Before we go crazy, before we explode, there's something 'bout me, baby, you got to know.

His idle is a little rough, daddy-o, but his carb's in the right place.Big Daddy (akaDaddy-O) is the leader of theAutobotHot Rod Patrol. He might be "Big Daddy" to the younger cats on the patrol, but he's really a fairly newMicromaster, whose main program loop hasn't fully optimized itself yet. He doesn't always dig what the brass are saying, and sometimes he just splits and does his own thing.

On the other hand, this Yank tank is older than his years. He ain't just playing the leader bit; he'd give his last drop of go-juice for the patrol, and he's hep to the royal shaft theMicromasters so often get from the big boys. With a few years and a little experience he'd be one of the best there is.

That... is Big Daddy. When they say immovable force meets irresistible object, or rock and a hard place, that's all him.

Who knew 1957 Chevy Bel Airs were around on Cybertron several million years ago?

Big Daddy was among the hundreds of Micromasters created by the Autobots andDecepticons millions of years after the launch of theArk. While inLittle Iacon, he befriended Runner, who later became the Decepticon known asBarricade. Big Daddy, along with theHot Rod Patrol, was selected to join the Autobots. He and his team helped theMonster Truck Patrol recoverRoadbuster, but clashed with his former friends in the DecepticonRace Track Patrol in the battle that ensued. Big Daddy succeeded in evacuating Roadbuster, but team memberCrunch was killed in the process.

Upon returning toIacon, Big Daddy angrily confrontedUltra Magnus andFortress Maximus. After storming out, he picked a fight withSidetrack andSunrunner, avoiding a brawl only whenHydraulic intervened. The confrontation helped Big Daddy realize that the Autobot/Decepticon war wasn't the Micromasters' to fight, and he took off for Little Iacon with his team.

Rebel without a cause. Or brain diameter, apparently.

Driving through theWastelands, Big Daddy and the Hot Rod Patrol ran straight into the Race Track Patrol, who had just deserted the Decepticons. A fight loomed, but was prevented by the arrival ofFalcon andFlanker and their pursuers, a group of vampiricInsecticons.Destined for Nothing The Micromasters were heavily outmatched, but were saved from certain doom whenGroundshaker arrived with his ATV, driving off the Insecticons. Groundshaker took Big Daddy and his charges toCountdown's base, where he tried to recruit them for a mysterious mission. Big Daddy and his team declined, and continued on their way to Little Iacon. Once there, Big Daddy met withRoadhandler at an underground bar. Roadhandler chided Big Daddy for leaving the Autobots, and challenged him to a race. Big Daddy took an early lead, but Roadhandler's experience led him to victory. The Gray Race After the race, Big Daddy got in another fight, this time withRoad Hugger, but the scuffle was interrupted by another Insecticon raid. The Hot Rod Patrol fled back to Iacon, hoping to enlist the aid of the Autobots, but were denied access toAutobase by Sidetrack and Sunrunner. As they left,Stakeout told them that they werepersona non grata with Magnus, prompting them to go to Countdown for help.Recipe for Hate

While Countdown stormed the Decepticon base, Big Daddy and his team snuck into it via oil-disposal tunnels and freed the Micromasters imprisoned by the Insecticons. After battling their way throughRansack andBarrage, they ran straight into Barricade and the Race Track Patrol. While the rest of the team engaged the Decepticons, Big Daddy headed for the command center and saved Countdown from being crushed byShockwave's severed head. Big Daddy and the rest of the freed Micromasters accompanied Countdown to a battle between the Autobots and Decepticons, and convinced them to lay down arms by informing them thatSkystalker had engineered the whole thing. As the Decepticons retreated, Big Daddy tried to console a dying Sidetrack, who cursed him with his last breath. Countdown tried to have Big Daddy calm the restless crowd of Micromasters, but Big Daddy rejected his grand plans, as well as those of the Autobots and the Decepticons.

Big Daddy left the battlefield, vowing to find something more than constant war, toil and death... on his own.Victims of the Revolution

A Big Daddy hailed fromPrimax 302.06 Gamma.Ask Vector Prime, 2015/09/20 He was one of countless Transformers pulled from his timestream to engage in the death-duels of theCauldron deep inside the shatteredUnicron. He escaped this fate in the jail break set byTrailbreaker andSilverbolt.Escape

Presumably, he was safely returned to his timeline or universe of origin. Because he's that awesome.

