Optimus Prime (G1)/Generations toys

From Transformers Wiki

It's great to be back...again!

With the evergrowingGeneration 1 continuity family,Optimus Prime continues to receive more toys—the largest number of toys in fact—for any singleTransformers character! The more Generation 1 Optimus Prime toys that are made, the harder it is for us here at TFWiki.net to keep documenting them all in a single article without it resulting inyour internet browser freezing!

For the sake of finding an easy and definitive split from the main toy article, we have opted to make this page strictly for the variousGenerations-branded toylines, as this appears to be the brandHasbro will likely continue adding Generation 1 characters to for the foreseeable future.

You know you can always count on Optimus Prime being there when the next year'sGenerations line comes around!

  • Ultimate Gift Set (2012)
    • Accessories: Sword
Generations "Combat Hero Optimus Prime" is a metallic-blue, gunmetal, and red redeco ofUnitedLaser Optimus Prime, having the retooled tab, and being based on the canceledGeneration 2Combat Hero Optimus Prime figure, sporting a red mouthplate inspired by the official catalog image for the unreleased toy (packaged samples had featured a traditionally colored gray mouthplate). He comes packed with a (vaguely)Generation 2-styled Deluxe ClassAutobot Jazz, as well as unchanged releases ofGenerations Legends ClassThundercracker andMotorbreath.
The Ultimate Gift Set was exclusive to online retailers in the United States, but was available at general retail in Asia.

Say hello to my little friend, and Roller.
  • Optimus Prime & Autobot Roller (Legends Class, 2013)
    • Series / Number:02 / #001
    • Accessories: Ion Blaster
Part of the third wave of 2012-onwardsGenerations Legends Class toys,Thrilling 30 Optimus Prime is roughly the same size as aCyberverse Commander Class toy and transforms into a semi-truck cab. Both his truck androbot mode are based on hisDon Figueroa-designed body fromIDW's2009-2011 comic series, and features5 mm-compatible hands and roof. He comes with anIon Blaster which has both 5mm and 3mm posts.
He comes with "Autobot Roller", who can transform into a six-wheel armored SUV, a robot with3 mm-compatible hands, and a weapon with a 5 mm handle. He has a 5 mm hole in vehicle mode and a 3 mm hole in weapon mode for mounting the Ion Blaster.
Not depicted in the instructions or stock photos, Roller can attach to Prime in vehicle mode via two tabs on the vehicle front which slot into two corresponding slots on Prime's feet. Another undocumented feature is that the butt of the Ion Blaster can be inserted between the barrels of Roller's weapon mode to form a longer weapon. Also not shown in the instructions but depicted on the stock photo on the card-back is that Prime's shoulderpads can be rotated up; the intended positioning for this is notched, although you can position them at other angles.
The stock photo of Optimus' vehicle mode is slightly mistransformed: his head slightly sticks out from the truck roof, which prevents the front windows to clamp together. This mold was also used to makeThrilling 30Nemesis Prime, and retooled intoCombiner WarsHuffer andAutobot Pipes.

  • Orion Pax (Deluxe Class, 2013)
    • Series / Number:02 / #002
    • Accessories: Ion Blaster, Energon Axe
Part of the fifth wave of 2012-onwardsGenerations Deluxe Class toys,Thrilling 30 Orion Pax is based onGuido Guidi'sdesign for the character, originally seen inSpotlight: Blurr. Some liberties have been taken with the original concept to facilitate his Cybertronian truck mode, which is a new design not based on the Guidi art. He comes with hisIon Blaster and anEnergon Axe with a transparent red-orange blade, both of which can peg onto 5 mm ports on his hands and vehicle rear sides. Although not depicted on the instructions, the Ion Blaster can also peg into the hole in the larger blade of the Energon Axe. Even though the light-piping eyes are neutered by light blue paint, the side grooves are still able to light up as the paint only focuses on the central optic.
The American release is packed in with a copy of IDW'sSpotlight: Orion Pax, which sports a 'Hasbro Exclusive Cover' cropped from theClayton Crainretailer incentive cover for the issue. In Europe and Canada, the figure was released without the Spotlight.
Depending on how many painted layers on the Energon axe's hilt, inserting it onto any hand may cause it to scratch off.
Most of the first-wave Orion Pax toys released in monolingual Englishpackaging sport a bizarreerror: Thecharacter art on the side of the cardboard insert inside the blister bubble has the character art of Orion'swave-mateMegatron superimposed over Orion's own art. This error doesn't appear on theEuropean packaging.
The toy was laterrecolored andretooled to makeTimelinesLio Convoy,Nova Prime, andGalva Convoy. The mold was designed with a pre-tooledKup alternate head that remains unused.[1]

  • Metroplex (Titan Class, 2013)
    • 01 OF 30
Anexclusive version of Titan ClassMetroplex was made available atSan Diego Comic-Con 2013. He comes with 12small, non-transforming figurines of Orion Pax,Megatron,Bumblebee,Thundercracker,Trailcutter, andHoist, all in both modes. The figurines are based on theirThrilling 30 Deluxe Class toys, and similarly toDecoys, the Autobot figurines are cast in red plastic, and the Decepticons in purple.
The handle of Pax's Energon Axe is incredibly thin and unable to support the axe head, meaning the latter tends to droop down in the process.

Another exclusive version of Titan ClassMetroplex was made available atHong Kong ACG-CON 2013. This Metroplex also has the 12 figurines of Orion Pax,Megatron,Bumblebee,Thundercracker,Trailcutter, andHoist, but casts the Autobot figurines in gold plastic, and the Decepticons in silver.

Combiner Wars

(thumbnail)
Beefcake is the right of all sentient beings.
  • Optimus Prime (Voyager Class, 2015)
    • 3 OF 5:Ultra Prime
    • Accessories: Two blasters (combine into large rifle)
Part of the first wave ofGenerations:Combiner Wars Voyager Class toys, this is a bigger, bulkier incarnation of Optimus Prime with a striking resemblance to Ginrai. He comes with two blasters which he holds via 5 mm post. One of the guns is based on his trademark Ion Blaster, and both weapons store on the back of his vehicle mode as a makeshift engine block. His torso mode has several details that appear to be influenced byEnergon Optimus Prime's super mode, including the head, chest, and thighs. In particular, the chest details are modeled after theSpark of Combination. He also features two pair of fake windows on his robot and gestalt chest halves. The combiner head can be used as a robot mode head if you're feeling silly.
Optimus suffers from a design flaw that many other Voyager Class figures in theCombiner Wars line experience: the detents, or "click points", on the heavily-ratcheted outward motion of his hips (which also form the hips of his torso mode) are few in number and very far apart. As a result, Prime's legs have great difficulty assuming the natural "A-stance" formation that the angled design of his foot sculpt seems to have been meant to accommodate. Likewise, when forming the torso of Ultra Prime, the interactions of the knee-lock mechanism and the hip detents almost always force Ultra Prime's legs into either an awkwardly knock-kneed arrangement or an equally awkward, and often unstable, bow-legged posture (as seen in the image to the right) that prevents Ultra Prime from standing flat-footed. Unlike Motormaster, this version of Optimus was the only one to not receive the improved hip ratchets implemented in its future releases in some shape or form by Hasbro, though they would be used for the Battle Core redeco later in the line. If one wishes, the improved hip ratchets from a relevant release can be used to replace Prime's first edition ratchets to effectively fix him.
Being aCombiner Wars Voyager, Prime is naturally capable of transforming into a torso mode to combine with any 4 Deluxe ClassCombiner Wars-style toys, though his packaging call-out has him form Ultra Prime by combining him with Deluxe ClassSkydive andAlpha Bravo as the arms, and withFirefly andDecepticon Drag Strip as the legs. He can combine withSunstreaker,Mirage,Prowl, andIronhide if one wishes to have an IDW-accurate Optimus Maximus.
Unfortunately, Optimus Prime is also the weakest link of the gestalt combination, due to a number of design failures attributed to his torso mode. The square holes-and-tabs used to secure the arms together when in torso mode are too weak to remain locked in place (though a very small amount of copies can secure the arm well), and are prone to falling out of position should an attached arm be moved. The torso mode's skirt plate is also attached to the stomach rather than the pelvis, rendering the waist swivel nearly worthless due to the skirt obstructing articulation.
Optimus comes packaged with a collector's card featuring art from the initial release of theTransformers Legends mobile game. The mold would be retooled several times, resulting inMotormaster,Battle Core Optimus Prime, andWrecker Toxitron. The toy also served as a model forForged to FightNemesis Prime.

A white Optimus thatisn'tUltra Magnus?! What is this madness?
  • Battle Core Optimus Prime (Voyager Class, 2015)
"Battle Core Optimus Prime" is a white redeco and slight retool of the previousCombiner Wars Optimus figure. According to the Hasbro panel atBotCon 2015, his new head is based on Star Convoy (see above).
The figure features newly redesigned hip ratchets to make both robot and combiner mode stable, which were also installed in both TakaraTomy'sMotormaster,Grand Scourge, and a revision wave of Hasbro's Motormaster. The pegs that Legends Class Rodimus (or Blackjack) attach to have also been slightly modified to provide a tighter fit, making the latter toy much less prone to falling out.
Battle Core Optimus Prime can combine with any Deluxe Class toys with theCombiner Wars-styled joint—but, of course, he is intended to be combined withSunstreaker,Mirage,Prowl, andIronhide to formOptimus Maximus. He can also combine withUnite WarriorsStreetwise,Groove,Prowl, andCombiner WarsRook to form White Convoy Grand Prime, as seen in theGenerations Selects Special Comic promoting God Neptune.
Battle Core Optimus Prime comes packaged with a collector's card based on his packaging art. the prototype printed on the back of the box & the stock photos, and the CG model in the instructions had him possessing a single tampographed/stickered symbol on his left arm.
He and the last three waves ofCombiner Wars Deluxe and Voyager figures later showed up in the U.S. at TJ Maxx at reduced prices.
As a part of the third and fourth wave promotion in Hasbro's Asian markets, a free sticker sheet for theProtectobots andOptimus Maximus was given out when purchasing any four Deluxe Class toys from those waves. As such, Battle Core Optimus Prime was given Generation 1 toy-esque stickers for the owner to apply if they wanted.[2]
This figure wasrepurposed intoWhite Gallant Convoy in theGenerations Selects Special Comic.

Cyber Series

No, not an upsized KO.
  • Optimus Prime (Cyber Battalion, 2015)
Part of the first wave ofGenerations: Cyber Series Cyber Battalion figures, Optimus Prime is a roughly Voyager-sized figure and transforms from a truck (which is based on theGenerations Thrilling 30 Legends Class Optimus Prime figure) into a robot in just 7 simple steps. The figure's transformation engineering had taken cues from theReveal the Shield Legends Class Optimus Prime figure, while it still retains the same ol' articulation.
As with other earlier Cyber Series figures, Optimus Prime had a rather strange release cycle. At first, he only retailed exclusively in Asia and Latin America, with the closest to a U.S. release being in limited quantities from online retailer BigBadToyStore.com. He did, however, end up being available in the Universal Studios Theme Park, and also later as a Walgreens exclusive.

  • Optimus Prime (Cyber Commander, 2015)
This roughly 11-inch leader-sized figure of Optimus Prime transforms from a robot to trailer/truck combination and back, with the transformation taking cues from both theReveal the Shield Legends Class andtheRobots in Disguise Legion Class toys. Surprisingly, he does have a reasonable amount of articulation, including a balljointed head and hinged joints for his arms, shoulders and legs, plus lateral hinges for his feet. His head includeslight-piping and, unlike other Cyber Series toys, his truck windows haveactual transparent plastic rather than just being merely painted.

(thumbnail)
Trukk with Munky arms but slightly more G1.
  • Optimus Prime (Cyber Commander, 2017)
A redeco of the Cyber Commander toy above, this Prime features grey plastic replacing the original blue, some deco differences on the arms, body & legs. He also features a flame tampograph on the sides of his vehicle front. He comes in an altered packaging that replaces the first version's paintedprototypestock photos with CG renders depicting the new deco, and also features a new Hasbro product code number, thus making him officially a separate product rather than a drastic running changevariant.
Interestingly, the side profile of the cab transitions from red to blue with a flame-like design, obviously nodding towards his movieverse counterpart.

  • Optimus Prime Year of the Goat Edition (2015)
    • Accessories: "Laser cannon", "saber weapon", missile launcher, 10 missiles, 5 discs, 2 rockets
Released to celebrate the Year of the Goat,Platinum Edition "Year of the Goat" Optimus Prime is a redeco ofGeneration 2 Laser Optimus Prime, featuring the same discs lacking the G2 Autobot logo found on theRobots in DisguiseScourge version of the mold, but otherwise keeping all the electronics from the original release. Like Year of the Goat Soundwave, Year of the Goat Optimus Prime features an awkward mix of orange, black, clear pink (in some parts including missiles, the discs, and even the pump!), some clear blue (the missile's tips), translucent plastic, and some hint of chrome silver (mostly his trailer parts, which happens to give the trailer somewhat of a resemblance to that of the aforementioned Scourge).

Meanwhile, in an alternate universe, the arms are his weak points for Megatron.
  • One Shall Stand, One Shall Fall (2-pack, 2016)
    • Accessories: Smokestacks/Laser Gun, energy unit/ion blaster
Part of Hasbro'sPlatinum Edition offerings for 2016 intended to commemorate the 30th anniversary ofThe Transformers: The Movie, this Optimus Prime is yet another redeco of theClassics Voyager toy. Rather than theshow-accurate colors like theAge of Extinction 2-pack figure, the toy's deco is very similar to theClassics release, with some changes and omissions: his blue plastic is a dark metallic sheen, his knee's yellow detailing was removed, his small Autobot symbol tampograph was placed on his right shoulder, and his larger one is placed on his energy unit. His side door/arm kibble is left unpainted. According toMark Weber, this was meant to represent his abdominal area being torn in the movie's battle. (Yeah, we have no idea how it works, since the "battle damage" parts end up on hisarms in robot mode.)
Both his robot and vehicle modestock photos depict him slightly mistransformed.
Platinum Edition Optimus Prime was only available as part of a 2-pack withMegatron, named "One Shall Stand, One Shall Fall" after Optimus Prime's famous line in the movie. In the United States and Canada, this set was officially released as anAmazon exclusive. It was also available in several of Hasbro's Asian markets (namely the Philippines and Singapore; it's currently unknown whether it was exclusive to any particular stores there or not). In Australia, it was sold at Myer stores, whereas in the United Kingdom, it was both sold atToys"R"Us stores and available via Tesco's website (but never found in stores). Surprisingly, it was (and still is) a common find in Brazilian online stores.

  • Optimus Prime Year of the Rooster Edition (2017)
    • Accessories: Trailer/Combat Deck, Roller, ion blaster, gas pump, energon-axe, Autobot Matrix of Leadership, rocket pack, 8 fists (4 left, 4 right), Autobot insignia stand
In anunexpected turn of events,Platinum Edition Optimus Prime is anunchanged release ofHybrid StyleConvoy, making it the very first Hasbro release of the figure. He retains all of the original figure's accessories, and the die-cast construction.
Ironically, despite being a rerelease of a small yet complex adult collectible, the figure is marked as "for ages 8 and up". Hope you didn't lose the small parts here.
The set was first released as an exclusive in Taipei Movie & Toy Convention 2016 in limited quantities; and later throughWalmart's Canadian website. In late March 2019, the figure finally saw distribution in the US as a BigBadToyStore exclusive.

An Optimus Prime...retooled from anUltra Magnus?WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?
  • Autobot Apex & Powermaster Optimus Prime (Leader Class, 2016)
    • Accessories: Two blasters, two shoulder cannons,Apex Titan Master
A heavy retool ofCombiner WarsUltra Magnus, this Optimus Prime is based on the Powermaster Optimus Prime toy from 1988. Despite this, Hi-Q (now renamed 'Autobot Apex', presumably for trademark reasons) doesn't form the engine on Prime's chest; instead, he transforms into a de-faceplated version of the original Powermaster Optimus Prime cab robot head, over which a helmet slides during transformation to complete the Powermaster Prime look. In all three of Optimus Prime's modes are various pegs and seats with which Titan Master figures can interact. Like other Leader Class figures, his base mode can connect to otherTitan Returns figures with base modes.
Most notably in terms of new tooling, the panels on the undersides of Powermaster Optimus Prime's forearms feature slots under the fists, which allow the guns to tab in and be held much more stably than with Ultra Magnus. And due to the amount of empty space in the cab area in vehicle mode, Powermaster Prime can fully transform without the need to remove his head.
Powermaster Optimus Prime also comes with a collector's card based on his packaging art.
Optimus comes with the same rifles asCombiner Wars Ultra Magnus which have the undocumented feature of combining into a huge multi-barreled rifle. His instructions show that one of the two Titan Master seat guns can peg onto the top of his chest plate in base mode, but are unclear on exactlyhow. The tab on the chest plate plugs into the hole where the Titan Master's feet peg in. However, in doing so the Titan Master will no longer fit. Due to the extra panels that were added to the legs, Optimus can not stand totally flat on both feet. Fortunately, this doesn't have any serious effect on the toy's stability due to the size of the feet. His gray plastic has a particularly warm tint compared to the original, likely the result of referencing ayellowed specimen of the original Powermaster figure (such as the one onthis very page). Optimus' Autobot symbols are also in two different styles. The ones on the shoulders are of the Movie variety, while the trailer features a traditionalGeneration 1-styled insignia.
Fortress Maximus's instructions depict him as part of theCybertron City combination. Meanwhile, the "Siege on Cybertron" instructions show him as a part of theNemesis Command combination, albeit mislabeled asAutobot Blaster.
This mold was further retooled asLegendsSuper Ginrai, which was redecoed into Siege On CybertronMagnus Prime.

