Regain is about coming back from personal darkness, taking back what you lost, and to expand your world again.
The game is an idle clicker, with some linearity to tell an implicit story. The character needs mental energy to have the courage to expand their surroundings. Hang up posters, open the curtains, place plants and clean up to get there, simply by clicking around. And if they're short on mental energy, hop on the computer to get them some emotional support from friends.
Mental energy isn't an equal exchange currency. Sometimes, the cost of dealing with something is higher than expected. But they'll always bounce back, better than before.
And if the front door doesn't open up, look around for clickable objects. You may have overlooked something :)
This game was made for the Fireside Jam 2024. The theme was 'Expand'. Looking up some synonyms the idea of expanding your world stuck out to me. As someone who's dealt with mental issues, I decided to focus on the point where therapy was over and life is about to get back on track. It was a wobbly period, but one of growth and, indeed, expansion.
This is my first published game. During this game jam I learned Godot, GDScript, sprite art in Aseprite and doing foley work with my phone, recording objects around the house. I'm extremely happy with the outcome.

You're absolutely right. I was very worried about overscoping the project and biting off more than I can chew that I purposefully kept it short and simple. Before uploading, there were only trash bags at first!
I will say I hadn't considered having things take more than one click. It's an interesting thought!