Marvy, man. Fab. Far out.

Jazz (in hisAction Master body) introducedOptimus Prime to Big Daddy, as well as the rest of the Hot Rod Patrol. Prime agreed that they were a "sharp-looking bunch," but he wanted to know if they could transform. A voice which is likely Big Daddy's answered, "You bet we can! We're Micromasters!" The Hot Rod Patrol and theConstruction Patrol were then faced byScorponok advancing menacingly upon them. As the Decepticon began to cross a suspension bridge, the Autobots destroyed it, sending Scorponok tumbling down.Hot Rod and Construction Patrol commercial

What am I rebelling against? Lack of articulation, mostly.
  • Hot Rod Patrol (Micromaster Patrol,1990)
Released in the seventh and final year of theoriginalTransformers toyline in the US (sixth and non-final year in Europe),Micromaster Big Daddy is a tiny robot that transforms into a tiny black and orange modified1957 Chevrolet Bel Air hardtop hot rod. While the rest of his team also have large rear wheels, the rear of Big Daddy's vehicle mode is large and raised, making his rear wheels look especially huge.
Big Daddy isgang-molded with his teammateGreaser, sharing the same plastic colors.
He was only available as part of theHot Rod Patrol set, along withGreaser,Hubs, andTrip-Up.

  • Hot Rod Team (Micro Transformer Team,1991)
  • ID number:C-362
  • Accessories: Micro Trailer #2
"Grease" was also released inTakara'sFight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers line, during theReturn of Convoy year, with no notable physical changes from the Hasbro release.
Like the Hasbro toy, he was only available in a complete set with his teammates, but this release includedMicro Trailer #2, plus a sticker sheet with extra optional decals to add to your Micromasters.

  • Big Daddy (Deluxe Class,2008)
  • Accessories: Left & rightmissile launchers, 2 missiles, AutobotCybertron-style Cyber Key
  • Known designers:Joe Kyde (deco artist)
TransformersBig Daddy doubles asEarth Wars Big Daddy.
Transformers:AllSpark Power Big Daddy is aredeco ofCybertronDownshift, transforming into a muscle car that combines elements from various 1970s era muscle and pony cars, and with an orange and black color scheme as anhomage to theGeneration 1Micromaster of the same name. In either mode, inserting aCyber Key into a flip-up slot in his rear window springs open a claw from the car's grill. He comes with two large spring-loaded missile launchers, which can peg via5 mm post on his vehicle side-panels/robot legs, or clip onto his shoulders. He comes with a clear-red Cybertron-style Cyber Key.
This mold suffers from adesign flaw: Even though his head has aswivel joint, it's rendered useless because the ridges on his chest (the air vents invehicle mode) get in the way in both directions.
This toy was aWalmartexclusive in the US, and a The Warehouse exclusive inNew Zealand. It was originally intended to be released in the2008Universe toyline[2] as Generation 1 Big Daddy proper, but got shifted to the live-action movie line to meet theincredible demand for more movie-branded product. The original Big Daddy wouldn't appear in this body until theTransformers: Earth Wars game, fifteen years later.
This toy was alsorepurposed asShattered GlassBig Daddy.

  • Trip-Up & Autobot Daddy-O (Micromaster,2020)
  • Hasbro ID number:WFC-E3
  • TakaraTomy ID number:ER EX-03
  • TakaraTomy release date:May 30, 2020
  • Known designers:Ken Christiansen (concept artist)
Part of the first wave ofEarthrise Micromaster two-packs, "Daddy-O" (presumably renamed fortrademark reasons) transforms from robot to vehicle, once again an unlicensed approximation of a '57 Chevy. He can combine with his pack-in partnerTrip-Up to form a weapon, though their designs mean both can be wielded independently as smaller guns if one wishes.
In Japan, Trip-Up and Daddy-O were released as aTakaraTomy Mall exclusive.
This figure was redecoed intoWindstorm.

Notes

  • If that's Big Daddy speaking in the first commercial, it sounds like his voice actor miiiiiight beMichael McConnohie.
  • Big Daddy's name may be an homage toBig Daddy Don Garlits, considered the father of drag racing, or car designerEd "Big Daddy" Roth, who used a veryfamiliar looking car to promote his shop.
  • Along with his teammates, Big Daddy's Japanese name, "Grease", is likely a pop culture reference, this time to the filmGrease.