An Optimus Prime that turns into ajet? AND HE'S A DECEPTICON?THE MADNESS IS SPREADING!
  • Diac & Optimus Prime (Voyager Class, 2016)
    • Accessories: Sword, Double-barreled rifle,Diac Titan Master
This Optimus Prime is a Voyager-sized Triple Changer mold, which transforms from robot toOctane-ish tanker truck to plane. His robot mode is heavily based onGeneration 2Laser Optimus Prime, whilst the deco appears to draw from Star Convoy. His Titan Master partnerDiac transforms into his head (but any Titan Master figure is compatible). Like allTitans Return Voyager class figures, he has built-in mechanisms to "bulk up" his noggin. In his case, these are spring-loaded pylons. His robot mode also features fake truck windows.
This iteration of the mold and its redecoes exhibit a minor design flaw: there are two tabs on the plane mode's wings that prevent the truck mode's trailer from fully closing at the rear. Ostensibly, this can be rectified by setting the wings slightly askew so they can properly flatten against each other. However, this leads to some holes on each wing not being lined up with some corresponding pegs on the trailer.
The stock photo is slightly mistransformed: the wings in jet mode should sit further forward to better resemble a real commercial jet. The packaging art and instructions show the correct orientation. This error is present in photography for all reuses of this variant of this mold.
This mold was redecoed intoLegendsBlack Convoy andStreet Fighter X TransformersRyu, and retooled intoOctone. Beginning with this wave, Hasbro changed the standard packaging design forTitans Return Voyagers from "Autobot" style to "Decepticon" style regardless of character faction.
This mold would've been redecoed as "Action Master" Optimus Prime with a redecoed Infinitus Titan Master for the BotCon 2017 "Action on Hydrus Four" set that never came to be.

An Optimus Prime with a picture of him burning down forests!?THIS IS MADLY OUTRAGEOU...no wait.
  • Chaos on Velocitron (Giftset, 2017)
Released under the name "Laser Prime", this Optimus Prime is a redeco of the above Voyager Class figure, with its deco based onhisGeneration 2 toy...and yes, the tanker's sticker is still him burning down forests. Unfortunately, the enormous stickers are usually poorly applied, resulting in peeling, trapped air bubbles, and misaligned placement.
Refractor and Laser Prime were only available in a box set named "Chaos on Velocitron" that includesDynamus andQuickswitch,Parsec andAutobot Nautica,Fastclash, and aRodimus Prime Titan Master head. The set was officially announced by Hasbro to be aToys"R"Usexclusive, and was sold at stores in the United States, Canada, and Hasbro's Asian markets (such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong). Despite this, it later became available viaAmazon in the United States (but not in Canada) as well, actually sold by Amazon directly (as compared to a third-party seller).

  • Optimus Prime & Shreddicus Maximus (Primitive Skateboarding exclusive Leader Class, 2017)
    • Accessories: Two blasters, two shoulder cannons, 'Shreddicus Maximus' Titan Master, Skateboard, 3-piece ramp/railgun
Released as part of a collaboration between Transformers andPrimitive Skateboarding, this figure is a black repaint of theTitans Return Powermaster Optimus Prime, with the deco somewhat resemblingNucleon Quest Super Convoy, but with some gold trims and Primitive Skateboarding markings partially designed by Primitive Skateboard founderPaul Rodriguez. He also comes with a new hoverboard accessory (resembling the oneDaniel Witwicky used inThe Transformers: The Movie), which Shreddicus Maximus (or any other Titan/Prime Master) can attach to. This board is designed to attach to the included three-piece skating ramp & rail assembly, which can be folded up and rebuilt into a railgun (get it?) that other figures can wield.
Optimus & Shreddicus were initiallyexclusive toSan Diego Comic-Con 2017, where they sold out. A small portion of the run had been held for future sales:Hasbro Toy Shop put the set up for sale for about five minutes onAugust 14 before selling out. The remainder was available atHasCon 2017's exclusives booth, but again they burned through the stock very quickly.

  • Optimus Prime (2017)
    • ID Number:MP-10
    • Accessories: Ion Blaster, Matrix of Leadership, Energon axe
Another Hasbro release of theMP-10 mold, which isbasically a reissue of the2010Transformers line'sMasterpiece Optimus Prime, but with the Japanese release's ID number. Surprisingly he is NOT mistransformed on the initial official photography... until secondary stock photos had the vehicle modeslightly mistransformed. Unlike the original Hasbro version, this version features silver paint on the interior of the trailer. This version also removes the red paint on the die cast hinge piece in his body and replaces it with blue paint. Sadly, this figure doesn't come with the Key to Vector Sigma. Due to compact packaging, the trailer is prone to scuffing. Some copies unfortunately have a defect where the windows will not close all the way in both robot and vehicle mode.
The figure debuted as aSan Diego Comic-Con 2017 exclusive in the U.S., then as a Toys"R"Us exclusive in the United States and Canada.

Power of the Primes

  • Evolution Optimus Prime (Leader Class, 2018)
    • TakaraTomy ID number:PP-09
    • TakaraTomy release date:May 25, 2018
    • Accessories: trailer/evolution armor, ion-blaster (formed by two blasters),Matrix of Leadership frame, Matrix of Leadership core
Power of the Primes "Evolution Optimus Prime" transforms from a truck with a trailer into a robot and back. The truck cab transforms into his "Orion Pax" form based on his appearance in the Generation 1 episode "War Dawn", and he is able to form the core of Optimus Prime's robot mode. His trailer forms Prime's entire body, sharing a noticeable amount of details with MP-10 mold, most notably an almost identical head sculpt. The figure's trailer can also be towed by any other figure with a compatible hitch.
He is the first non-MasterpieceGenerations G1 Optimus Prime figure to include a removableMatrix of Leadership accessory, which is stored in his chest in the 'Evolved' form, and the center of his Matrix of Leadership can be replaced with anyPrime Master. Hision blaster can be split into two weapons for Orion Pax to use, while also stored on Optimus Prime's back via visible5 mm posts of Orion Pax's hands, though this is undocumented in the instructions.
Depending on the individual copy, Optimus Prime is prone to having a number of quality control issues: ranging from two left/right arms and/or legs/feet on the evolution armor, to lacking stickers on the trailer pieces. The Takara version of the mold lacks the production numbers located at his right shins, though, as with allPower of the Primes Takara figures, it is otherwise identical to its international version, meaning that the aforementioned quality control issues still persist in this release.
This toy was reissued in 2022 for select markets and reran again forTarget stores andHasbro Pulse in 2024.
This mold wasretooled intoPower of the PrimesNemesis Prime and later intoSelectsStar Convoy.

    • Accessories: "W-50 Dual-Mech Energon Strikeshield," "W-M3 RF Ion Blaster" (combines to form "Sentrystrike Ultra-Blaster")
Part of the first wave ofSiege Voyager Class figures, Optimus Prime transforms from robot to Cybertronian armored truck cab and back. He includes two weapons compatible with theC.O.M.B.A.T. System—the "W-50 Dual-Mech Energon Strikeshield," which is an axe that transforms into a shield, and the "W-M3 RFIon Blaster." Both weapons can combine to form the "Sentrystrike Ultra-Blaster." Optimus Prime also features "battle damage" paint applications on several parts of his body, as well as multiple hardpoints all over himself and his weapons to accommodate "Fire Blasts" from theBattle Masters assortment, which can be used to simulate blaster fire or explosions.
Opening the figure's windows in vehicle mode shows theMatrix of Leadership molded into the plastic behind the windows. Due to the transformation, the Matrix doesn't end up in the chest in robot mode. Despite being a Voyager-scale figure, the truck mode is considerably tiny, in scale with a Legends-sized figure. Whether through coincidence or design, it's possible to fit aPower of the Primes Matrix core (and by extension, aPrime Master orTitan Master) in his chest. An additional, undocumented but confirmed third "hover truck" mode exists, which is achieved by folding all of his wheels under his vehicle mode. While the back wheels don't lock in anywhere, the two front wheels have small tabs that plug into slots on the back of the wheel sections that aren't used for either of his other modes.[4] Depending on the figure's quality control, the truck's roof may not sit securely flush in vehicle mode, notably on the rear right side.
There is a message written inCybertronian letters on Optimus Prime's box art, which reads "LIGHT THE DARKEST HOUR."
This mold was later redecoed intoNemesis Prime, and a handful of parts were reused for theEarthrise Optimus Prime figure released in 2020, including the shins, as such, the trailer packaged with theEarthrise figure is fully compatible with theSiege figure's truck mode.
While it doesn't happen in its vintage release the unpaintable plastic on subsequent reruns of the figure has suffered from photodegradation.
While Hasbro and TakaraTomy's releases of the toy are almost identical, the battle damage paint apps on the latter's shoulders and legs are slightly altered in size.[5]

    • Accessories: 5 "JF-50 TwinblastGalaxy Pack" armor pieces, 2 "W-30 Magnetic Inducer Launchers," "JF-15 Gravity Force Laser," 2 front wheels/armguards
Part of the second waveSiege Leader Class figures, "Galaxy Upgrade Optimus Prime" is an extensive retool of the same line'sUltra Magnus, taking heavy design cues fromCybertron Optimus Prime (the Japanese series name being "Galaxy Force," which is referenced in the name). He transforms into a heavily armed fire truck like theCybertron figure, but with a Cybertronian aesthetic. The two "W-30 Magnetic Inducer Launchers" are unpainted blasters fromSiege Ultra Magnus, and as such, mirror the detailing placed just behindRobots in DisguiseUltra Magnus's cab. Their hexagonal tips resemblingCybertron Optimus Prime's Super Mode leg cannons were likely a foresight for this retooling, but are molded in black rather than grey likely due togang-molding. Optimus Prime also features "battle damage" paint applications on several parts of his body, as well as multiple hardpoints all over himself and his weapons to accommodate "Fire Blasts" from theBattle Masters assortment, which can be used to simulate blaster fire or explosions.
The core figure's robot mode is inspired by Prime's Generation 1 look, but withvehicle mode details and coloration (including yellow eyes) based on the cab of hisCybertron counterpart. As with the originalCybertron figure, the barrel of the truck's left cannon can be detached and wielded by Prime as a rifle called the "JF-15 Gravity Force Laser." The sides of the bumper in truck mode can detach and form arm cannons based on hisCybertron counterpart's forearms. All five weapons are compatible with theC.O.M.B.A.T. System. Because of the nature of the mold, additional shoulder padsresembling halves of his truck cab were included to complete the Super Mode's resemblance to the template. The vehicle mode's cannons can be underslung and handheld similarly to theCybertron figure thanks to the sliding pegs, but lack the original's gimmicks. Unlike Ultra Magnus, Galaxy Upgrade Optimus Prime also features flip-out support struts on the leg armor to compensate for the back's weight. While they're hardly needed since the armor's bulk is heavy enough to support the weight, the pieces also prevent the leg armor from standing flat when folded in.
There are two errors in the instructions; first, the crotch piece should be rotated into the Super Mode side - the unnotched side - for vehicle mode, otherwise the trailer won't clip into the cab's 'spine' correctly; secondly, the last step of the cab mode repeats pushing the cab forward.
Unlike the above Voyager Class figure, this Prime is fully compatible with theMagnus Armor, as is Ultra Magnus with Optimus's Super Mode gear. Also, whether intentional or not, the figure scales almost perfectly with other figures from the original Cybertron line.
The box art of his vehicle modes ismistransformed as a result of using CGI renders; the two shoulder pieces are shown being left on, which is genuinely impossible and in fact appear to be clipped through each other. They are instead stored inside the leg armor, which forms the back end of the trailer. Strangely, the clear blue plastic used for the cab has light bars molded in, but they are painted over in red. Presumably, this is to make the inner robot appear more like G1 Optimus but results in a less accurate vehicle mode compared to theCybertron design. Additionally, there are existing stock photos of the figure without the wingpack and the smaller robot head flipped out.

Specially branded for the 35th anniversary of theTransformers brand,Siege "Classic Animation Optimus Prime" is a redeco of the Voyager Class figure above, featuring a cel-shaded paint pattern that evokes his appearance in the cartoon (though the physical result is more like that ofDevastation). In addition, the grey plastics and paint operations are now replaced with white, and the tire rims' paint is omitted.
Alongside fellow cel-shaded figureMegatron and the other "35th Anniversary" figures, Optimus was exclusive toWalmart in the United States and Canada, and among the first figures that debuted a new, "worldwide"multilingual packaging design that merged the languages typically found on European packaging with those found on American packaging. In a bit of a snafu, though, all the English texts on his packaging are simply repeated four times, instead of being translated into French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese, or omitted in case two or more translations would be identical to each other (or to the English version).

Wherehe at?
Collaborative Ghostbusters x TransformersMasterpiece MP-10G Optimus Prime Ecto-35 Edition (whew!) is aGhostbusters-themed redeco of the MP-10 Convoy/Optimus Prime mold.
Optimus Prime is now decoed in white, dark gray and red, with a Ghostbusters "no ghosts" logo on his right shoulder in addition to the Autobot logo on his left. The trailer is decoed similarly, with Ecto-1 style details adorning the sides, as well as green ghost splatter. Optimus's vehicle mode bumper includes an "ECTO-35" plate, which can be seen through his chest in robot mode, referencing the 35th Anniversary of both theTransformers andGhostbusters franchises.
He includes all his accessories, aside fromSpike and his axe, gaining a number of additional ones consistent with the theme. The trailer opens out into the "Ecto-Base," or can be stood upright as the "Ecto Maintenance Dock." A snap-on cover can be applied to Roller to turn him into a ghost trap, a painted opaque version of theSlimer figure included with Ectotron, and a "roof-rack accessory" using the same mold asEctotron's that pegs into the roof of the trailer. This final item converts into a proton pack for robot mode, pegging into the hole in his back, and a hose connects his ion blaster to the proton pack to serve as a particle thrower. In addition, the figure's packaging is shaped like a proton pack, complete with clips to enable the buyer to strap it to their back.
Ectotron cansort of fit into Prime's trailer, but this requires the former's equipment rack to be removed from the roof, and clearance within the trailer prevents the trailer's rear tailgate from closing.
Ecto-35 Edition Optimus Prime debuted as an exclusive atSan Diego Comic-Con in 2019, with additional availability at Fan Expo Canada and theHasbro Pulse online store.

VNR-Optimus-Prime.jpg
  • VNR Optimus Prime (2023)
"VNR Optimus Prime" is a redeco of the earlierHoliday Optimus Prime figure, this time in traditional Optimus Prime colors. This release sees the circuitous path of the abortedAmazonCollaborative toy[7] come full circle, here branded on his internal packaging under the name "Collaborative Volvo Trucks × Transformers Optimus Prime." He converts in 37 steps into an (at last explicable) licensedVolvo VNR 300. He includes the ion cannon, Matrix, andEarthrise trailer of the Holiday release, naturally done up in more orthodox livery. Caution for those attempting to use theCenturion Drone Ion blaster and Energon Axe accessories, the peg handles are NOT compatible owing to their wider diameter and non-opening fists of the mold.
Depending on how you pose the figure, the mold tends to be front "heavy" when posed at your standard "stand up straight" form without any dynamic spread the legs style. This is due to how the front feet cannot be extended forward due to a single hinge attaching the joint to the inner "truck cab" being static. This concentrates the center of gravity way behind, parallel to what forms the cab's windshield when it should be adjacent to what makes the cab's front wheels.
This figure was made available exclusively atHasbro Pulse in the United States, and was available at general retail in Hasbro's Asian markets- which stocked the figure months before it was officially acknowledged by Hasbro themselves.

Generations Selects

(thumbnail)
"The Hate Plague is back?" (jams the Matrix on the gun)
Generations Selects Star Convoy is a retool of thePower of the Primes Leader Class mold, featuring new lower legs, head, upper shoulders, and waist parts for both the armor and inner robot, and a new torso for the latter. The Optimus Prime inner robot is remolded to resemble his Generation 1 toy, complete with toy-accurate yellow eyes. Most of the armor's grey parts (especially the evolution armor's arms) are now remolded in red plastic to be more accurate to Star Convoy's character model, though there are a few sacrifices leaving some of the red patches on the trailer.
The Matrix of Leadership is now replaced with the "Silver Matrix" that is a singular piece of plastic dipped in chrome. As such, it does not accommodate Prime Masters/Matrices/Enigmas. The Matrix can be held by 5 mm fist holes and can combine with the guns to form a "Big Bang Cannon". Unlike the original versions of the mold, Star Convoy's stickers, intended to be applied to his trailer, come on a sheet instead of being factory-applied.
The star-shaped piece that clips into Star Convoy's chest is new to this version of the mold. Because it pegs into a small hole between the tops of the doors to Star Convoy's chest compartment, it introduces an additional step to access the matrix chamber. The red connector which attaches the star to the figure is misassembled, and flipped from its proper orientation. Due to this, the star is prone to not attaching securely to the chest and can easily pop out without much effort. A fix[8] utilized by some to address the issue involves popping out the star and connector, then flipping the connector around, before reattaching both parts to the figure. Care should be taken when handling the star and transforming Star Convoy to ensure it does not bump against other parts of the figure or experience undue stress. The stem of the star is particularly fragile and has been known to break without much force being applied to it.
Reminiscent of the fact that the originalReturn of Convoy Star Convoy figure could transform into a battle station, a "Z Base Mode" resembling that original battle station mode was created for the character and introduced in theSelectsSpecial Comic promoting Super Megatron. This figure (and any of thePower of the Primes Evolution Optimus Prime molds) is capable of being configured into this form. In reference to the fact that the original Star Convoy figure included aMicromaster version of Hot Rod to man the battle station, one can populate the Z Base Mode with theFiredrive or Rodimus Prime Titan Masters fromHot Rod'sTitans Return figure and the "Chaos on Velocitron" box set respectively. As said Hot Rod Micromaster could also store in the original Star Convoy figure's chest, one can also re-enact this functionality by taking a Matrix frame from aPower of the Primes Leader Class figure and placing one of the aforementioned Titan Masters in it, then inserting the frame into Star Convoy's chest.
This toy was released exclusively throughTakaraTomy Mall and, thanks to brand unification,Hasbro Pulse and other online retailers in the United States and Canada. It is the firstSelects figure to be developed by TakaraTomy.

