A T-6 shuttle in landing configuration
Manufactured by theVerpine hives ofSlayn & Korpil,[3] the semicircular T-6shuttle[2] featured a rotating engine block andcockpit that oriented with the rest of theship when landed or in flight,[4] a trait made possible by shock-resistant gimbals, one of many technological advancements included in the shuttle by its Verpine designers.[3] In its landing configuration, the ship sat horizontally, supported by a trio of landing gear. The cockpit, somewhat conical in shape, remained aligned with the body of the craft, with the three engines likewise horizontally aligned with the body of the shuttle. When entering flight mode, the cockpit and the engine block rotated ninety degrees. The craft had one loading ramp, located on the port side of the engine block.[4] Shuttles of this class featuredejector seats that, when launched, enclosed the being in a flexible, cushionedsurvival capsule.[8][7] They also featuredgyro stabilizers.[6]
Due to its role as an ambassadorial craft, the T-6 shuttle lacked weaponry, but was equipped with ahyperdrive. Furthermore, the craft's spacious interior provided for reasonably comfortablespace travel.[12] When pressed into service during theClone Wars,Republic T-6 shuttles were adorned with aGalactic Roundel and painted in the red-and-white color scheme of theGrand Army of the Republic,[2] though they remained unarmed.[5] They could be equipped with a pair ofMissile launchers.[6]
History[]
- "I could fly this thing withboth engines on quarter power, Master..."
- ―Anakin Skywalker, toObi-Wan Kenobi[6]
Crafted by the Verpine shipbuilders of theRoche system, T-6 shuttles were designed for theJedi Order,[3] which employed the craft since at least32 BBY.[10] Their use by theJedi,[13] primarily in times of peace,[12] earned them the nickname "Jediambassador shuttles,"[13] although elitecitizens of the RepubliccapitalplanetCoruscant used the craft as well.[3] A Jedi T-6 was aboard theVenator-class Star DestroyerResolute after abattle onDevaron[4] in around 22 BBY.[14] Following thecapture of theDurosbounty hunterCad Bane, the T-6 shuttle was used totransportJedi MastersMace Windu andObi-Wan Kenobi, Bane, andClone CommanderCC-2224 to Bane'shideout in theasteroid-strewnRogue Antar system to retrieve a stolenholocron. However, thespace station proved to be a trap—Bane eluded his captors and activated the hideout'sself-destruct sequence before departing in anescape pod. Windu, Kenobi, andCommander Cody left in their shuttle with the recovered holocron before the station exploded.[4]

Following the destruction of theFelucia medical station, JediAnakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, andAhsoka Tano took a T-6 shuttle toFelucia toinvestigate themedical center's disappearance. Upon their arrival, the shuttle was attacked byVulture droids launched from adeployment pod. Thedroid starfighters shot and disabled the unarmed shuttle, but the trio of Jedi escaped using their ejector seats before the shuttle collided with amountain on the planet's surface.[8]
Around21 BBY,[15] JediPlo Koon and Ahsoka Tano used a T-6 shuttle to travel toFlorrum in search of thebounty huntersBoba Fett,Aurra Sing, andBossk, who had taken hostages from the crew of theStar DestroyerEndurance. The Jedi confronted the renegades on the planet and rescued two of the hostages, capturing Fett and Bossk in the process. The T-6 shuttle was then used to transport the Republic forces and their captives to theRepublic Judiciary Central Detention Center on Coruscant.[16] Another T-6 shuttle was used by Padawan Tano andPantoranSenatorRiyo Chuchi to travel to aTrade FederationDroid Control Ship abovePantora during their search for the kidnapped daughters of PantoranChairmanNotluwiski Papanoida.[17] Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker later used a shuttle to journey toDathomir to uncover the origins of adark side warrior,Savage Opress, who was responsible for thedeaths oftwoJedi. After learning that Opress was onToydaria, the duo took the craft to theToydarianhomeworld toconfront theacolyte. The shuttle was destroyed by Opress as he made his escape.[18]

