertron, where Vector Sigma first ignited the spark of life within him. Silverbolt, and the rest of the Aerialbots were nearly convinced to join the Decepticons upon their initial alliance with the Autobots. This was due to a fault in the Aerialbots’ programming, present due to a sudden drop in the mega-computer when they were being created. Silverbolt was capable of stripping electrons from air particles as he flew, and then discharging the build of energy as a weapon. The Aerialbots were sent over by Optimus to help the Protectobots defend thePullen Power Plant from the Decepticons. Happening upon Bruticus and Menasor teaming-up to take on Defensor, the Aerialbots combined into Superion to even the odds. Bruticus fell early in the battle, prompting the Aerialbots to separate and give chase to Starscream while Defensor took over the fight with Menasor. The Special Teams

When an Autobot salvage expedition was unexpectedly ambushed by Decepticons,Ultra Magnus became concerned that the Cons had developed a new form of surveillance. Silverbolt suggested his men perform a full scan of the area for any spy installation. Forming Superion, they flew as high as possible and confirmed thatsomething was out there in the upper atmosphere.Galvatron's Air Attack

Silverbolt and his fellow Aerialbots became one of the first Autobot "Special Teams" several million years ago, adopting the process used to createDevastator in order to become Superion. The unchecked destructive power of these super-robots was eventually recognized by the Autobot and Decepticon factions, however. By the time of theDark Ages, theCrisis Intervention Accord had been ratified, strictly forbidding Special Teams from operating together on any given faction, in order to prevent these titans from tearing the planet apart.War Within: The Dark Ages

Although they were apparently not part of the Ark's original crew, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots somehow arrived on Earth and were part of Optimus Prime's unit in the 1980s. The war on the human homeworld raged until 1998 when the Decepticons were finally defeated, and in the following year, theArk II was constructed to take the Transformers home. However, the ship was sabotaged by the rogue engineer-turned arms dealer Adam Rook, known asLazarus, and GeneralRobert Hallo, who planned on reprogramming the Transformers into the service of the United States military. The Aerialbots were some of the few Transformers who were not recovered by Lazarus for his reprogramming venture, now aimed at hiring out the Transformers to the highest bidder. Instead, they lay immobile in the Arctic waters until reactivated as Superion in 2002 by Optimus Prime, using the power of theMatrix of Leadership.Prime Directive #2

Silverbolt was one of the Autobots who took part in a battle forJunkion under the command ofProwl. The skirmish went nowhere and both sides were forced to abandon the world when their war tore it asunder.A Lonely Pillar on the Plain

In the modern era, with Optimus Prime leading the Autobots in the field, Silverbolt became Operation Commander on theAutobot Orbital Command Hub;Perceptor was one of his senior officers. He was involved in trying to find the attempted assassin ofBlaster, deducing the assailant had to be an Autobot. To catch the would-be killer, Silverbolt and Blaster concocted a plan where the Autobot morale-booster set himself as bait. Silverbolt and his men waited as backup while Blaster dealt with the assassin (who turned out to be a mind-controlledBeachcomber), but he nearly stormed into the room when he saw that "the Voice" was not armed with a weapon.Spotlight: Blaster

Most of the Autobots eventually left Earth, returning to Cybertron to fightGalvatron's army. When Galvatron began to fire at the planet's surface usingKimia Facility's particle cannon, Silverbolt led all available flying Autobots in an attack on the facility. Though he didn't know what Galvatron was targeting, he knew the barrage had to be stopped, and volunteered to destroy Kimia by tossing explosives into its barrel. He didn't need to, as it was soon blown up by Autobots on the inside.Numbers

After the Chaos war, Silverbolt's fellow AerialbotBarrel Roll died in an explosion and Silverbolt, unable to trust any Decepticons after four million years of war, blamed the survivor,Dirge and would've killed the Decepticon if not for Wheeljack spoiling his aim. Shortly after the incident, Bumblebee agreed to acceptStarscream into the government, which made Silverbolt even more furious. He attacked Bumblebee andProwl before announcing that he and his Aerialbots were leaving Bumblebee's government.Stick Together

