Tython was a terrestrialplanet located inDeep Core'sTython system that played a pivotal role in the history of theJedi Order. A verdant world that was incredibly rich inthe Force, Tython was eventually abandoned when the ever-changinghyperlanes in the region drifted away from the planet and became shrouded in myth. TheMartyrium of Frozen Tears was built byJedi there, and some Jedischolars made the case that Tython was the site of the Jedi Order'sfirst temple. During theGalactic Civil War,DoctorChelli Lona Aphra led theImperialcommanderDarth Vader to Tython'sMeridional Ice Cap to mislead him as to the location of theRebel Alliance'smain base, which was actually on theOuter Rim planetHoth.
Description[]
Tython was a verdant,[9]uninhabited,[3] terrestrialplanet[5] located in theTython system[9] inthe galaxy'sDeep Core, positioned at the coordinates K-10 on theStandard Galactic Grid.[2] It was orbited by at least twomoons, with the primary being known asAshla,[4] and was incredibly rich inthe Force.[9] Areas on its surface included theMeridional Ice Cap,[5] and a moretemperateregion.[3] Tython was home to a number of native fauna, including beasts,[10]birds,[3]butterflies,[8] and smallmammals. Tython was covered inforests,grasslands,[3] andmountains.[8]
It shared its name withTythonian pendants,[11]Tythonian Mastery Tokens,[4] andJedha City'sTythoni Square.[12]

Early history[]
The ancient Jedi built the Martyrium of Frozen Tears.
Tython played a pivotal role in the history of theJedi Order.[9] Thesacred Jedi texts contained a description of Tython's notable beasts.[10] In ancient times, the Jedi built theMartyrium of Frozen Tears in the Meridional Ice Cap.[3] Tython was eventually abandoned when the ever-changinghyperlanes in the region drifted away from the planet.[9]
Shrouded in myth, someJedischolars made the case that Tython was the location of the Jedi Order'sfirst temple,[7] although in reality, it was located on the planetAhch-To.[13] The fabled planet was thought to have troves ofholocrons anddatacards filled with Jedi wisdom from throughout the ages, and if one were to discover it, they could gain access to unmatched power.[14]
High Republic Era[]
The ancientGa'Garen Codex held in theJedi Archives mentioned the planet Tython and its primary moon, Ashla. Its mysteries had confoundedlinguists for a longtime.[15]Months after thededication of theStarlight Beacon[15] in232 BBY,[16]Jedi MasterElzar Mann consulted the Ga'Garen Codex and journeyed aboard hisJedi Vector to theIsle of Seclusion on Ashla. Mann had experienced a terribleForce vision during the aforementioned dedication, and chose the Isle as a place where he couldmeditate in solitude on what he had seen. He waded into the ocean surrounding the Isle, and eventually received a vision that directed him to the planetValo.[15] Jedi MasterHarli Cogra mentioned Elzar Mann's mission to Ashla, inChronicles of the Jedi, a document detailing the Jedi of the High Republic written in theweeks following thedestruction of Starlight Beacon[17] in230 BBY.[16]
Imperial Era[]

The Meridional Ice Cap.
During theImperial Era, the15th Deep Core Reserve Fleet operated ahyperspace interdiction checkpoint along the only known hyperspace route between theEmpress Teta system and the interior of the Deep Core.[14]
In3 ABY,[18] in an attempt to save her loved ones who were located at theRebel Alliance'sheadquarters onHoth,DoctorChelli Lona Aphra broughtImperialforces led byEmperorPalpatine'slieutenant,Darth Vader, to Tython, distracting them from discovering the location of the rebel base. Aphra took Vader to the Martyrium of Frozen Tears in the Meridional Ice Cap on Tython, where the theDark Lord and his subordinates were ambushed.[5]
At some point between 3 ABY and4 ABY,[19] the rebel and aspiring JediLuke Skywalker had acquired anAurebesh list of possible Jedi locations from the Galactic Empire, whom he assumed had destroyed and ransacked all of them. The list included Tython.[20]
New Republic Era[]

In9 ABY,[21] the former JediPadawanAhsoka Tano instructed theMandalorianDin Djarin to take theForce-sensitivechildGrogu to Tython.[6] Djarin did so, traveling to Tython and placing Grogu on theseeing stone. Grogu entered a meditative state while perched on the stone. Meanwhile, thebounty hunterBoba Fett, along with his partner,Fennec Shand, in his ship,Slave I, tracked Djarin to Tython, intent on reacquiringhis armor[8] that Djarin got fromCobb Vanth onTatooine.[22] They wereattacked byMoffGideon'sImperial forces, and after a skirmish and the destruction of Djarin's ship, theRazor Crest, thefoundling was ultimately abducted by thewarlord'sdark troopers.[8]
In21 ABY,[23] Jedi Master Luke Skywalker traveled to Tython and meditate upon the seeing stone. There, he had a vision of him onExegol where hedueled nine wraiths before theForce spirit of hisfather, Anakin Skywalker, came to his aid.[3]

A Tythonian mountain was the site of an ancienttemple that had a strong connection to the Force, though it had fallen into ruin by 9 ABY. At the top of the mountain was a seeing stone.[6]
The Meridional Ice Cap contained the underground Martyrium of Frozen Tears, which had a Force-sensitiveconfessional made of solidkyberite. The ice cap was also dotted with ancient statues of robed figures near the Martyrium's entrance.[5] The seeing stone was on the top of a hill in a scrubland area.[8]

The term "tython" originates in thesecond draft of what would becomeStar Wars: Episode IVA New Hope.[24] Tython was first mentioned in theStar Warscanon inStar Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon 36, a2015 magazine for theStar Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon series.[9] It first appeared in the2019 comic bookDoctor Aphra (2016) 40.[5] In the "Chapter 14: The Tragedy," the sixth episode ofStar Wars: The Mandalorian'ssecond season, the filming location of Tython was Rocky Peak Park in Simi Valley, California.[25]

In theStar Wars Legends continuity, Tython was first mentioned in the2002 sourcebookPower of the Jedi Sourcebook,[26] where it was the original homeworld of theJe'daii Order[27] and its successor organization, theJedi Order.[28]
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game places "Tython" predominantly in Standard Galactic Grid square, L-10 and partially in K-10, as does supportingStar Wars Legends material.[1] However, new canon maps, starting with theStar Wars Galaxy Map poster, placed it instead in grid square K-10,[29] and theOctober 13,2025[30] iteration of theStar Systems of the Galaxy appendix ofstar systems officially placed Tython in K-10 as well.[2]