War for Cybertron: Earthrise

(thumbnail)
That's the news everyone's waiting for!
  • Optimus Prime (Leader Class, 2020/2024)
Released in the first wave ofEarthrise Leader Class toys, Optimus Prime is anextensive retooling of theSiege Optimus mold, now transforming into his classic cab-over Earth-truck mode. Interestingly, his rear wheels are borrowed fromStudio Series32 and44 Optimus Prime, and even has molded drilled-rotor brake discs, a surprising detail for a mainlineTransformers figure. While the vestigial knee flaps were meant to be flipped out while transforming him into truck mode, the flaps' pegs and the elbow's rectangular holes have a slight occupying-the-same-space issue, which can result in the cab noticeably tilting frontward. If this problem persists, the flaps can be untransformed to straighten the cab properly.
His very cartoon-like robot mode has an opening chest compartment containing a removableMatrix of Leadership accessory; in an undocumented feature, the Matrix can accommodate "Fire Blast" effect parts and attach to similarly-sized posts. His new Ion Blaster rifle, now in its classic shape, is hinged to fold away the barrel for storage. His hands feature hinge joints in the knuckles, allowing for more expressive posing and proper holding of the included Matrix, with the grip coming from a5 mm semi-circle formed by the palm and thumb. As the front grill/wheel piece is connected with a c-clip, removing it from his back allows the waist to turn without being hindered.
For the first time for a (non-Masterpiece)Generations Optimus toy, this release comes with a trailer (sadly too small to store any concurrent car-mode toy larger than theEarthrise Cliffjumper mold when closed up) that converts into a combat deck/repair bay complete with an "artillery robot". The trailer's inner walls are loaded with 5 mm post-holes for accessory storage. The main ramp isA.I.R. Lock System compatible, and its inner section is removable so it can be used as a shield, leaving a U-shaped partial ramp so any cars on the main deck can still roll out. The trailer's artillery robot has two 5 mm post-holes up front for Fire Blast effects or other accessories, and now featurestwo claw-arms, sadly the gaps in the claws are not 5 mm compatible. The robot can be removed from the trailer at its base and attached to other toys as a giant accessory, notably a "jetpack". (Coincidentally, the trailer's hitch post is at exactly the right height to let it rest inside the 5mm hole onThrilling 30 Roller.)
This figure can be augmented with theWar for Cybertron Trilogy "Deluxe Centurion Drone Weaponizer Pack", which includes a non-converting long-barreled Ion Blaster, his expected Energon Axe, andRoller. The Energon Axe is specifically molded to fit onto Optimus'sright hand, with the peg sliding into the underside of the fist. Although itcan fit on his left hand if slid through the top, this puts noticeable stress on the axe's peg due to the thumb sliding up against the housing. The set also comes withSideswipe's jetpack, and while it ismainly designed for Sideswipe it can, of course, be used by Optimus, though due to a section of Optimus' back being marginally wider than the space available, some force may be required to attach the jetpack fully. Whether by coincidence or not, the Energon Strikeshield from theSiege figure can attach to his forearms if the hands are tucked away, via the tabs on its hinged handle.
Like allEarthrise toys, the inside of the back of Optimus's package includes an exclusive clip-and-save piece of a larger star map. Also in the box is a thin red piece of transparent plastic with which to read the star map. Optimus' piece of the map contains the labeled location of a planet called "MICRON".
(thumbnail)
Dodged another shot! (Stock image comparison)
Confusingly, the figure hadmany color differences in different official promotional images. The original 3D renders depicted his colors completely show-accurate to the G1 cartoon (minus the blue codpiece, and with quite rare toy-accurate yellow eyes), the lack of striping on the forearms/side doors, and a fully blue artillery robot for the trailer, while the pre-release prototype seen in New York Comic Con 2019 and the secondary stock photos had his hands and elbows molded in grey, with artillery robot being cast in grey and silver plastic similar to the rest of the trailer. According toJohn Warden, this was due to the limitations of the mold. Even later, Takara's stock photos showed the figure with blue elbows and a blue and silver artillery robot. The retail release of the figure ultimately, for the most part, went with colors showcased in Hasbro's physical toy stock photos, but with previously yellow eyes now more cartoon-accurate blue, and with his hands, codpiece, and the back piece of his head painted in metallic blue. Early renders also displayed the figure's inner shins as being molded in the same blue color as the rest of the legs, although the final figure presents them cast in gray and unpainted. The sample on the TakaraTomy stock photos also depict his trailer hitch as a single piece.
The issue with the painted blue hands is that if you keep attaching and removing any weapon, it will scrape the blue paint and its remains will get caught on the handle of the gun.
The legs have been shown to break on several copies due to the thin plastic quality of the early releases in 2020. This issue was fixed with a pin added to the reissue release in 2024.
Optimus also saw release with a retailer incentive gift box, coming with an additional large poster promoting theEarthrise cartoon with various signatures from the showrunners and the characters, includingJake Tillman, Prime's voice actor, and a die-cast logo pin.
The Optimus Prime robot mold was also used to makeWar for Cybertron Trilogy SelectsShattered Glass Optimus Prime. The trailer, including its artillery robot and shield/ramp, was redecoed for theWar for Cybertron TrilogyNemesis Prime's Spoiler Pack andHoliday Optimus Prime. The Matrix accessory was reused or repainted extensively for other contemporary Matrix-bearers, such asKingdom Rodimus Prime,Kingdom Galvatron, andStudio Series Hot Rod.
Optimus Prime was reissued in mid-2024 with pre-orders listed on April of that year.

Relive your traumatic childhood on Prime Day!
"Alternate Universe Optimus Prime" is a grayscale redeco of the figure above with a new head that evokes the battle damage and his death inThe Transformers: The Movie. The Matrix of Leadership is the same as the mass retail Leader, though the Ion Blaster is painted completely silver and his rear calves are painted. Another change is the number of lugnuts on the wheels of the trailer. The normal retail version has 10 lug nuts per wheel, while this release has none. He is packaged in aSelects-styled box that depicts Ultra Magnus, Hot Rod, andArcee grieving during his death scene reflected on a window of his damaged truck mode.
There are reported issues where the left chest piece is unable to tab in fully due to a deformed pin, leaving a small uneven gap visible in robot mode.
This is the onlyEarthrise toy to lack an ID number and map piece and isn't part of the Galactic Odyssey Collection. Coincidentally, Hasbro ID number WFC-E28 is never used in the toyline within its range of E1 to E41, lending to the possibility that WFC-E28 was intended to be his.
Before the figure was officially revealed, a single known specimen of theEarthrise Optimus Prime erroneously used the redeco's alternate head.[9]
Alternate Universe Optimus Prime was supposed to be released as an exclusive for Amazon Prime Day 2020, though the day was pushed back several months, making the toy release much earlier. The figure was fully revealed on Hasbro's June 26Fan First Friday stream. The figure was later released in Japan as aTakaraTomy Mall exclusive as part of the 7th wave of TakaraTomySelects toys.

    • TakaraTomy ID number:ER EX-22
    • TakaraTomy release date:March 27, 2021
Aminuscule figurine of Optimus Prime, about 10 millimeters tall, is included in theWar for Cybertron Trilogy Deluxe Centurion set, which is meant to complement theWar for Cybertron Trilogy Unicron figure.
Despite coming in aGenerations Selects-style box, the set is only branded as part of theWar for Cybertron Trilogy, and doesn't include aSelects lineup number, instead having anEarthrise ID number.TakaraTomy released this toy as part ofEarthrise inJapan.[10]

Promoting theEarthrise chapter of theWar for Cybertron Trilogy cartoon, this version of Optimus Prime is a trailer-less redeco of theEarthrise Leader Class mold in darker colors more reminiscent of hisG1 figure. He comes with Battle Masters Enerax and Sheeldron, translucent yellow redecoes ofSiegePteraxadon andEarthriseSoundbarrier respectively, without the effects parts. In terms of deco, Optimus's blue plastic/paint operations and the unpaintable gray joints are replaced with the same darker shade of blue (which also coincidentally resembles the erroneous deco used for most of TakaraTomy's stock photos of the mold), additional blue paint has been added to his legs, the molded detail in the center of his pelvis is painted yellow, the interiors of his opening chest windows are unpainted, the translucent plastic is tinted green, and the eyes are a non-metallic light blue.
The stock renders for both the robot and vehicle modes are inconsistent with the later stock photos: They reuse his deco from theEarthrise renders, but with blue eyes, green windows, and battle-damage paint apps that are absent on the final toy. The forearms are depicted as stripeless in robot mode, while the rear hip piece and the thighs are differently colored in the truck mode render.
While Optimus Prime never appears in hisEarthrise body in the cartoon, he was initially planned to for theEarthrise andKingdom chapters, the idea from which this toy is based. A cartoon CGI render of thisEarthrise Optimus Prime can be seen in theThe Art and Making of Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy.
As with otherWar for Cybertron Trilogy figures, Optimus Prime was exclusive to Walmart in Canada and the United States.

This figure ofNemesis Prime also represents a "much darker future" of Optimus Prime in theWar for Cybertron Trilogy cartoon.
Promoting theEarthrise chapter of theWar for Cybertron Trilogy cartoon, thisWar for Cybertron Trilogy Leader Unboxing set contains a redeco ofSiege Voyager ClassOptimus Prime as Nemesis Prime. The figure comes withSiege Optimus's "W-M3 RF Ion Blaster" (but not his "W-50 Dual-Mech Energon Strikeshield") plus a sizeable number of extras that beef up the price. These include: a redecoed trailer fromEarthriseOptimus Prime; the Dark Saber,Giza, and large forearm blaster accessories, all from thePower of the Primes Evolution Leader Class toy;Fangtron, aredeco ofEarthrise Battle MasterSlitherfang, along with their blast effect part; and a compound through which a buyer can dig to reveal energon cubes, rereleased fromWar for Cybertron TrilogyUltra Magnus's Spoiler Pack. Fangtron and the shield/Combat Deck ramp are both compatible with theA.I.R. Lock System, as the former can turn into a ramp or a shield for Nemesis Prime. This toy also features a different deco compared to the TakaraTomy Mall exclusive. Namely, he is in fact molded in very dark gray plastic as opposed to the deep black of the Takara version, and the vehicle stripes, bumper guns, and wheel rims are silver instead of teal.
The Hasbro stock photography for the truck mode is alsolaughably mistransformed, with the robot mode crotch being plainly visible, an error that actually requires a considerable amount of effort to replicate with the actual toy. In addition, neither the truck windows nor panels that cover the robot mode hands are compressed fully.
Much like previous Spoiler Pack, this set is in a windowless box designed to look like an ammo crate and features translatableAncient Autobot. The text on the package reads "FANGTRON" and "GIZA", while the 'spoiler' text inside features a Decepticon-themed quote: "YOU MUST STAY TRUE / TO WHOM THE MATRIX HAS / CHOSEN, FOR IF YOU / DON’T, A MUCH / DARKER FUTURE AWAITS" and an Autobot-themed one: "THE DEAD UNIVERSE IS / UNLIKE ANYTHING YOU’VE / EXPERIENCED, PRIME", which are both quotes fromSky Lynx inEarthrise episode 5. The lateral side of the package also features artwork of Nemesis Prime, edited from art ofEarthrise Optimus Prime. Compared to the previous Spoiler Pack, the packaging itself has no plastic insert.
This set was a shared exclusive between online retailers andWalmart in Canada and the USA. In New Zealand, the set was sold exclusively at Toy World and Mighty Ape. Like the previous Spoiler Pack, the TakaraTomy release is packaged in a standard windowed box.

Part of the first wave of theKingdom Core Class toys, Optimus Prime is a smaller, roughly Legends-sized mold that according to his product copy and stock images is meant to be posed with larger toys of the same character, but we would be stupid not to note that he is also a good size to interact with Titan Class figures. His transformation shares engineering with theThrilling 30 Legends figure, but with sculpted detailing directly based on theEarthrise mold, down to details like thevestigial knee flaps from theSiege mold. The included Ion Blaster features a 3 mm handle under a 5 mm post, dedicated to the C.O.M.B.A.T. System. He is also fairly articulated for a figure this small, having head rotation and tilting, torso rotation (which looks a bit unnatural), ab crunch, butterfly joints at the shoulders, and ball joints in shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees.
Unlike the actual product, the truck door section of the wrist/hand part is unpainted in the CG stock render. Curiously, his instructions depict an Energon axe that was notably left out of the final release and was not shown in stock photos.
The red paint on the flip-out arms will chip off over time due to repeated transformations caused by the snap-on connection that holds them in place in robot mode.
In Japan, Optimus Prime was released as aTakaraTomy Mall exclusive. This mold was later redecoed intoLegacy: EvolutionNemesis Prime, while utilizing the unused Energon Axe.

He includes an Energon sword, an Energon axe, a new removable Matrix of Leadership (notable NOT the same mold shared by other figures of the same time) which echoes the sticker details of the 2006 reissue, and a trailer that can transform into a battle station (tanker deco of Optimus burning down a forest not included, sadly) with a small detachable double-barreled cannon. The axe and sword can be stored either inside the trailer or on the cab, with the sword stored underneath the rear section of the cab like the original and the axe slotting in over the trailer hitch. In tanker mode, the trailer's claw arm can be folded to act as a jack to allow it to stand freely. His signature shoulder pylons can open outwards to reveal missile pods. He has restricted arm movement as the shoulder pylons do not rotate, while the real arms start beneath the flap.
Not mentioned in his instructions, the sword and axe can combine into a larger sword. His Matrix can be attached to the axe or the combined sword, using the rectangular peg near the axe's haft (normally meant to keep the handle folded neatly for storage). The chest slot where the Matrix plugs in is open in the back, seemingly meant to allow forlight-piping in robot mode. His eyes feature neutered light-piping due to the back of his head being painted over, but the eyes are left unpainted.
As the sword accessory is designed for this mold's open hands, it cannot be wielded by other figures with closed 5mm hands due to the protruding tab on the handle.
Most of Laser Optimus Prime's lower body, including his hips, thighs, the front of his lower legs (except for the shin vents), and feet, reuse elements from theEarthrise toy above whereas other details like his crotch, shins, back of the lower legs, tires, and the entirety of his upper body are brand-new. Like theEarthrise toy, the shins have theSiege figure's trailer hitch on the outside. Laser Optimus' trailer can be attached toEarthrise Optimus, as well asSiege Optimus,Kingdom Huffer, andKingdom Pipes. This figure is also similarly compatible with the trailer included withEarthrise Optimus.
The original release'sHasbro Pulse listing labeled him as "G2 Universe Laser Optimus Prime", while the packaging itself merely labeled him as "Laser Optimus Prime". The subsequentpackage refresh in theLegacy: United subline added the "G2 Universe" label on the box. Despite his origins, Optimus has no G2 faction symbols, only a silver G1 Autobot insignia on his left cab door.
This figure was also redecoed intoVelocitron Speedia 500 Collection "Robots In Disguise 2000 Universe Scourge" andToxitron Collection "G2 Universe Toxitron", as well asTarget Optimus Prime andSynergenexOptimus Prime Type MFS-3 Kiryu. The sword, axe, and Matrix were redecoed intoShattered Glass CollectionUltra Magnus'sTerminus Blade.

  • A Hero Is Born (2-pack, 2022)
A fairly extensive retool ofStudio Series Deluxe ClassKup with a new cartoon-accurate head, chest, and legs, transforming into a Cybertronian pickup truck... and is a clear homage to thee-HOBBY-exclusiverelease from 2005. Pax has a red pistol and anEnergon goodie dispenser, both also reused fromStudio Series Kup.
Legacy Orion Pax retains Kup's removable arm and leg feature, compatible with any 5mm port or post. Additionally—whether or not it was intentional— Orion Pax's shoulders and hips are inverted straight out of the box, differentiating the overall design from Kup. If one doesn't like them this way, a simple twist of the joints will put them back into the orientation they are on Kup.
Unfortunately, Orion Pax suffers from the same design issue as the mold's original release. The painted robot mode crotch area that is part of the vehicle mode undercarriage does not fold up far enough to prevent dragging and paint damage, thus care should be taken when the figure is transformed.
This figure is a part of aHasbro Pulse-exclusive 2-pack; also includingAlpha Trion withVector Sigma andits Key. The set was put up for pre-order duringPulse Con 2022, and began appearing in Hong Kong stores shortly afterwards.
Taiwanese fans who supported theHasLabVictory Saber project ended up getting the "A Hero Is Born" set instead (along with a full refund) after their Victory Sabers were severely water damaged during shipment and could not be delivered. No, this set is nowhere near as cool. Sorry?
This mold was further retooled to make the "War Dawn 2-Pack"Dion figure.

  • Accessories: Axe handle, axe head, blaster, ammo drum
  • Known designers:Evan Brooks (Hasbro)[12]
Part of theLegacy: Evolution "Pre-Cybertronian War" capsule, "Data Clerk Orion Pax" is a retool ofSiege Deluxe ClassHound, transforming into a Cybertronian armored off-road vehicle in 15 steps. He retains Hound's blaster with clip-on ammo drum and also includes a new two-piece axe based on that of theThrilling 30 Deluxe figure, both 5 mm compatible. The weapons can be mounted on any of his numerous 5 mm ports for storage, including his back and vehicle mode roof. His newly-molded chest is based on his appearance in "Chaos Theory", while his new head, legs, and windshield are based onGuido Guidi's design[13] from "Spotlight: Blurr". His color breaks and "Data Clerk" title are based onPrimeOrion Pax.
He comes comes in a 2-pack withSenator Shockwave, exclusive toAmazon in North America. The set was revealed and went up for pre-order on theMay 16Hasbro Pulse Fanstream alongside the "Rise of Tyranny" 2-pack. Amazon mistakenly mixed up the product IDs for the Rise Of Tyranny and Humble Origins two-packs; as a result, customers who pre-ordered this set were actually sentMiner Megatron andSenator Ratbat.