Shortly after leaving Iacon behind and traveling into the untamed wilderness Cybertron had become, the Aerialbots were the first to fall victim toMegatron's experiments with acombiner energy that influenced their minds and made them turn on each other. Before the Dawn Silverbolt's comrades teamed up to attack him, though he himself remained immune for a time, something he believed to be a side effect of him never truly feeling like part of the team. He avoided their attacks for three days before he too began to feel the effects and made a recording of his experiences as a warning to whoever came next.Night and the CityIronhide, sent out to find the lost Aerialbots, first discovered a broken wing belonging to their Silverbolt,Dinobot Hunt but by the time he tracked the warning message to its source, he found the Aerialbot leader had succumbed to the influence and, to cope, merged with his team into a single being:Superion.Night and the City

Leading the motley group of Autobots back to Iacon, Superion took part in the ensuing battle against Megatron's resurgent Decepticons, but fell in battle against a Prowl-controlled Devastator. The surviving Aerialbots, still combined, were left comatose and reliant on life support,Three Monologues and remained that way for some time untilStarscream, hoping to recruit a combiner of his own, got his hands on theEnigma of Combination. Thanks to the efforts ofWheeljack, the team was brought back online, with two new members to replace the fallen Slingshot.First Contact

As part of Starscream's larger political games, Silverbolt and the new Aerialbots were deployed to the planetCaminus to stop Menasor, who Starscream had deliberately unleashed on the planet to cause chaos. Silverbolt was less than enthusiastic about having to combine again, although Superion was able to dispatch the Stunticon combiner. The team was easily able to dispatch the Stunticons,The Sum and Its Parts and remained on Caminus to use their combined strength to help with the subsequent cleanup. The Possible Light Following another clash with Prowl's Devastator form, Superion was bested and collapsed into his components. Starscream thought otherwise and used the Enigma to forcibly reintegrate them back together.Mistakes and Mayhem

As theCouncil of Worlds took shape, Optimus Prime expressed concern that Superion hadn't separated back into his original components. Prowl, having experienced the addictive power of combination firsthand, remarked that Superionwas the new default form for the Aerialbots. You, Me, and the Universe Though the Aerialbots were evidently happiest as Superion, they disassembled themselves from time to time after Superion joined Prime's peacekeeping forces on Earth. In one such instance, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots performed a horticultural "bombing run" in the Middle East, releasing fast-growing plants to help feed the local humans. Silverbolt and the Aerialbots then fled the air resistance they faced, reluctantly holding to Prime's orders to not engage any human counter-strikes.Edge of the Earth

As Optimus and Soundwave moved to take outGalvatron's rogue Decepticon cabal, Superion andVictorion provided support for the alliance. They discovered, however, that the Decepticon conqueror had managed to co-opt the source code of the Enigma, granting him the power to merge and separate Cybertronians at will. Able to resist its deleterious effects, Superion managed to nullify Galvatron's weapon by copying a fraction of the interconnected code into his neocortex and splitting himself apart. Unable to re-combine for fear of restoring the power of Galvatron's enigma, Silverbolt announced that Superion was "dead."As Above...So Below He and the other triumphant Autobots were subsequently evacuated from the battle.White Light

2006 IDWBeast Wars continuity

As the Great War drew to a close, Silverbolt, Prowl, and Ironhide received news that, in a final and terrible confrontation, both Optimus Prime and Galvatron had perished. These three, and the rest of the Autobot high council, divided leadership duties over the Autobots between themselves, and took on the post of "Primal Council" in the process. Prime's death hit Silverbolt especially hard, and he proposed to the other council-members that they take the time to recover from this blow to their morale. He was overruled by Prowl, who proposed they extend an olive branch to the remaining Decepticon troops in an effort to end the war without further bloodshed. The rest of the council agreed to try out Prowl's plan, much to the frustration of thelast surviving member of "Unit-3." Despite this upstart's aggressive protests, anoperative from Unit-2 was sent out to approach the remaining generals in the Decepticon army amicably. But other troubles loomed ahead, including a report from the latePerceptor that transwarp reactions had been detected en-masse recently.

