The spring night sky live in the planetarium
6 February 2026: The monthly After Work series continues on Friday 6 March with a screening of Oasis in Space at 17:00 and, at 18:30, the live planetarium show The Spring Night Sky. With the temperatures getting a little milder, stargazing in spring can be a great family activity, so come along to find out what to look out for in this special live planetarium show. During the show you will discover what planets can be seen, if there are any meteor showers to look out for and if there are any other special astronomical events happening. The show lasts for one hour and tickets cost 6,50 Euro per person. Alongside the planetarium shows, the exhibition is open and visitors are very welcome to explore until 20:00 free of charge and with no prior booking.

24 June 2025: On 22 July, we are inviting all educators and primary school teachers to a free information event at ESO Supernova! As part of an interactive evening, we will be presenting our educational programme in the field of early science education. Explore what your group of young learners can discover with us free of charge - and what support you can receive as an education specialist: from practical material boxes to a wide range of further training courses. In addition to exciting insights into our offers, you have the opportunity to exchange ideas and can join us on a fascinating journey through the universe in our planetarium. Participation is free of charge! However, please register here. The event starts at 17:00 and is expected to end at around 19:30. We look forward to a stimulating evening with you and a lot of valuable discussions!

Science in School: Issue 73 now available
16 June 2025: The latest issue of the free magazine Science in School is now available online. This European journal for science teachers offers up-to-date information on cutting-edge science, teaching materials, science education projects, interviews with inspiring scientists and teachers, reviews of books, and many other useful resources for science teachers. It aims to promote science teaching by encouraging communication between teachers, scientists and others involved in European science education. Winner of ESO’s Summer AstroCamp 2025 prize announced
13 June 2025: ESO and the Centre for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (CAUP) are very pleased to announce that the Summer AstroCamp 2025 prize offered by ESO will be awarded to the French student Hector Bezy-Schaller. In a highly competitive selection process, Hector emerged as the standout candidate among tens of talented applicants from around the world. Offered by ESO, the AstroCamp 2025 prize will cover Hectors’s expenses to join the camp. These comprise the camp fee, full accommodation and meals, as well as insurance and transportation to and from Porto airport. Moreover, ESO will provide all ten participants with a goodie bag, filled with items like posters, pens, and valuable information about the world's biggest telescopes.
