Wookiee Chieftain

AWookiee Chieftain, also known as aWookiee Elder, was aWookiee with the ability to lead and to command troops on the battlefield. Chieftains also played roles in some government issues such as battles or war. Notably, they had the right to cancel the festivities ofLife Day, the most important Wookieeholiday.^[1] At the time of theGalactic Republic, a council of venerated Elders accompanied Kashyyyk'srepresentative to theGalactic Senate onCoruscant.^[2]

Merumeru was a Chieftain at the time of theBattle of Kashyyyk and, at 250years old, was one of the youngest to have held the title.^[3] About two decades later, during theGalactic Civil War, the female WookieeOvarra acted as a Chieftain.^[4]