Maximalimperium.jpg

One general in the enemy force refused the Autobots' call for peace. Having renamed himself "Megatron," he ledPredaking, among others, on a rampage. This forced SIlverbolt and the other members of the council to intervene personally. Silverbolt joined forces with Prowl, Ironhide, Unit-3, and Tigatron to form the gestaltMagnaboss, and pushed back as transwarp energy rained down on Cybertron, turning all those it struck into a fluctuating quantum state. Thankfully, the higher-ups in the Decepticon hierarchy then arrived on the battlefield, and elected to surrender to the Autobots. Thereafter, the Pax Cybertronia was signed, ushering an era of peace on Cybertron.Dawn of the Predacus

Though Silverbolt's aerial insecurities became mostly a thing of the past, he still muttered a short prayer or mantra every time he took flight. Though taking to the air might bring about some queasiness in him still, Silverbolt believed that courage was not the absence of fear, but the ability to overcome it.Beast Wars Sourcebook

Some time into the Pax Cybertronia, Silverbolt became a member of the Maximal counterpart to theTripredacus Council, presiding over theMaximal Imperium alongside former Autobot teammatesIronhide andProwl. So afraid of heights he made himself a makeshift ground-based alternate mode.
(Chest plate not pictured)
  • Hasbro Team ID number:A5
  • Takara ID number:C-50
  • Accessories: "Electrostatic Discharger Rifle", "Blast Shield" chest plate, Superion's head, 2 fists (left & right), 2 foot stands (left & right), ramp and "Blast Deflector" crotch-guard
  • Known designers:Kōjin Ōno (TakaraTomy)
Released in the third year of theThe Transformers toyline in the US (second in most of Europe and Japan), Silverbolt transforms into a Concorde SST jet liner. He also has a third "launching ramp" mode that serves as a base/platform for smaller toys. He was designed with a spring-loaded launching mechanism in this mode, but theHasbro releases of this toy removed the spring entirely, leaving the launcher lever to just kinda slide around pointlessly when the "Blast Shield" chest plate isn't attached. TheTakara release of the figure features this missing spring-loaded action, however.
As a "Scramble City"-style toy, he can also form the torso of a super robot, completely interchangeable with the smaller compatible limb-bots in the series. His nominal position is asSuperion's torso; arguably, any combination of limbs issome iteration of Superion.
He was originally designed for the abortedDiaclone lineJizai Gattai (自在合体 "Limitless Combination"), and then finalized and released inTransformers when it proved the stronger seller.
Completely undocumented from the instructions: the "Blast Shield" chest plate piece isalso intended for Silverbolt's robot mode, not just Superion's combined mode, as evidenced by the molded crotch-guard, the designated sticker details that are covered up by Superion's own separate crotch-guard piece in combined mode, and hischaracter model andpackage art. This—combined with the fact that all of the other combiner torso-bots don't use their respective combiner chest plate pieces as parts of their individual robot modes—has led many to believe that Silverbolt's chest/torso is just a flat, detailless ramp. In another undocumented feature, Silverbolt's "Electrostatic Discharger Rifle" can also attach to a peg hole on the underside of the chest plate piece, presumably to create a drone of some kind to function with his ramp mode, much likeMotormaster's "Roller car". As the original four "Scramble City" combiner teams were intended for theDiaclone toyline, it is entirely possible this was a left over feature fromprototypes based directly onDiaclone concepts, in a similar vein toPowered Convoy's/Ultra Magnus's chest-plate-and-head vehicle intended for the pilot figures of theDiaclone toyline.
A particular weakness of Silverbolt's design is the way both his legs are connected to his hips by a long pin going through severalvery small (and weak) plastic hinges that are put under a lot of stress, as the immediate joint underneath this assembly is a swivel used during transformation.
In Japan, the entire "Airbot" team were later offered (as individual purchases) as mail-order items in US packaging duringReturn of Convoy in 1991. Silverbolt cost 2000 yen and threeRobot Points, and didnot include the spring in the base mode launching mechanism, unlike the original Japanese release (possibly because it may have been part of the production run of the HasbroClassics line, see below).

  • Superion (Gift set, 1986)
  • Takara ID number:C-55
Silverbolt was also available with the other Aerialbots as part of a Superion giftset released in many markets. All of the toys in the set are identical to their individual releases for the same markets (i.e., the Takara version of Silverbolt included the functional launcher).

  • Silverbolt (Classic,1990)
  • Accessories: "Electrostatic Discharger Rifle", "Blast Shield" chest plate, Superion's head, 2 fists (left & right), 2 foot stands (left & right), ramp and "Blast Deflector" waist plate
Silverbolt was reissued as part of the European/AustralianClassics toyline in 1990, with his base-mode launcher feature still removed.