A Hasbro Pulse exclusive, thisLegacy: Evolution Optimus Prime is a cartoon-accurate redeco of the aboveKingdom Core Class figure. His plastic colors are generally brighter, with the grey unpaintable areas in particular now cast in pearlescent white. He also features some differences in paint applications, including no silver on the legs, no stripe on the vehicle mode cab, yellow highlights on his waist flaps, and a gray background for his eyes, all of which serve to make him more show-accurate. He now comes with his famoustrailer in Core Class scale (which can be hitched with an extension panel that doubles as a shield), which includes a tiny Roller (also able to tow the trailer!) and repair drone. The trailer was noted by its designerEvan Brooks to be proportionally large and is scaled to be able to fit the pack-in partnerBumblebee, though it's not quite long enough to fit the repair drone, Roller, and Bumblebee all at once. The set also includes both the Ion Blaster and Energon Axe accessories from the previous versions of the mold.
He was revealed and put up for pre-order on theJune 20Hasbro PulseFanstream. The set is also sold as a TakaraTomy Mall exclusive.

  • G1 Universe Optimus Prime (Deluxe Class,2024)
(thumbnail)
"We already have Missing Link at home." Missing Link at home:
Part of the fourth Wave ofLegacy: United Deluxes, "G1 Optimus Prime" is an unusualGenerations release in that it is focused entirely on reproducing the aesthetic of hisoriginal Generation 1 toy, not unlike TakaraTomy's higher endMissing LinkConvoy produced around the same time. The chief differences between this andMissing Link are that theLegacy: United toy is smaller than the G1 figure and lacksdie-cast metal andchrome. While not as articulated overall, this Deluxe does have better range at his waist and neck. His forearms, shins, and feet feature detailing based on the sticker placement of his original G1 toy, albeit unpainted. He features "PVC rubber"[sic] tires on all six wheels—the first mainline Optimus toy to have soft tires in avery long time. His tires read "CYBERTRON RADIAL 275/80 R22",[16] referencing the fictional "Cybertronian Radial" brand used byAlternators.
He is designed to be able to pull not only current trailers such as that of hisEarthrise toy, but also the original G1 trailer. Due to his smaller size, theEarthrise trailer is almost perfectly proportioned to him while the original G1 trailer is almost comically huge.
Optimus has a translucent blue Matrix of Leadership which he cannot hold but can store in his chest, modelled after the 2002New Year's Special version. He comes equipped with two versions of his ion blaster - a larger one modeled after the original G1 toy release and another, thinner version representing the running change variant of the G1 toy blaster. He also comes with an orange energy axe based on the one included with theThe Transformers CollectionConvoy. The smokestacks can be used as handheld weapons as well, but barely able to fit into his hands due to the height of his forearms. They are too large to safely be used withblast effects, potentially damaging the effects as they need to be stretched out to fit. All three weapons can store on his truck bed. His axe has nowhere to store in robot mode, and he only has one port on his back to store one of the blasters (unless you use the ones on his calves, but that looks a little silly).
Both of his blasters are cast in clear plastic and then painted over in glossy black paint. As a result, they tend to have an extremely tight fit to the point that some 5mm ports simply will not hold them. The ports on Prime's legs are similarly looser then normal, able to hold these two guns securely but are loose with basically any other 5mm accessory. Due to his fists being looser than normal to accommodate the blasters, the axe sitsvery loosely in Prime's fists and may not even plug in securely at all. The also is some variance in the amount of florescent yellow paint over his eyes, with many copies having it thick enough to neuter hislight-piping
Teased during theMay 14,2024 fanstream as a passion project for Maher, he was later officially revealed on the designer's Instagram page onJune 12 later that year, with pre-orders going up onJune 13.
This mold was also used to makeAge of the PrimesUltra Magnus.

  • Fractured Friendship 2-Pack (2-pack, 2024)
TF-Legacy-United-Fractured-Orion Pax.jpg
Legacy: United "Security Officer Orion Pax" is an extensive retool ofStudio SeriesGamer Edition Optimus Prime based on his appearance in "Chaos Theory" and the pre-war portions ofMore than Meets the Eye, transforming into a Cybertronian truck. Compared to Gamer Optimus, Pax has a new head, chest, shoulders, forearms, shins, and feet, the latter of which gives him some extra height so he can properly look his Decepticon counterpart in the eye. Most of his vehicle mode parts have also seen some notable retooling, resulting in a much more boxy truck mode; the new feet also unfold to to cover up the former gap in the rear.
His right forearm retains theGamer Edition figure's ability to be disconnected, revealing a5 mm post, which allows anyGamer Edition figure's blaster to be attached in its place. Despite this, Pax's own ion blaster has a new part attached to it with a screw so it can be held normally, sacrificing the ability for it to be attached to his arm. However, this functionality can be restored by simply removing the screw and detaching the new part.[17] This version of the mold fixes the swapped wheel misassembly of the original tooling.
In addition to the ion blaster, Pax comes with the same Matrix of Leadership accessory as Gamer Edition Optimus (which plugs into his chest cavity via a 5mm connection) and two new forearm-mounted cannons, which peg onto his sides in truck mode.
Security Officer Orion Pax was included in the "Fractured Friendship" 2-pack alongside the similarly IDW-inspiredGladiator Megatron. The 2-pack was revealed by IGN onJune 27, 2024 as an exclusive for that year'sSan Diego Comic-Con, with limited quantities later made available throughHasbro Pulse onAugust 5. It was later spotted at Chinese retail soon after its official reveal.[18]

Holiday Optimus Prime

(thumbnail)
"Your mistletoe is no match for my TOW missiles!"
  • Holiday Optimus Prime (2022)
A surprise reveal atMCM Comic-Con London 2022, "Holiday Optimus Prime" converts in 37 steps from a licensedVolvo VNR 300–known throughout the United States as an "Amazon Prime truck"–into a veryCombat Hero-styled Optimus Prime with a decidedlySanta Claus-ish color layout, in predominantly red deco with white trim and big black boots. The truck mode is decoed so as to represent snow kicking up over the fenders and falling down onto the roof of his trailer. Said trailer is a redeco of the one included withEarthrise Optimus Prime in white with red stripes and features atampographed Autobotinsignia wearing a Santa hat. It also has a new trailer-hitch add-on part with a much further-back hitch-peg, so the trailer connects in the proper place to Optimus's new truck mode; this part is removable so you can use the trailer with the originally-compatibleEarthrise toys. In terms of accessories, Prime comes with a redeco of theEarthrise toy's ion blaster in festive candy cane striping, as well as a "Matrix of Holiday Cheer" to store behind his translucent greenchest windows.
Prime's box is designed to look as though it has been pre-packaged in Autobot insignia/snowflake wrapping paper and partially ripped open to reveal the toy inside, even including a printed-on to/from gift tag!
The officialstock photography leaves two flaps on Prime's chest mistransformed; they should fold in to give himhis iconic grille detail.
The figure was made available for sale exclusively atHasbro Pulse on November 1, 2022, and shipped in early December 2022. This mold-set was later used to makeVNR Optimus Prime.
...Speaking of the "Amazon Prime" trucks, Holiday Optimus Prime appears to have been repurposed from a long-planned but ultimatelynever releasedCollaborative figure which was listed on the Australian version of the website as early as April 2021,[21] with a detailed product description following in June of that same year,[22] as well as listings on other international versions of the Amazon website such as Amazon Germany.[23] The Amazon Australia listing was later rediscovered in July 2022,[24] but photos still remained a no-show. Like Holiday Optimus Prime, the Amazon mashup was also specified to turn into a licensed Volvo truck in 37 steps. All signs point to the Volvo Optimus Prime mold being repurposed as an affiliate of a less corporate–and more public domain–gift distributor... not to mention as a release less likely to annoy othermajorretailers of Hasbro toys.

This is how we get AHEAD in sales.
  • Shockwave (Leader Class, 2024)
Generations Comic EditionShockwave comes with an accessory depicting the severed head of Optimus Prime in a harness, based on the events ofthe second storyline of theoriginalTransformers comic published byMarvel Comics, in which Shockwave attempts to extract theCreation Matrix from Prime. More specifically, the design is based onHerb Trimpe's artwork fromissues eleven andtwelve. The armatures for the harness accessory come on asprue and must be assembled.
The head ofEarthriseOptimus Prime can be removed and replaced with this head for a new Marvel inspired look! It can be a snug fit, though, so take a little care when installing. Also note that, as theSiege/Earthrise head mold does not have the appropriate gap in the back, it cannot be used on the harness in place of the new head.

  • Optimus Prime (Commander Class,2024)
Released for the brand's 40th anniversary,Studio Series '86 Optimus Prime transforms into a semi-truck in 40 steps. This version is evenmore cartoon-accurate than the last several iterations, based directly on his appearance inthe entire cartoonThe Transformers: The Movie. However, he still directly takes some design elements fromMasterpieceMP-10 Convoy, including his headsculpt, torso stripe details, thighs, and feet. He features a wide array of articulation points comparable to '86Ultra Magnus, including articulated hands with individual index fingers, rotatable "antenna ears", and butterfly shoulder joints, the latter of which lets him open up his chest compartment and deliver the haymaker that defeated Megatron in the movie. Said chest compartment contains anotherEarthrise-style Matrix of Leadership and features a front cover flap. Like Magnus, the Matrix can only be held by pinching it due to its small size. Unfortunately, the chest compartment remains red due to being made ofunpaintable plastic to support the butterfly joints. '86 Optimus Prime is about half a head taller than theEarthrise figure, making him closer in scale to most of his Autobot brethren from the past few years.
He comes with his ion blaster, energon axe, trailer (with Roller and Auto-Launcher repair drone), and a pair ofblast effects that are reminiscent of those that came with theMP-44 "Convoy Ver.3.0" figure, which can be used with his blaster and drone. Perhaps this set's most noteworthy new feature isanother pair of fiery effect parts that can be attached to the bottom of the cab, allowing collectors to recreate Prime's iconic truck-jumping scene during the Battle of Autobot City, completed with his included backdrop based on this scene. This is the first non-Masterpiece Optimus Prime toy to hide his wheels in robot mode, come with every main accessory used throughout the cartoon, and feature a cartoon-accurate truck bumper.
The ion blaster can store on his robot back and truck bed, though the latter might chip the blaster's gunmetal paint due to the tight fit. His energon axe attaches using a5 mm post revealed by flipping either hand, similar toMP-01. Prime's weapons and the beam effects are stored inside the trailer with Roller and the repair drone, with enough space left to fit store oneDeluxe Class car, while the "jumping" effects are stashed away in the trailer's undercarriage. The trailer can transform into a command station[32] or repair bay. The interior of the trailer is based on the MP-44 trailer's sculpt, itself inspired by theoriginal trailer's stickers. TheDiaclone consoles have been rendered as unpainted sculpted detail due to their space being used for accessory storage. The Auto-Launcher drone features its traditional antenna and claw arm, and has an opening cockpit, though the space is too small for even aDiaclone pilot to fit. Unfortunately, the drone cannot poke out of the trailer like previous versions, but it is removable and can be carried by Roller. Roller can also tow the trailer and is scaled to seat 4Titan Masters. The ion blaster can also be attached on Roller's rear port, but the tight fit can cause paint chipping on both accessories. Roller stores in the trailer by tabbing onto the drone, facing away from the door unlike usual. Optimus' trailer can also be successfully hitched to all figures previously capable of towing theEarthrise figure's trailer and all those retooled from the aforementioned mold, though the '86 figure can just barely pull the prior trailers.
This figure has a number of potential paint chipping issues. The painted red side panels in truck mode can chip from transforming as they slide into small gaps in the legs. To avoid this, the screws near the front feet need to be slightly unscrewed to widen the gap. The silver on the bottom of the front bumper can also get scraped when untabbing from his back. This is not visible in either mode, but to better avoid it all the same, first pull down the blue piece on his behind for some operating room, then firmly hold the top of the backpack and carefully pull down while avoiding contact with his torso. The offending edges on the torso can also be sanded down for more clearance. A less avoidable one is the silver paint on the bottom corners of the truck grill scraping from transformation as they rub against the bumper.
Optimus' smokestacks tend to rotate too easily, as there is isn't enough tension to make proper use of the tabs meant to secure them in place. The neck panel can be difficult to push into place when transforming into truck mode, usually feeling "stuck" even when it isn't and requiring the use of excessive force. Try pressing down hard on both rear ends of the panel as shownhere. The edge of the panel can also be sanded down to reduce the pressure needed. Early copies of the figure have a minormisassembly: his heel/tail light pieces are upside down and on the wrong feet; the thicker blue edge should be on the top side. This has no effect on the toy's functionality, but can be swapped by knocking out the pins if so desired. Fortunately, later releases of the figure, which includes the TakaraTomy release, feature correctly-assembled heel/tail light pieces. This can be identified by looking at the date code on his inner right leg; corrected specimens should say "42831" or higher.
A special version of this toy released atCybertron Con 2024 in China featured a box sleeve with art of his truck mode and asticker sheet for adding cartoon- or G1-toy-accurate details, but otherwise was completely identical to the regular release. It has the initial run's misassembled heels.

Somehow,Robotmasters Convoy returned.
  • Devastation Optimus Prime (Deluxe Class,2025)
Part of theStudio Series A-Level assortment for 2025, this Optimus Prime is based on his appearance inDevastation and transforms into a truck cab. He was made a Deluxe Class figure to scale with the concurrently releasedStudio Series '86Devastator. His chest features paint operations to emulate the game's cel-shaded artwork. He includes an energon axe with a built-in slash effect (mimicking the cartoon smear effect applied to melee weapons in-game) and an unpainted but removable Matrix of Leadership, which can be tabbed into slots in his fists so it can be held without the need for opening hands. The axe can be stored via a slot behind his cab in truck mode or on either of the diagonal slots on his back in robot mode. Optimus requires very mild assembly, as he comes packaged with his smokestacks detached.
If one chooses, the smaller Ion Blaster from theLegacy UnitedG1 Universe Optimus Prime can be wielded by this figure. He is also compatible with any version of theEarthrise trailer or its tanker trailer equivalent.
Unfortunately, the grey/silver stripes are not present in truck mode due to the transformation scheme.

Age of the Primes

(thumbnail)
Star Of The Stars Of The Stars
  • Star Optimus Prime (Titan Class,2025)
The Titan Class forAge of the Primes is "Star Optimus Prime," a full, proper update of the originalStar Convoy figure, turning into a large truck with a wheeled cab and treaded trailer and a base almost identical to the design of the original, with a deco based on the2005 reissue. He serves as the line's representation of theThirteenth Prime. He comes packaged with a rifle evoking the design of the original's "Galaxy Bomber," as well as a turret that converts into a blaster, 2 removable pairs of shoulder turrets, and a "sword hilt" adapter doohickey resembling theSilver Matrix included with theGenerations Selects iteration ofStar Convoy, all 5 mm port compatible. The rifle and turret/blaster can combine with the hilt to form a longer rifle, reproducing the "Big Bang Cannon" configuration of theSelects figure. A blue energon bullet (labeled as an "ammo clip" in the product description) is included that can clip into the side of the gun, in homage to the bounteous bullet casings flying inBan Magami's originalTV Magazineillustrations.[34] The bullet is undocumented in the instructions, and doesn't attach to 5 mm gun barrels or 3 mm blast effect nodes. The hilt/Matrix is stored in the back of one of the legs when not in use, while the guns are simply attached to the roof of the trailer. Like most past Titans, Star Optimus Prime also includes multipleFire Blast effects, though he comes with more sets than others. The hilt can connect to any of them and be wielded by Optimus as a flaming sword. Lastly, the figure comes with a small Zodiac orb that serves as hisArtifact, and is accordingly marked with his personal emblem. The Zodiac can store in his chest as seen inThe Battlestars story pages. The hilt can be used as a dais to center the otherwise-dwarfed Zodiac within the chest cavity.[35]
As with the original figure, Star Optimus Prime comes with aMicromaster version ofHot Rod and aMicro Trailer to transport him. The vehicle's cab can be separated to reveal a pair of cannons and be attached to the roof of the trailer along with the main turret and one of the shoulder turrets to serve as a battle platform for Hot Rod resembling the battle station ofthe original Rodimus Prime toy. Hot Rod attaches securely to the turrent by hooking his legs around pegs at the bottom. This battle station, sans the turret, is meant to be added to the base mode. The Micro Trailer is labeled as "MT-13," both because it comes with the Thirteenth Prime, and about the original Star Convoy coming with the fourteenth, unnumbered entry inReturn of Convoy's assortment of Micro Trailers whose numbering stopped at MT-12.[36] The Micro Trailer can store inside one of the figure's legs. Similar to the original toy, Hot Rod can sit in Star Optimus's chest cavity (easily cohabitating with the Zodiac), though it can't be fully closed up unless Hot Rod is in vehicle mode. A "tread unit" intended to be a new version ofRoller's "Micro Carrier" form is also included in the form of the 2-piece,A.I.R. Lock-compatible, ramp assembly for the base mode, which can store on the back of the legs. The Micro Carrier is intended to act as the primary home of the larger turret and features a spinning gimmick for that purpose. In the intended base mode configuration, Star Optimus's arm blocks the turret from spinning freely, but the arm can easily be moved out of the way.
Star Optimus Prime has a minormisassembly - in many specimens, the clear plastic chest windows are not fully pressed flush into the chest cavities, leaving visible gaps at the corners. This can be fixed by unscrewing the clear plastic piece and maneuvering the corners better into position.
Notably, Star Optimus Prime is smaller than his Titan Class predecessors, standing at a mere 15 inches. This coincides with the price decrease of Titans from $199.99 USD to $149.99 USD.

Timelines (2025)

(thumbnail)
He's the really useful engine we adore!
  • Timelines Optimus Prime / Timelines Starscream (2025)
Timelines Optimus Prime is a Deluxe-sized figure based onGuido Guidi's unused design for the character inHearts of Steel (minus the trailer/rear car), which would later make its first on-panel appearance inInfestation 2. Optimus Prime transforms from a robot into a steam locomotive of original design, and comes packaged withStarscream.
The roof of Optimus' cab, which needs to be detached for transformation, can attach to either of his forearms to function as a shield. Additionally, while not documented in the figure's instructions, the shield is also designed to plug into the left fist via a key connection.[38] Meanwhile, the train mode's smokestack, which also needs to be detached, can unfold into a blaster he can hold. The photo featured to the side erroneously has the smokestack attached to the figure's train mode in blaster mode.
