- "The Empire's Inquisitors appear to have first dibs on these prototypes. Unusual for TIEs, the v1s have shields, hyperdrives, and folding wing panels... One of these fell into our hands after the action at Mustafar and Harinar's crew has had a merry time taking it apart."
- ―Antoc Merrick inThe Rebel Files[10]
TheTIE/ad v1, orTIE Advanced v1, was an experimentalTIE fighter model of theImperial Navy.
Description[]

A TIE/ad v1's s-foils folded when in landing configuration.
The TIE/ad v1 was heavily based offRepublic Sienar Systems' ownScimitar. Thestarfighter was fitted with basic shields, and unlike theTIE Advanced x1, the v1'sS-foils could fold in around the cockpit when not in flight, conserving hangar space. Unusual for aTIE model, it had solar panels only on the inside surface of the wings with armor on the outside surfaces in order to make it more resistant to lateral enemy fire. This resulted in low power output from the panels, requiring the engines to run on fuel instead of the solar reactor, which only powered weapons, sensors, and auxiliary systems.[1] These engines were an upgrade on the standard ones used for the standardImperialTIE/ln.[11] The TIE/ad v1 was armed with dual chin mountedlaser cannons, stronger than those of theTIE/ln space superiority starfighter, and aprojectile launcher, used to firetracking devices like theXX-23 S-thread tracker. Unlike most other TIE models, the v1 was outfitted with ahyperdrive and basic shields.[1] Overall, the TIE/ad v1 was an experimental and groundbreaking design[11] that was held in high regard by theImperial Navy.[3]
History[]
- "And who better to take this beauty on her maiden voyage than one of the best imperial pilots on Lothal — Baron Valen Rudor."
- ―MinisterMaketh Tua, revealing the TIE/ad v1 on Empire Day[3]

The Inquisitor's TIE/ad v1 pursuing rebels
The TIE/ad v1 was unveiled onEmpire Day, on theplanetLothal, fifteenyears after the formation of theGalactic Empire. During the unveiling, it was announced that the TIE/ad v1 would be produced on Lothal bySienar Fleet Systems. It was to be flown byBaronValen Rudor. Immediately after the unveiling, the TIE/ad v1 was destroyed byKanan Jarrus.[3]During the same year, a pair of TIE/ad v1 crafts were in use atSienar Test Facility 73, as part ofthe base’s defense. Both of these starfighters were destroyed byCassian Jeron Andor as he made hisescape in his stolenTIE Avenger. As Andor led his pursuers through a canyon onSienar 73, he shot an overhanging ledge with his ship'smissiles, crushing the two Imperial TIEs.[12]
The Grand Inquisitor was entrusted with aTIE Advanced v1 of his own due to the sensitive nature of his top-secret missions in hunting downJedi. This particular TIE was stolen by Kanan Jarrus and hisPadawan,Ezra Bridger, when fleeing theMustafar system.[8] Afterward, it was given to the rebellion, where MajorCapin Harinar's unit analyzed it.[10]
Later on, both theFifth Brother and theSeventh Sister were also seen using TIE/ad v1s during a mission to the planetTakobo to recover a Force sensitive Ithorian baby. These were destroyed byGarazeb Orrelios andChopper when they found them in their hangar.[13] They received replacements soon after, and used them to pursue thePhoenix Cell Jedi to thetemple onLothal.[14]

The Fifth Brother arrives on Malachor.
TheEighth Brother also used a TIE/ad v1 to travel toMalachor and findMaul. It was later hijacked by Chopper, and then used by Maul to escape the planet.[15]
After theBattle of Yavin,Lindon Javes flew one as the flight lead ofHelix Squadron. During theBattle at Fostar Haven, he used the ion torpedoes to disable his wingmates in order to save aconvoy of refugees fromAlderaan. He then defected to therebellion whenEcho Squadron arrived.[9]
Behind the scenes[]
Star Wars Rebels: Head to Head gives the length of a TIE/ad v1 as 3.57meters, butStar Wars Rebels: Beware the Inquisitor! states that the Inquisitor's TIE measures 9.2 meters in length. This article assumes the former source is correct. TheStar Wars: Imperial Handbook: A Commander's Guide, which was developed prior to the reclassification of the Expanded Universe asStar Wars Legends and is based almost entirely in that material, includes a mention of the v1 model.
