In 1983, this book's paperback edition was sold withThe Empire Strikes Back Storybook andReturn of the Jedi: The Storybook Based on the Movie in a box set titledStar Wars Treasury.[3]

Like other earlier adaptations of the film, the book includes the cut scenes ofLuke Skywalker seeing the space battle aboveTatooine as well as his meeting withBiggs Darklighter, complete with photos.
One of the full photos from the film, the one showing the Rebel starfighters approaching the Death Star, is reversed from the shot that appears in the pre-1997 cuts of the film. The storybook also switches theGold andRed Squadrons' callsigns, so thatLuke Skywalker flies asGold Five.
