The Game GearMega Man is a mishmash of mainlyMega Man 5 content, some parts ofMega Man 4, and a stage fromMega Man 2. It also has bouncing item drops, something not seen in any otherMega Man title.

Unused Music

Game Over (ID07)

The "Game Over" theme in its entirety, which some may recognize from the 4-5 seconds heard in-game as Wave Man's theme fromMega Man 5. Although Wave Man is in this game, his stage uses Gravity Man's theme. It can also be heard in-game by freezing addressDFED at the Game Over screen.

Unused Song 1 (ID09)

The first theme for Dr. Cossack's Citadel fromMega Man 4.

Unused Song 2 (ID0E)

A version of the stage select theme fromMega Man 4.

Unused Room

A screenshot of the unused room in a VRAM viewer.

Each map is directly ripped from various NES titles, then receives a graphical overhaul to be displayed on the Game Gear's 12-bit RGB color display. Because Mega Man teleports to the second Wily stage when entering the boss corridor in Wily 1 (a port of Quick Man's stage fromMega Man 2), the boss room isn't seen during normal gameplay. Using position cheats, it is possible to enter the next room which contains collision, but no graphics (or broken graphics depending on what cheats are used).

Unused Damage Values

Through hacking, it is possible to bring the Water Wave and Rain Flush weapons into the first four stages. Each boss (including Wave Man himself!) takes 4 damage from the Water Wave and only 1 damage from the Rain Flush weapon. Oddly enough, Bright Man cannot take damage from Rain Flush, as the weapon is broken in several sections in his stage. Using the Flash Stopper against Bright Man causes the game to go on a literal LSD trip with flashing colors. A video covering this section can be found below:
