Description:
This is a free procedural world map generator, used for generating a pixel-art world and populating it with different areas / civilizations, one pixel at a time.
It's meant as a tool for quick worldbuilding map creation- be it for tabletop RPG games (like D&D) and game masters, as inspiration for more detailed maps for artists, or just for fun.
As a visual template for worldbuilding, or as is.
Tutorial:

"Generate Land" to generate new lands!

"Generate Civs" to populate your land with civilizations...

If you want more control, you can even place civilizations exactly where you want them to start spreading from!

Play around with the settings to make different world maps- add waves, make rivers common or rare, add outlines and more!

When you're done, you can save your map by clicking "Download map" <3
Bonus:you can even edit your downloaded maps in your favorite pixel-editing software.
Here are some examples of maps I edited:

Wonderful job on this app it's amazing.
I'd like to request a feature, allowing the user to place capital cities and then have civilizations build out from there.
UPDATE:
I'm actually very stupid and realized you already have this feature in the program. This is baller as hell my dude I love this thing <3
Thank you so much for the kind comment!! I really appreciate it <3
I usually try to respond to comments faster, buuut my laptop died about two weeks ago, and then I had to buy and set up a new PC as well as other stuff (and I also procrastinated a bit afterwards... I admit!).
Apparently my motherboard and hard disk were broken, which meant that I lost some progress on this projectand some of my other projects.) The capital-placing feature as well as others were gone! I was distraught and had a panic attack, honestly :/
But not all is bad as I'm planning to send my hard disk to a data recovery lab- it's going to be very expensive, but I'm gonna get the project data back, which means I could update it more in the future :D
Either way, your comment really cheered me up. I hope you make some sick maps with my world map generator, have a great day :D
Update: I recovered my data!(Also bought a new PC since the laptop broke)
I'm poor now :D but it was worth it!
Thank you so much!! :D
Adding a replay would actually be possible, now that civilization placing is possible- but I'm not sure how many people would want this feature and my time working on this generator is limited, with it being a hobby project... so maybe someday!
In the meantime, you could record generating different civilizations and replay them, or mess with the "speed" setting while generating (:
Or, alternatively, you can support my hobby projects onmy Patreon and force me to add a reply feature!!! (which I'll gladly do because I give special consideration for Patreon supporters). You can also just check out my other projects there (:
Thank you so much, I'm really glad you liked it :D
The first time it actually worked and I got to see the civilizations spreading and forming a proper map, I was pretty blown away too haha- it's definitely what inspired me to release it and continue working on it so far (: And hopefully the more settings I add, the more varied and interesting maps users can make too! If you want to see it evolve (or check out my other projects), please consider taking a look atmy profile andmaybe following me (; (:
I have been considering adding a "stamp" tool someday that'd let users stamp certain world elements on their map (kind of like in Inkarnate). Maybe users would be able to customize their stamps in the downloadable version too, so they won't be limited by the default options- but we'll see! :D
Would you be interested in a feature like that?
Not completely sure I understand but I'll try to respond to the best of my ability!
I don't think I can insert an icon from game-icons.net or have something like that, but I think having some pre-made options for buildings or terrain elements could be fun, and users could put their own pixel-art stamps in a folder in the downloadable version perhaps. Not sure if adding a heraldry stamp / generator would work with other genres besides fantasy but... maybe someday? (:
Hey, I'm really happy you enjoyed the generator!! (:
I'm... honestly not sure exactly sure how to add that right now, but other people have asked for it so I might add it someday in the future- I won't add it just yet but I am planning to update the generator every now and then, so if you follow me on Itch.io you might get notified if and when I do- alternatively, you can just check the generator again in a few month to a year lol
In the meantime, I think the closest thing to that would downloading a map with "Size Up 1" (Meaning 250x250 pixels) and editing it in paint or whichever program you wish (;
Thank you so much for the kind comment!
What do you mean with "a hierarchy of cities -> villages > countries"? (:
I'd love to give users the ability to change the minimum and maximum places of note (gray) in the future, though- and for now you can also edit maps to suite you better after downloading them, with paint or my new personal favorite pixel art software,Piskel! (or any other pixel editing software for that matter!)
thanks! it means that the number of cities is greater than the villages which are greater than the countries.
my idea was to add as for the number of civilizations the possibility of adding points of different color and number:
a bigger point for cities (instead of black points now)
a middle point for the villages, of greater number
a smaller point for smaller countries.
and if you can connect them with a line. This would make your generator more pleasant: D
Hmm... interesting idea!!
I think you mean "the number of villages is greater than cities which are greater than countries", right? (:
The next thing I wanted to add after finishing up the rivers isroads- but maybe after I do add roads I could try to add more cities and change their appearance too. Perhaps the size of the country or prevalence of a city would affect its size?
The idea with the current system is that black points are "capitals" or central hubs, while grey points can be villages or important spots- but I definitely don't mind expanding on that with future settings and additions, like you suggestion above (: I'll have to make sure it doesn't make the map look way too crowded though, haha
If you want to be notified when I update this project you can follow me onItch, regularly check / back me on thePatreon, or alternatively I could just let you know with a reply to your comment if and when this feature is added (Though I'd love to try to add it as soon as I'm done with rivers, roads and routes!)
Cheers and thanks for the suggestion!!
I added the speed & water spread difficulty settings to theworld map generator- also, therelic generator is finally up- enjoy! (:
