SDK Question
Would it be worth mentioning how the SDK has stuff for Nintendo 64 hardware?

- I'm thinking the reason the Gamecube service disk can detect N64 controllers is because Nintendo possibly used N64 controllers when working on the gamecube when it was in development. The Gamecube controller layout would have not been complete when work on the Gamecube started. Just a theory? --Vectrex (talk) 22:37, 27 October 2013 (EDT)

3D?
If you search online you will find out the gamecube was planned to have 3d and the hardware for it is still inside the gamecube but is unused. Wiki material?SamuelEarl666 10:53 21 February 2012 (EST)
- Yes, Luigi's Mansion was developed with 3D in mind.[1]Here's the reason why there's nothing interesting to be found on the Wiki about it. The penetration simply never existed for it sadly in 2001 and no other game was developed with such a feature in mind. The Gamecube however did secretly go to market with this[2]. Would be interesting to note but there's no games compatible with it (and Luigi's Mansion is the only one that was ever developed with it in mind or ever used the feature).—The preceding unsigned comment was added byZestyLemon (talk •contribs)
Different Internal Firmware Revisions?
I have two Gamecubes (NTSC-U) and one shows a Red colored "NO DISC" and has a serial number of DS10XXXXXXX and my other Gamecube shows a Purple colored "NO DISC" and has a serial number of DS12XXXXXXX. Is this even worth mentioning? They both have the Digital A/V out so they are both DOL-001. Does anybody else know anything about this? -DarkLeach7 02:19 15 July 2012 (PST)
- Way late, but yes. There are other differences. In early GC models (like the one I had), the "PRESS START" text when a game disc is detected is purple in early versions of the BIOS. The most common BIOS, AFAIK, has this text red. If your BIOS has red text for that, it likely was for models without progressive A/V output. Progressive Scan Screens in PAL games
Is it considered unused content when PAL Gamecube games prompt for 480p, only by detecting an NTSC console? Which isn't possible without hacking or devices like Freeloader. Since the component cable works on PAL consoles, it's not unused (just a presumably unsupported/undocumented leftover) when such messages appear that way.Theclaw (talk) 09:18, 8 April 2015 (EDT)

- Only add it if the game did not receive an NTSC release. A lot of games were probably designed to detect the console region and adjust things accordingly (even though the disc itself is not directly compatible with multiple regions) to make localization easier. Hacking the game/console to identify as a different region and thus run the corresponding code isn't really all that noteworthy (again, unless the game wasnot released in a particular region, as that obviously renders the alternate regional code/data unused). This is the same reasoning behind rule #8here, which should probably be expanded to cover things like this as well. --BMF54123 (talk) 18:56, 5 July 2015 (EDT)

Restore GameCube Ambience / Famicom Disk System Boot Sound

- I agree, it fits the content of TCRF perfectly and shouldn't have been removed. Memory cards
I'd like some clarification on the largest memory card a standard GameCube can recognize, and what devices provide it. The TCRF article says the DOT-005 Memory Card Emulator supports up to 4091 blocks, but theinstruction sheet lists a maximum of 2043 blocks. While I also found a BIOS picture showing4027 blocks, it doesn't describe how that was achieved. To my knowledge the Dolphin emulator allows at most 2043 blocks.Theclaw (talk) 23:31, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

- So based on the BIOS on my silver GameCube (which uses v1.1), that ambient tune you hear in the system menu doesn't have the fade in/out effect for each note like in v1.0.Sammyrms1 (talk) 01:33, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
Memory card icons changing with game progress
According to the memory card guidelines in the GameCube SDK, the save icon can change with game progress. Was this feature ever utilized? I can't seem to find any mention online anywhere nor have I come across any games or sprite sheets where that's the case.