A T-6 shuttle was utilized by JediJyl Somtay to retrieve Skywalker and Kenobi following their successfulsabotage of aSeparatist munitions factory'sforce field during the war. A subsequent Republic attack on the factory was thwarted, however, when the SeparatistwarshipStarcrusher destroyed the threeVenator-class Star Destroyers attacking the facility. Somtay managed to avoid theStarcrusher'stractor beam and escape intohyperspace with the two passengers aboard; she later piloted the T-6 during a Jedimission to destroy the Separatist warship. Ahsoka Tano, one of the Jedi aboard the T-6, reprogrammed the shuttle to fly toward theStarcrusher once the Jedi strike team had successfully boarded aSeparatist refueling ship. The empty T-6 shuttle was then destroyed by theStarcrusher's batteries as cover for the team's infiltration.[9]
Skywalker and Tano utilized a T-6 shuttle in their pursuit of bounty hunterRako Hardeen—who was, unbeknownst to them, Obi-Wan Kenobi in disguise—when Hardeen was implicated in Kenobi'sdeath, an elaborate ruse conceived by theJedi High Council to uncover a plot to kidnap RepublicSupreme ChancellorPalpatine. The bounty hunter's trail led to the planetNal Hutta, from which Skywalker and Tano followed the disguised Kenobi andassassins-for-hire Cad Bane andMoralo Eval to afueling station on nearbyOrondia. The two Jedi succeeded inbringing down the bounty hunters'Personal Luxury Yacht 3000 with their T-6 shuttle, though the maneuver forced the shuttle to also crash.[19] A T-6 shuttle later transported Palpatine and several others to the planetNaboo for theFestival of Light celebration, where the kidnapping was attempted.[20] Kenobi and Plo Koon, along with fellow JediBruu Jun-Fan,Grohto,Ko Solok, andTatsu, took a T-6 shuttle to the planetOrto Norwe to investigate a lead on tracking down Savage Opress and his resurrected brother,Darth Maul, who had begun a series of massacres throughout theOuter Rim Territories.[21]
In theyear20 BBY,[22] Kenobi, Skywalker, andClone trooper sergeantThill took an Arquitens and sacrificed it during amission to Felucia, using the debris as a cover to infiltrate aFelucia Separatist base using a T-6 shuttle. The debris knocked down the power to one quarter, meaning they had to crash in the moss. After laying the transmitters, the trio returned to the shuttle with a group of orphaned children, so it did not have enough power to takeoff. Kenobi came up with the idea of using the shuttle to slide down the hill and avoid the impendingorbital bombardment. Skywalker fired missiles at trees in their path, clearing the way. The mission ended with the base destroyed.[6]
Later in the war, Skywalker and Tano took a T-6 toMalastare toinvestigate the disappearance of Master Koon. Tano ended up racing and beating the Separatist sympathizerDrez Unlin. After arresting him they returned to their shuttle.[23]
The shuttle was still used during theGalactic Civil War. In0 ABY, theRebel Alliance had one at theArrocharbase.Leia Organa piloted it withC-3PO to investigate anImperial super hauler which had arrived there with a faulty navigation system.[11]
Behind the scenes[]
- "[…] Ireally like this T-6 shuttle. We started to use it quite extensively; I mean, it really has replaced theTwilight, you know, in my eyes."
- ―Dave Filoni[24]
The T-6 shuttle was first seen in a piece of concept art done by Russell Chong and published inThe Art of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.[13] The ship first appeared in "Children of the Force," the third episode inSeason Two of theStar Wars: The Clone Wars television series, which aired onOctober 9,2009.[4] The craft went unnamed in the episode but was given the designation "T-6 shuttle" in the accompanying episode guide, which was published onStarWars.com later the same day.[2] T-6 shuttles would later appear in several additional episodes of the series.[8][16][17][18] The craft also made appearances in twoLEGO stories, both of which are non-canon—the online comicJedi Journal Entry #968[25] and the animated featureThe Padawan Menace.[26] Series DirectorDave Filoni considers the shuttle, with itsMillennium Falcon–like cockpit canopy, to be "one of [his] favorite" ships fromThe Clone Wars, eclipsing the boxyG9 Rigger freighterTwilight in his opinion.[24]
Theonline guide for "Revival," the first episode ofThe Clone Wars: Season Five, incorrectly identifies anEta-class shuttle as a T-6 shuttle.[27]
