"How about Green Meanie?"

Constructicon Maximus is one of four ancientCombiner robots chosen to guard theSuper Energon pools deep withinCybertron. He and his peers were awakened from countless years of stasis byMegatron whenSuperion Maximus'sbrother was destroyed by the Decepticon leader.

He and his friendBruticus Maximus are quite willing to abandon their duty to follow a strong leader whom they believe represents Cybertron's future, a Decepticon-dominated future. Constructicon Maximus is the hot-headed and obnoxious part of the duo.

He is the combined form of theConstruction Team:

"Ten thousand years will give you such a crick in the neck!"

WhenMegatron destroyed Superion Maximus's dormant brother, he unlocked the living seal on the Super Energon pool deep withinCybertron and awakened the remaining Combiners. While Superion Maximus was aghast at his brother's destruction, the Decepticon combiners were merely curious about who had managed to reactivate them. Megatron declared that the Super Energon was his, and that he was the master of all Decepticons.Ambition

He stoleMotormaster's head!

Constructicon Maximus stated they had been waiting for the day a strong ruler would come and claim the Super Energon. Although he hesitated when the newly transformed Galvatron ordered him to hunt down his fellow guardian, Superion Maximus, he did so only for a moment. He offered Superion another chance to join them alongside Galvatron, but finally accepted him as an enemy when he refused. Superion confronted the two Decepticons, reminding them that they'd protected the Super Energon together for millions of years, and asking them why they letone Transformer have control of it all. The two merely replied that Galvatron was now their master, and that he represented the future of Cybertron.Wishes Later, the two combiners flew into space with the Decepticons to battle Superion Maximus and his new Autobot comrades. Constructicon Maximus was eager to double-team his old friend again, butOmega Supreme entered the fight to battle Bruticus Maximus, evening the score.Galvatron!

First I build 'em, then I knock 'em down!

WhenSix Shot pinpointed an Autobot signal on the planet's surface, Galvatron sent Constructicon Maximus and Bruticus Maximus out to investigate. They arrived at the crash site of theMiranda II and drew out the Autobots who were in hiding. Constructicon Maximus was in the middle of menacing an Autobot flunky in hisWideload crane mode whenKicker andArcee arrived. They knocked the combiner's component over completely and used him as a ramp. Enraged, Constructicon Maximus followed the Earth punk, but he and the Decepticons ultimately failed to keep Kicker from opening a hole in the energon cloud around the planet, letting Optimus Prime return to Cybertron. Constructicon Maximus was driven away by the Autobot cavalry.Break Through

Constructicon and Bruticus were given avirtual chance to even the score against Superion in an Autobot training simulation. They triumphed over Superion Maximus two-against-one, but were pounded into the mat by their next opponent, Optimus Supreme.Distribution

Back in reality, the Combiners followed Optimus Prime and his Autobots on their way to rendezvous withWing Saber's underground resistance. The Omega Train After Optimus disappeared in an explosion while fighting Galvatron, Constructicon andScorponok were summoned to dig out the debris Prime had fallen under, so Galvatron could be sure of his enemy's death. Optimus hadn't expired quite yet, and with the help of several reinforcements, drove back the Decepticons once more.Decepticon Army The fight with the Autobots carried over the planet, until Constructicon Maximus and the other Decepticons successfully cornered Optimus Prime and the other leaders of the Autobots in a box canyon. Things looked grim, untilPrimus awoke and remotely super-charged Prime's Combination Spark, making him strong enough to combine again with Omega to form Optimus Supreme. Constructicon Maximus was then taken out by Optimus Supreme's daring new pirouette maneuver...or something.Ironhide Team He recovered as the Autobots attempted to remove the energon gas from Cybertron's surface.Formidable

Constructicon Maximus later battled withLandmine while Galvatron and Six Shot were fighting over the Super Energon. Apparently willing to battle with a handicap, Constructicon chose to grapple with Landmine in hissmaller, individual robot mode instead of combined. Well, it didn't work, and he was forced to retreat from battle.Galvatron Terror He continued the fight with the Autobots on Cybertron as Galvatron began to grow to the size of Unicron.Destructive Power

Dignified death, being held down.