Generation 2

  • Silverbolt (Aerialbot, 1994)
  • Team ID number:A5
  • Accessories: 2 missile launchers, 2 missiles, chest plate, Superion head, Superion hip plate, left & right fists, left & right feet, ramp
Released in the second year of the USGeneration 2 toyline (andonly in the US line), Silverbolt's toy wasredecoed in silver(!), blue and red-orange. His wings wereretooled to hold a new pair of spring-loaded missile launchers (reused from theGeneration 2 versions ofStarscream andRamjet).
Much like the original releases of the toy, the instructions neglect to show the chest plate being used for his individual robot mode. This version also lacks the spring in the launching mechanism.

Beast Wars

House the people living on the street. Shoe the children with no shoes on their feet.
  • Magnaboss (Ultra, 1997)
The eagle Silverbolt toy represents both the original Autobot and alatter-day Maximal.
Released in the second year of the HasbroBeast Wars toyline, Silverbolt transforms from an eagle into a robot, with portions of his wings turning into a pair ofswords. Each wing also contains a spring-loaded missile launcher. He is able to combine with his pack-in companionsIronhide andProwl, forming part of the torso and helmet to the giant robotMagnaboss.
Silverbolt most certainly suffers from the dreadedGold Plastic Syndrome. Thankfully he is not one of the more common cases and most Silverbolts have survived many years of playwear. Unlike, say,Slingshot.
This mold was also used to makeBeast Wars IISkywarp.
The Magnaboss toy included no information about its three components beyond their names. The toy was established in2007 byIDW to represent the Generation 1 character Silverbolt a decade after its release. By contrast in2016,Beast Wars: Uprising characterized this toy as an independent Maximal,Silver Bolt. In2021, theEarth Wars mobile game would follow suit in depicting eagle Silverbolt as a separate individual from jetliner Silverbolt.

Will the newsize class solve his long-runningscale problems? Only time will tell...
  • Silverbolt (Ultra Class, 2008)
  • Series: Classic Series
  • Accessories: "Electron Bolt Rifle", "Electron Bolt"
  • Known designers:Bill Rawley (Hasbro),Takashi Kunihiro (TakaraTomy)
Part of the second wave of2008Universe Ultra-class toys, Silverbolt transforms into a stylized XB-70 Bomber.[1] As an Ultra Class toy, he comes with various light and soundgimmicks (exactly the same ones as UniversePowerglide), including a machine gun type sound when one presses the big red button on the fuselage, and different classic transformation sound effects depending on whether he is being transformed from vehicle mode to robot mode or vice versa. His spring-loaded missile-launching blaster features a B-2 Stealth bomber as a decorative shape. HisBOLT-25 markings reference both his name and the twenty-fifth (silver) anniversary of the Transformers brand.
The JapaneseTakaraTomy version of Silverbolt was released in AmericanUniverse packaging as a "USA Edition" toy. He is redecoed to more closely resemble his appearance in the originalThe Transformers cartoon, with most of his grey plastic parts now cast in a bright shade of off-white. The red paint applications on his chest are now a match for his red plastic parts, resulting in a unified look as opposed to the two-tone chest of theUniverse version.
This mold was also used to makeDarkwind andSkyfall, and was the basis of the non-toyShattered Glass version ofThunderwing.

  • Superion (Multi-pack, 2008)
  • Series: G1 Series
Available only as a component ofUniverseSuperion, this version of Silverbolt is a white and black redeco ofEnergonStorm Jet, transforming into a futuristic supersonic jet similar to an SR-71 Blackbird orSkyquake. As a toy derived from theEnergon-series "PowerlinxCombiner"s, he can attach anyEnergon combiner limbs to the Powerlinx ports located on his arms and legs, though nominally he combines with his fellow Aerialbots to become Superion.
Like the Storm Jet version of the sculpt, Silverbolt features several instances ofmisassembly: The more obvious one affects his inside legs, which are swapped so that the knee joint faces the wrong way. Although an easy quick swap (involving the unscrewing of exactly eight screws) fixes this, at least a few specimens reportedly had one leg assembled correctly, and the other one incorrectly, making repair impossible.
Furthermore, his shoulders are also misassembled, since there is a sculpted chevron...in his armpit. A fix for this requires removing metal pins, which is at least easier than on the original Storm Jet version of the sculpt, since Silverbolt's pins have the ridged section on one end, rather than in the center. Nonetheless, the sculpted chevrons are anextremely minor detail and attempting to remove the pins needed to correctly reposition them may not be worth the risk of damaging/breaking the figure.
The Superion five-pack, despite being initially intended as aUniverseTargetexclusive, was only released inUniverse packaging in some non-American markets such as Australia and Singapore. Instead, American Target stores (and Zellers stores in Canada) received an unchanged version of the toy inRevenge of the Fallen packaging, still namedSuperion, with all the individual components, includingSilverbolt, retaining their names as well.

  • Set number:A2226
  • Pieces: 75
  • Accessories: Bazooka
  • Known designers:Ed Masiello (Hasbro)
Kre-O Silverbolt is aMicro-ChangerKreon, a small buildable figure that can be re-built into a jet-like configuration. His chest deco omits the original toy's add-on chestplate, womp womp.
He can also contribute his parts to form the super robotSuperion; his torso goes into the super robot torso, and his legs form the robot's right "hand".
He was only available as part of a "complete" Superion set in the first wave of Micro-Changer Combiner sets, packed in withAir Raid,Firestrike (AKA Fireflight), andSkydive. (Slingshot, aka "Quickslinger" inKre-O, was sold separately as a single-pack Micro-Changer; you can figure out how to add his parts into the mix if you're feeling up to it.)

  • Combiner Robot Mega Pack (2016)
  • Set number:???
  • Pieces: 245
Three years later, the Micro-Changer Combiners Superion,Bruticus andMenasor were re-released as a large "Mega Pack" sold exclusively through Dollar General stores for a mere $12, a real steal considering the originals were $10 each.
All of the Kreons in the set now use the minorretooling done to Kreon arms in 2014, making the rounded-off forearm cuffs a sharper cylinder that better serves as a stud to attach pieces to. Deco-wise,most of the toys were unchanged from their individual releases; Silverbolt remains the same as his prior release.

Bot Shots Silverbolt is a redeco of theJetfire mold. As such, he turns into a super-deformed jet with a spring-loaded transformation back into robot mode. His chest has a three-sided spinner, showing attack types and scores to be used in a rock-paper-scissors style game.
He was only available in a five-pack withQuickslinger,Skydive,Autobot Firestrike, andAir Raid.

If you tell him he's flying he'll fall to pieces.
  • Silverbolt (Scout, 2013)
Part of the third wave ofConstruct-Bots Scouts, Silverbolt is a buildable robo-skeleton that can be augmented with armor and vehicle parts that enable him to transform into a Cybertronian jet. All of his parts are cross-compatible with otherConstruct-Bots kits, allowing for someinteresting builds.
All of his parts are fromConstruct-BotsShockwave, minus his head, which is a retool ofConstruct-BotsWheeljack's (which has a friendly grin molded in between his battle mask segments). Unlike Shockwave, he does not feature any cannon parts but instead comes with an opaque blue recolor of the sword included with UltimateOptimus Prime.

Combiner Wars

(thumbnail)
...nope, obviously not.
  • Silverbolt (Voyager Class,2015)
Released in the first wave ofCombiner Wars Voyager Class toys,Generations Silverbolt transforms from a jet resembling a modifiedConcorde to a robot resembling his original form. He includes a larger-scale version of the original toy's rifle, which can be held in Silverbolt's or Superion's hands, or mounted to the sides of Silverbolt's forearm or underneath his nosecone in jet mode. The winged rear section of the rifle can be detached and used by Silverbolt as a shield, which can also be separately either held in Silverbolt's hand or mounted to the side of his forearm.
He can also form the torso to the super robotSuperion, combined with the Deluxe ClassAlpha Bravo (orQuickslinger),Skydive,Firefly, andAir Raid as the limbs. Of course, he's also cross-compatible with any Deluxe limb-style bot mold fromCombiner Wars orPower of the Primes. Silverbolt also has an official confifuration as form the torso ofCombiner WarsMagnaboss; a sticker sheet was sold atBotCon 2016 to enhance Silverbolt's resemblance to the originalBeast Wars figure.
Silverbolt includes a collector card featuring art from the "Nemesis Rising" episode ofTransformers Legends.
Due to the way the head of Superion flips out, as well as the thinness of the plastic making up that joint, it is easy to push the wrong area when folding the head back into the body. This may cause stress lines and fractures if not properly addressed, and in the worst-case scenario Superion's head can simply snap off. On the bright side, it's still possible to secure Superion's head inside Silverbolt's torso, and the combined mode's chest clamps can still hold the head in place for the combined mode.
Oddly, the hand-paintedprototype on display atSan Diego Comic-Con 2014 featured some coloring and detailing differences with the final product that are unique to that one sample. Even the hand painted prototype used for earlystock photos is closer to the final figure. Notably, Silverbolt's shoulders (which become Superion's hips) were paintedred, with the trapezoid sections in the center painted silver.
As a part of the first and second wave promotion in Hasbro's Asian markets, a free sticker sheet for theAerialbots andStunticons was given out when purchasing any four Deluxe Class toys from those waves. As such, Silverbolt was given Generation 1 toy-esque stickers for the owner to apply if they wanted.[2]
This mold was retooled intoCombiner WarsCyclonus andScattershot, andBotCon 2016General Sea Clamp. Despite sharing the same toy designer and transformation scheme,Power of the PrimesHun-Gurrr isnot a retool ofCombiner Wars Silverbolt.

