Grand Galvatron (グランドガルバトロンGurando Garubatoron) is the deranged power fantasy ofGalvatron's twisted mind. Inspired by and envious of the tremendous power ofUnicron, Galvatron envisions an upgrade for himself that would be unstoppable—though it would have to be built out of the dead bodies of his own troops and possibly even the destroyed husk of the entire planetEarth orCybertron. This does not bother Galvatron. At all.

Galvatron eventually managed to make this dream a reality, though it took a different form than the one envisioned; usingCyclonus's body as a proxy, he uses four other Transformers to create Grand Galvatron.

After surviving the destruction ofCybertron and reclaiming leadership of the Decepticons, Galvatron sent his forces on a campaign to plunder energy all across the galaxy. His true schemes remained a mystery to all those around him, but eventuallyScorponok realized that he planned to incorporate the Earth into his system.

Eventually, Galvatron revealed to his most trusted warrior,Sixshot, that he intended to use the energy to turnEarth into his new Unicron-sized body and become Grand Galvatron. He also revealed to Sixshot that such a body would require parts from his most powerful and skilled warriors, Sixshot included. This didn't sit well with Sixshot (gee, wonder why), who betrayed Galvatron and left him to battle theAutobotHeadmasters alone. Galvatron lost the battle and was buried alive beneath an iceberg by the Headmasters'Head Formation. WhenCyclonus came to visit his former master's grave,Grand Galvatron Chapter the disembodied spirit ofGalvatron IIRuination Chapter, Part One seized the chance and took over Cyclonus's body. Together, the two travelled to theTriple Z Point, planning on usingUnicron as the basis of Grand Galvatron. Unicron, obviously apprehensive about this plan, gave another option: he summoned three malicious Transformers—Thrust,Breakdown, andRoller—from across the multiverse and gave them new bodies that could combine with Cyclonus. The final component was created fromStarscream when he showed up to beg for a new body. Unlike the others, his new body was stuck in a half-living, half-dead form to assure loyalty.

With his new troops, Unicron sought to have the six conquerCybertron, but Galvatron defied his demands and set out to conquer for himself as the newly born Combiner Haunt Leader Grand Galvatron.Grand Galvatron Chapter

Arriving on Cybertron, Grand Galvatron was shocked to have his limbs removed by an invisible force courtesy ofTrailbreaker and reverted into Galvatron and Cyclonus. The group combined into Grand Galvatron again upon reachingVector Sigma's chamber, where they were met with the Autobot combinerSky Reign, whose force field and assorted weaponry gave them some trouble. Galvatron's ghostly existence allowed his combined form to see through Sky Reign'sholographic tricks and come close to victory, only to have the Autobot spring back up from near-defeat and bite into Grand Galvatron, causing him to cry out for aid.Sky Reign Chapter Upon the arrival ofMegaempress, Grand Galvatron split up as his components scrambled in fear of the Decepticon empress and her4 Guards.Megatronia Chapter

Though Galvatron II left his body, Cyclonus remained able to form the basis of Grand Galvatron and convinced his allies to combine with him again to stop Unicron from making Cybertron his new body. Together with the other combiners, Grand Galvatron distracted Unicron long enough forBaldigus to separate him from Cybertron. Unite Warriors Grand Galvatron is made up ofTactician Cyclonus as the torso andGhost Starscream,Curse Armada Thrust,Zombie War Breakdown, andWandering Roller as limbs. The deco of Cyclonus's torso mode more closely adheres to the appearance of theoriginal Galvatron toy. While the box,included story, and instructions have an official limb configuration for Grand Galvatron, using Wandering Roller as the right arm with his toes folded up in his leg configuration allows for Cyclonus's blaster to be mounted on the forearm, rather than precariously positioned on Starscream's wing.

The set included acollector coin.

Grand Galvatron was released as aTakaraTomy Mall exclusive, rather than as a retail release.

A tiny Grand Galvatron figurine was to be included withCM's Corporation'sBrave-Goukin "Excel Suit" toy. It was displayed in unpaintedprototype form at various conventions, but the whole set went unreleased due to CM's Corporation's bankruptcy.

Notes

• In theOmni Productions dub, while showing his plans to Sixshot, Galvatron proudly proclaims, "This isUnicorn!" Sixshot reacts with a hilariously exaggerated "Whoaaaa!" Apparently, a member of the dubbing team found out aboutUnicron and tried (unsuccessfully) to tie the two concepts together.
• The Grand Galvatron plan might be considered the logical endpoint of Galvatron's trend ofplanetary engines in the Generation 1 cartoon—in addition to their appearances in "Carnage in C-Minor" and "The Rebirth", an aborted plotline from "Fight or Flee" involved planetary engines being built onParadron in order to turn the planet into a mobile fortress.