Constructicon Maximus eventually paid for his treachery when a vengeful Superion Maximus attacked both Decepticon combiners. Surprised by the Autobot combiner's ferocity, both Decepticons were caught off-guard at first, until they over-confidently held him down, which proved to be their downfall. Superion launched all of his limbs at Constructicon Maximus, pinning him against a wall, as Superion's central componentStorm Jet crushed the Decepticon combiner's spark, killing him.

After Bruticus Maximus managed to destroy the Autobot's limbs, Superion MaximusPowerlinxed with Constructicon Maximus's limbs and attacked the confused Bruticus, piercing his spark and causing a massive explosion which destroyed the remaining Decepticon.Spark

"Devastator Maximus" didn't sound cool enough.
  • Buildron (Multi-pack, 2004)
  • ID number:EX-01
  • Release date:November 17, 2004
  • Accessories: 2 energon claws, 2 energon clamps, 4 Decepticon energon stars
Buildron is the combined form ofScavenger,Bonecrusher,Gren,Long Haul, andScrapper. Scavenger forms the torso, and the other four are interchangeable as limbs; the default position has Bonecrusher and Gren as the left and right legs (resepctively), and Long Haul and Scrapper as the left and right arms (respectively). The smaller robots' energon weapons form the combined mode's hands and feet.
All five components have various differences from theHasbro versions; consistent across all of them is that Buildron's components use a darker clear-blue "super energon" plastic. (See the individual components' pages for more details on each toy's differences.)
Buildron has the same joint connectors as theSuperion Maximus andBruticus Maximus mold-sets, allowing for mixing and matching of limbs across the three teams.
All five members of Buildron were only available in theTakaraSuper Link toyline as part of aToys"R"Usexclusive multi-pack.
This mold set was used to makeClassicsDevastator.

  • Team ID number:C5
  • Bonecrusher (Energon Class, 2005)
  • Team ID number:C4
  • Duststorm (Energon Class, 2005)

  • Sledge (Energon Class, 2005)
  • Team ID number:C1
  • Wideload (Energon Class, 2005)
  • Team ID number:C3
For hisHasbroEnergon release, Constructicon Maximus could only be assembled by buying all five components separately. Each one has some deco differences from the Takara releases, with the common change being the addition of the gear-shaped "Powerlinx" stamp on each toy.
However, the team was split up, withSteamhammer,Sledge andDuststorm released in the sixth wave ofEnergon product, whileWideload andBonecrusher were released in the eighth and final wave of "Energon Class" toys. This unfortunately led to many consumers having an incomplete Constructicon Maximus for many months, with thetail-ender phenomenon leading many to worry about ever getting the last two at all.

Notes

  • Constructicon Maximus'scharacter model in theEnergon cartoon has a recurring error in which the scoop that forms his left "shoulder pad" is either misplaced, misconnected, or just missing.
  • Like the other twoEnergon "Maximus" combiners, the five component robots of Constructicon Maximus are made from only threesculpts: a central Deluxe torso, and two Basic limbs with two color schemes each. According toHasbro representatives atBotCon 2005, this was done because the budget for the tail-end ofEnergon allowed for only nine-to-ten new sculpts, so they had the choice of two groups of five, or three groups of three. They went with the latter.
  • Even though his individual components are all named after Generation 1Constructicons for the Japanese market release, the gestalt itself is named "Buildron" (the Japanese Generation 1 name for "Constructicon") rather than "Devastor" (the Japanese name for Generation 1Devastator), most likely because "Devastor" had already been the Japanese market name forArmadaScavenger. Coincidentally, this is mirrored by his Hasbro counterpart, which is named "Constructicon Maximus" (after the Generation 1 team) rather than "Devastator Maximus", unlikeSuperion Maximus andBruticus Maximus, who are named after the Generation 1 gestalts they homage.