My head is fine in the clouds. It's just the combiner head you need to worry about!
  • Superion (Collection Pack, 2016)
  • Accessories: 2-part rifle/shield
Combiner Wars Silverbolt was given aGeneration 2-themed redeco... but no extra missile launchers, booooo. Most copies of this Silverbolt did not use the retooled and improved combiner head's joint, so care must be taken while transforming him into torso mode. At least one copy with the retooled and improved combiner head's joint does exist.
The Superion "Collection Pack" was (at least in theory) a "shared exclusive" between various online retailers (such asHasbro Toy Shop,Amazon,BigBadToyStore, andEntertainment Earth) and the online storefronts of major "big box" retailers (such asToys"R"Us,Walmart,Target, andKmart). It was still available at general retail in Hasbro's Asian markets, though.

Unite Warriors

TF-Unite-Warriors-UW01-Silverbolt.jpg
Takara'sUnite Warriors Silverbolt is a redeco of hisCombiner Wars toy, with a more cartoon-accurate deco, which includes replacing the orange colors of the Hasbro release with a more golden yellow color. Strangely, this does not include replacing the cream-white color of theCombiner Wars release with the cartoon's grayish-white color. Due to the abundance of paint used in the deco, the Takara release features much tighter joints, which in some cases can prove inhibitive for articulation.
He was only available as part of the fullSuperion box set alongside similarly-cartoon-deco'd versions ofAir Rider,Firebolt,Skydive, andSling, the first set released in the line. The set was reissued without changes four years later.
As with the Hasbro releases, this Silverbolt does not use the retooled and improved joint for the Combiner head. Unfortunately, the 2019 re-release did not fix this issue.

Titans Return

You can juuuuuust make them out here.
  • Blunderbuss & Broadside (Voyager, 2017)
Titans ReturnBroadside comes with tiny unpainted Aerialbot jetslug figures (specifically in the alternate modes of theirCombiner Wars figures) molded on a white sprue. Once cut off this sprue, the jets can be attached to his carrier and robot mode via the various teeny posts nominally used to secureTitan Master figures (meaning you can attach them toany figures with said pegs).
This mold sprue was also included in Broadside's redeco/retoolTidal Wave, now cast in black plastic; what/who they represent was never officially established.

Age of the Primes

Definitely not aCombiner Wars retool.
  • Aerialbot Silverbolt (Commander Class,2025)
  • 3 of 5:Superion
  • TakaraTomy name:Silverbolt (シルバーボルト)
  • TakaraTomy ID number:AOTP-01
  • TakaraTomy release date:2025June 28
  • Accessories: rifle, booster/Superion frame
  • Known designers:Mark Maher (Hasbro),Shogo Hasui (TakaraTomy)[3]
Revealed atCybertron Con 2024,Age of the Primes Silverbolt is a roughly Voyager-sized robot who turns into an unlicensed approximation of a Concorde in 44 steps. In his jet mode, his nosecone has the ability to be angled downwards to better resemble real-world plane and homage his transformation sequence in the original cartoon. The cockpit can also seat aTitan Master, though sadly it cannot be closed with one inside. He features deployable landing gear, with the rear landing gear being built-in to his hip armor.
Along with his own weapon, Silverbolt includes a collection of parts that can be assembled into a base mode or a booster for the jet mode. More importantly, however, it serves as a frame to build Superion. When he is in robot mode, he can use the parts as a shielded turret. Much likeLegacyMotormaster before him, Silverbolt himself only forms the core chunk of the chest, with the additional frame pieces creating a skeletal Superion capable of standing on his own, as advertised on his packaging. The four concurrently-released Deluxe Aerialbots can be attached to fill out the combiner. Unlike theLegacyStunticons, the Deluxe figures that form Superion's arms are capable of being attached to the left or right arm.[4] The leg bots, however, do not have the same split-in-half functionality as Slingshot and Fireflight, meaning they can’t properly Scramble City. Silverbolt and Motormaster’s frame pieces are swappable, though the bots that attach to them are incompatible with the other combiner’s parts. Interestingly, Silverbolt’s arm frame piecesare compatible with the concurrently-releasedVortex.
When transforming Silverbolt to his robot mode, care must be taken with Superion’s horns; when Silverbolt’s chest folds into place, Superion’s head must be positioned very precisely so the horns can slit into their dedicated recesses on the inside of the chestplate. Thankfully, the horns are made out of a softer plastic so they likely won’t snap, but be careful anyway to avoid bending. They also detach easily, on pegs that are slightly larger than 3 mm.
The sides of Silverbolt's abdomen are not painted the same cartoon-accurate color as his thighs because they are made ofunpaintable plastic.

Transformers Gum

"Gumbiner Wars"? Is that anything?
Essentially a downsized version of the original Silverbolt toy, theTransformers Gum kit is sculpted from black, red and grey plastic, features stickers rather than paint applications for details, and came with a stick of gum.

Collegeville Costumes

  • Silverbolt (1986)
Silverbolt was an odd choice for the second series ofCollegeville CostumesHalloween costumes, keeping with most of the companies costme character choices. The costume was a two-piece set consisted of a sculpted thin plastic mask held over the wearer's face with elastic, and a smock with a picture of Superion'spackage art and his name on it. A fairly common packaging error with this costume seems to have been the Silverbolt mask being swapped for aSuperion's.
  • Superion (1986)

Collegeville also immortalized Superion in their line ofTransformersFace-Lift masks. Made from flat styrofoam, the mask featured a hinge that allowed the wearer to lift it up and down, transforming from kid to robot in the blink of an eye!

"Silverbolt, Aerialbot Leader" was released as part of theTransformers Trading Card Game Wave 2: Rise of the Combiners. Like all other members ofcombiner teams released in the set, "Silverbolt, Aerialbot Leader" is a folding card, with the Bot and Alt modes being depicted when the card is folded in half, and a holofoil portion of the the combined mode depicted when unfolded. The reverse of "Silverbolt, Aerialbot Leader" depictsSuperion's head and torso, which (as usual) is formed by Silverbolt in the artwork.
The artwork for Bot Mode is reused from theCombiner Wars Silverbolt toys' packaging art, and is based on said figure.
"Silverbolt, Aerialbot Leader" can be used to form "Superion, Sky Protector" with the use of the Action cardAerialbot Enigma while he and the other Wave 2 Aerialbots are in Bot mode on the battlefield or KO area.

Notes

(thumbnail)
Sometimes Silverbolt just wants to naked it up.
(thumbnail)
This is the most hardcore Silverbolt has ever been.
  • Silverbolt'scharacter model andpackage art is based on the toy with what is often misunderstood to be Superion's chest plate attached. Unlike most of the other Generation 1 combiners, the chest plate piece wasalso intended to be a part of Silverbolt'srobot mode and actually features a molded crotch-guard on it, complete with designated sticker details—all of which get covered up with a completely separate crotch-guard piece for Superion. Despite this, the toy's instructions and the back-of-the-box art presents Silverbolt with his flat, detailless ramp torso. Silverbolt'sDreamwave profile art also depicts him without the chest plate, despite the comics themselves featuring it, likely due to the artist being under the mistaken impression that the chest plate wasn't intended for him.
  • Due to the size of his original toy's alternate mode, in that form he should be one of the biggest Transformers around (approximately 164 feet, 5 inches tall!). This means he's one of the mostout-of-scale Generation 1 characters, both as a toy and in all of his depictions in fiction.
  • Beast Wars Sourcebook depicts Silverbolt with the eagle head for his robot mode head.
  • A proposedFun PublicationsBotConexclusive idea was a redeco ofUniverse Silverbolt intoSkyquake/Scrash andKing Atlas.[5]
