Wild Space

Astrographical information

"Those systems are beyond the Outer Rim, in Wild Space. Not on any map."
Kanan Jarrus[8]

Wild Space was a region ofthe galaxy that contained unchartedplanets andstarclusters. It was located "off the edge of the map" and almost fully unmapped throughoutgalactic history. In contrast, theUnknown Regions were mapped but largely unexplored.

The mysterious realm ofMortis was located in Wild Space, as were theplanetsMulita,Teth,Indoumodo,Kalee,Thune,Pion,Agaris,Lysatra, andLira San, the originalhomeworld of theLasatspecies.

Description[]

Wild Space was a large region of unmappedstar clusters[25] containing dangerous worlds.[6] Thehumans of theCore Worlds often expressed prejudice againstsentient beings from Wild Space, even against fellow humans. For example,CommandantDeenlark of theRoyal Imperial Academy onCoruscant discriminated againstEli Vanto ofLysatra, whom he termed a "backwater yokel" from Wild Space.[18] While theUnknown Regions were mapped, it was mostly unexplored.[26]

History[]

Early history[]

TheLasathomeworld ofLira San was known to be located in Wild Space. It was separated from the rest ofthe galaxy by an implodedstar cluster. The Lasat of Lira San colonized theplanetLasan at some point before theImperial Era. Eventually, contact between Lira San and Lasan was lost. Those Lasat living on Lasan came to believe that Lira San was a fabled Lasat sanctuary.[8]Ziro theHutt had hisfatherburied on thejungle world ofTeth. Ziro also hid theHutt Council'srecords with him.[27]

Clone Wars[]

With theoutbreak of theClone Wars, a conflict that pitted theGalactic Republic against theConfederacy of Independent Systems, exploration of Wild Space slowed considerably.[12] In22 BBY,[28]Teth hosted aB'omarr Order Monastery, which the SeparatistassassinAsajj Ventress used to hideRotta, the kidnapped son ofJabba Desilijic Tiure. Several of Jabba's bounty hunters and a pair ofARF troopers tracked Ventress to the Monastery. The clones reported this toJedi GeneralMace Windu, but the bounty hunters were beheaded. As a result, theJedi KnightAnakin Skywalker and his newPadawan,Ahsoka Tano, were sent to Teth along with theclone troopers of the501st'sTorrent Company immediately after theirvictory onChristophsis in order torescue Rotta.[1] Around ayear later,[29] Ziro, Jabba's uncle, waskilled there by his estranged former loverSy Snootles, who retrieved Ziro's stolen Hutt Council records before he could sell it to the Republic.[27]

Wild Space was also known to be the location of an enigmatic planet calledMortis, which was home to a family ofForce wielders known asthe Father, theDaughter, and theSon. These three figures embodied the balance inthe Force, thelight side, and thedark side of the Force respectively. The Force wielderstried to convince Skywalker to fulfill his prophesied role as theChosen One.[4] However, their plans were upended when the Son was corrupted by the dark side; setting in motion a chain of events which led to the deaths of the three Force wielders. Their realm existed outside of the realm of normaltime andspace.[30]

Imperial Era[]

During the reign of theGalactic Empire, travelers again traversed Wild Space. Thenew government'sSurvey Corps even took an interest in the farthest reaches of uncharted space. Demand for maps of Wild Space increased as a consequence, allowingcartographers to make a decent living by producing and selling them.Auric andRhyssa Graf, a couple ofmarried interplanetaryexplorers, spent fifteenyears making maps of Wild Space until their capture byCaptainVisler Korda of theImperial Navy.[12]

Despite the increased interest in Wild Space, those who resided from it were not as well respected by some during this period.Eli Vanto and hismother andfather came from Wild Space, and Vanto in particular was not well respected for some time, despite his service to the Empire.[18]

In3 BBY,[31] the Lasat rebelGarazeb Orrelios, theSpectres rebel cell, and the LasatrefugeesChava the Wise andGron took part in a search for the legendary Lasat sanctuary of Lira San. Lira San lay in Wild Space, and could only be reached by navigating through a collapsed star cluster. After being pursued byImperial forces and a difficult trial, Orrelios managed to usedhisbo-rifle to guide the rebelstarshipGhost through the maelstrom. Chava and Gron settled on Lira San, which theydiscovered to be the original Lasat homeworld.[8]

Later, Orrelios and theMandalorian rebelSabine Wren undertook amission toThune City on the Wild Space world ofThune to recover cargo containers and ships on behalf of the rebellion. During their mission, the two came into conflict with the criminalGarbis family.[32]

Era of the New Republic and First Order[]

Following theBattle of Endor, thepirate crew ofEleodie Maracavanya seized control of theSuper Star DestroyerAnnihilator. With an ImperialNavywarship under their control, Maracavanya came to be known as the "pirate ruler of Wild Space."[33] In5 ABY,[34] Maracavanya planned to take advantage of the chaos in the wider galaxy by establishing a criminal empire in Wild Space built around individualism and greed.[33]

While searching forChewbacca, who had been captured by the Empire,Han Solo came under attack and lost contact with his wifePrincessLeia Organa on the edge of Wild Space. Later, theNew RepublicpilotsNorra Wexley andWedge Antilles traveled to the last known coordinates of Han Solo. They wereattacked byCommanderValent'sStar DestroyerScythe, but were rescued by New Republicships led byCommodoreKyrsta Agate, who had received intelligence about Valent from the mysterious Imperial source known asthe Operator.[33]

After the end of theGalactic Civil War,Garazeb Orrelios took the formerISBagent turned RebelspyAlexsandr Kallus aboard anEF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate to Lira San, where Kallus was welcomed as one of them.[35] OnMorak,Imperial remnants occupied the planet to rebuild their military forces in a bid to return to their former glory.[19]

During theFirst Order-Resistance War,GeneralLeia Organa of theResistance dispatched two of her agents,Finn andPoe Dameron, to the frontier of Wild Space on a supply mission. The two became involved in a daringtrain heist.[36]

Behind the scenes[]

Wild Space appeared in severalLegends literature and media includingStar Wars: The Old Republic,Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison, andThe Essential Atlas. The region made its firstCanonical appearance through the planetTeth in the2008 animated filmStar Wars: The Clone Wars.[1]

Pablo Hidalgo explained inRebels Recon that Wild Space lay "outside" the known map of the galaxy (in other words, 'off the edge of the map'). By contrast, the borders of theUnknown Regions were known and defined on the galactic map but the region remained unexplored.[26] This differs from Legends, where Wild Space is on the edge of the known galaxy while everything beyond the known galaxy is part of the Unknown Regions.[37]
