The Project aims are to set-up commemorative information boards at the locations in Southampton, and beyond, that were involved in the production of the Supermarine Spitfire during World War 2.
The boards will be located close to the original locations of the workshops of Supermarine, and associated companies and sub-contractors, to ensure that the memory of the work done, and the men and women involved, is not forgotten.
The project is the brainchild of Alan Matlock who was a member of the community cast of the NST Southampton City play ‘The Shadow Factory’ and active participant in the linked ‘Out of the Shadows’ Community Project. He brings a wealth of knowledge of the various dispersal and sub-contract locations in and around Southampton, working closely with ‘The Supermariners’ on this.
