Doctor Who: Lost in Time is a licensed2022Doctor Who video game released for iOS and Android byEastside Games andBigfoot Gaming. It was only released in a "soft launch phase" on27 June 2022, with its full release being8 March2023.[1]
The game was broken down into chapters with individual titles. The narrative, involving a mysterious temporal anomaly messing withthe Doctor's memories, featured multiple Doctors andcompanions. However, it was not a conventional multi-Doctor story: the different Doctors never meet, withK9, newly-fitted with avortex manipulatorcircuit, acting as a go-between.
It was an idle game, meaning gameplay consisted of little more than accumulating experience points via repetitive actions to unlock the next cutscene. The game also featured limited-time "Events" and "Season Passes", with varying time limits and even featuring their own shorter storylines.
The initial storyline leading up to the revelation thatOmega had disrupted the various timelines and displaced the various Doctors and companions randomly, lasted up to Episode 40. From then on, the game consisted of several new stories lasting 5 Episodes each, each with an overarching title. Starting at Episode 101, each 5-episode storyline was teased in a "Lineup Preview" given in the Inbox in the Settings.

Worldbuilding[[edit] |[edit source]]
- Kyfred Gems are "the rarestcrystals in theuniverse".
- Kerblam Boxes are products produced byKerb!am, and includeFree Kerblams,Bronze Kerblams,Silver Kerblams,Gold Kerblams, andPlatinum Kerblams.
- During her mission to take control of theOsterhagen Project,Martha Jones goes by "Greyhound Six".
- Judging by the architecture, after arriving inAtlantis, Martha initially believes that she is "somewhere inGreece".
- When Martha asks him if the Doctor is married, he begins to reply "Not for hundreds of… not now, no!".
- Liz Shaw believes thatdeserts too hot forhumans would make good habitats for theSea Devils' "land-dwelling cousins".
- The Doctors and companions useperception filters to move unnoticed in thePanopticon.
- Big Ben is visible in the background when theTwelfth Doctor meets withVastra.
- In Vastra's time, a Silurian city existed whereLondon now stands.Hyde Park was "a bad part of town".
- Jenny Flint is busy interviewing suspects for another case.
- Leela knows aboutSontarans' weakness.
- Yasmin Khan learned "basicforensic science in her firstpolice courses".
- The Twelfth Doctor describes his symbiotic nuclei as his "Time Sense".
- A few times the Time Lord characters' consciousnesses are jumping around between different points in their timeline, which is a blurring of the Time Sense, called atime echo:
- The Twelfth Doctor briefly callsRory Williams "Jamie" andRiver Song "Jo", and also finds himself put in mind of a point when Jo had been hypnotised bythe Master, necessitating the use of aMetebelis crystal to free her.
- The Third Doctor callsPetronella Osgood "Jo" and later calls Jo Grant "Susan".
- Missy similarly calls Osgood "Miss Grant" and "Lizzy", andKate Stewart "Brigadier".
- A few times the Time Lord characters' consciousnesses are jumping around between different points in their timeline, which is a blurring of the Time Sense, called atime echo:
Story notes[[edit] |[edit source]]
- InThe Right Place At The Right Time, it is explicitly suggested byClara Oswald that she was able to remember hersplinters' lives as she states that her memories of crossingthe Doctor's time stream are "a bit blurry now", but is still able to refer back to her experience asOswin Oswald, using her inside knowledge ofDalek psychology to thwart another Dalek. This makes the story of very few to make this suggestion.
- Furthermore, two different Claras are seen crossing paths in that very section of the game.
- Several of the Episodes' titles in the game are references, either coincidental or on purpose:
- Episode 1 is entitledLost in Time, which is the name of the game itself.
- Episode 8, which features aSea Devil, is entitledA Deep One.
- The Deep Ones are antediluvian, fish- or batrachian-like sea-dwelling humanoids from the works ofH. P. Lovecraft. The novelAll-Consuming Fire previously implied that Lovecraft's Deep Ones and the Sea Devils were one and the same.
- Episode 20 is entitledTwo's Company, which has several meanings, such as being 1936British comedy film, a 1952 American musical, anAustralian variety series running from 1959 to 1961, aBritish TV sitcom which ran from1975 to1979, a 1961 music album, a1974 jazz album, a2006 music album a home decoration company started up in2009, a musical symphony collection from2013, a romantic novel from2017 and the title of the2023Once and Future audio storyTwo's Company.
- Episode 23 is entitledGame of Clones, which is a reference to the franchiseGame of Thrones.
- Episode 25 is entitledSeek, Locate, Exterminate!, a phrase often used by Daleks when they're hunting someone down to kill them.
- Episode 35 is entitledShould Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot, which is a lyric in theNew Year's Eve related song "Auld Lang Syne". This song was also sung by theBritish andGerman soldiers in the2017Christmas SpecialTwice Upon a Time and used in the trailer for the2022New Year SpecialEve of the Daleks.
- InSkirmish in Skaro, when the Daleks andCybermen are battling, screaming their battlecries "Exterminate! Exterminate!" and "Delete! Delete!", theTenth Doctor says "Doctor! Doctor!", a reference to theRock-songDoctor Doctor byUFO. He claims it to be an80s music, despite the song being released in1974.
- Although there have been many examples of this in fan fiction since 2015, this is the first BBC-licencedDoctor Who storyline to feature Clara and Ashildr after the events ofHell Bent.
Production errors[[edit] |[edit source]]
- In Episode 28,Queen Eats Bishop, the TARDIS is accidentally laid overSarah Jane Smith andRose Tyler instead of behind them. The same mistake is repeated in Episode 82,Don't Look a Gift Horse…, in which it is laid overYoung Ace.
- The title for Episode 61 incorrectly spells the word "unauthorised" in its titleUnathorised Parking.
- The last sequence at theEndless Library of Grandle withDan Lewis andYasmin Khan was played twice, first at the end of Episode 90,Futurism in Aisle 4 and then at the beginning of Episode 91,Secret Origins.
