Thousands of years after the20th century, theSecond Doctor,Ben Jackson andPolly visited Charon during a time when humans were planning to exploit the planet's supply of water. Buried in the planet was a pan-dimensional creature kept at bay by the minds of seven aliens in suspended animation. The aliens were killed by the xenophobic human explorer and scientist ProfessorMagellan. It was stopped by the Doctor who entered the gestalt system and left it without its aggressive impulses and more like a "big pussy cat". (PROSE:Pluto[+]Loading...["Pluto (short story)"])
Behind the scenes[[edit] |[edit source]]
- Although Pluto was downgraded from full planet to "dwarf planet" in 2006, numerous stories produced prior to this date and set in Earth's future identify Pluto as a planet and Charon as its moon, suggesting that, in the Doctor Who universe at least, Pluto's planetary status was eventually restored.
- Gallifrey Macula andTardis Chasma are two geological features on Charon named after elements fromDoctor Who.
