Tarfful was amaleWookieechieftain andgeneral who helped defend his nativeplanetKashyyyk during theClone Wars. During the war, he led a band of Wookiees to answer a distress signal made byChewbacca, who was imprisoned on theTrandoshan hunting grounds ofWasskah. Tarfful later participated in theBattle of Kashyyyk alongside Chewbacca andJedi MasterYoda. In the wake ofOrder 66 and the rise of theGalactic Empire, Tarfful helped facilitate Yoda's escape and continued fighting against the tyranny of the Empire in the following years.
Biography[]
At some point prior to theGreat Jedi Purge, Tarfful met and befriendedJedi MasterEno Cordova, and helpedhim navigateKashyyyk to learn aboutZeffonian culture.[4]

A maleWookiee native to hisspecies'shomeworld of Kashyyyk, Tarfful served as thechieftain of the coastalcityKachirho at thetime of theClone Wars.[5] He also held therank ofgeneral among his people.[1]
Onestandard year into the war, one of Tarfful's fellow Wookiees,Chewbacca, was captured byTrandoshans and taken toWasskah to behunted for sport. There, Chewbacca managed to build a device which sent adistress signal to Kashyyyk. Upon hearing of his friend's situation, Tarfful hired thebounty huntersSugi andSeripas totransport him and a group of his most trustedwarriors to Wasskah. Once there, the chieftain and his men madequick work of the Trandoshan hunters, overpowering them and rescuing Chewbacca, as well asJediyounglingsAhsoka Tano,Jinx, andO-Mer.[6]

Tarfful defended his world from Separatist invasion.
At one point, Tarfful was captured by Trandoshan slavers who had made a deal withCountDooku,[7] but he wasrescued[8] by a squad ofclone commandos soon after.[7] Tarfful took part in theBattle of Kashyyyk alongside Chewbacca andJedi GeneralsYoda,Luminara Unduli andQuinlan Vos.[8] Aided by theGrand Army of the Republic, he led theKachirho Wookiee Militia against the invadingSeparatistdroidforces. Following the implementation ofOrder 66, Tarfful and Chewbacca helped Yoda elude theclone troopers and escape from theplanet in aWookiee escape pod.[2]
In the wake of theGalactic Empire's rise, Tarfful's anti-Imperial stance made him a wanted criminal, forcing him to take shelter in theShadowlands.[9]
In14 BBY,Saw Gerrera's rebel cell, thePartisans, agreed to helpCal Kestis and the crew of theStinger Mantis track down Tarfful, as the Wookiee chieftain was aware of information that could aid the Jedi Padawan in locating aJedi holocron containing a list of names of severalForce-sensitive children. After locating Tarfful in theShadowlands, the majority of the Partisans evacuated Kashyyyk, whilst Wookiee CommanderChoyyssyk and PartisanMari Kosan remained with Tarfful. Tarfful later provided the information Kestis was seeking upon the Padawan's return to Kashyyyk.[4]
Decades later, a picture of Tarfful was in theGalactic Explorer's Guide, a survival guide written byHondo Ohnaka andDK-RA-43.[10]
Personality and traits[]

Tarfful was a fierce warrior.
Tarfful was a massive Wookiee who stood at 2.32meters (7feet, 7 inches),[3] was covered withdark brown fur, had blueeyes,[2] and worearmor around his shoulders and chest. He demonstrated great loyalty and trust amongst his warriors and allies, traits that were held in high honor in Wookiee culture.[11]
He worked closely with Chewbacca during the Clone Wars and was considered a dear friend byJedi Master Yoda.[1] Although an ally of the Republic, Tarfful was primarily focused on the governing of Kashyyyk.[12] With the dawn of the Galactic Empire, Tarfful would fight against the regime and become a symbol of Wookiee resistance.[4]
Skills and abilities[]
Tarfful was a powerful Wookiee chieftain and general, known for his leadership and military tactics. He was skilled in both armed and unarmed combat.[3] Tarfful fought with aKashyyyk long-gun[2] and could also overwhelm opponents such as Trandoshans in hand-to-hand combat.[6]

Tarfful was played byMichael Kingma inRevenge of the Sith. He originally appeared in the2005Star Wars Legends video gameStar Wars: Republic Commando.
According to theRevenge of the Sith DVD text commentary, during Yoda's "goodbye" scene to Chewbacca and Tarfful in the film, Tarfful's roar is actuallyItchy's roar fromThe Star Wars Holiday Special.
In the2014 mobile gameStar Wars: Galactic Defense, Tarfful can be seen yelling "hnn-rowr yrroonn nng rarr," a quote which first appeared in theLegends comicStar Wars: Empire's End and meant "long live theNew Republic," when translated fromShyriiwook.
Tarfful was introduced as a playable character of the same name in the 2015 mobile gameStar Wars: Galaxy of Heroes in 2023, which features characters from both the canon and Legends continuities.[14]
