LANDO IS ALL IN! THE TRIAL OF LANDO CALRISSIAN for treason against the REBEL ALLIANCE comes down to its stunning finale! The evidence is not in Lando's favor, nor is the fact that he's offered a full confession to the crimes of which he is accused. Does he have any cards left to play?

Opening crawl[]

THE TRIAL OF LANDO CALRISSIAN, PART 4:
SENTENCING
As Lando stands trial for traitorous crimesbefore top Rebellion leaders, a mysteriousgroup captured Mon Mothma from herremote location!Lando then provided information to theRebellion about the mercenaries. AtChewbacca's request, he accompaniedthe mission to rescue Mothma. Now Mothma is back to safety and is readyto continue Lando's trial….

Plot summary[]

Lando Calrissian is asleep in his cell on the detention level ofHome One. AnEG-6 power droid connects to the door panel and causes toxicgas to fill the cell, nearlykilling theprisoner. ThedroidThree-Ell, owned by Calrissian'slawyerSalli Georgio, catches the droid, incapacitates it, disconnects the toxic gas line, and opens the door to rescue Calrissian. A group ofRebeltroopers approach the escaped prisoner, who sits wearily against the wall, blasters drawn. Georgio quickly approaches and talks down the troopers. She tells Lando that this assassination attempt is good for their case, as it shows that someone is afraid Lando may survive thetrial.

Back in thecourtroom, Georgio addresses the assassination attempt, to whichAdmiralGial Ackbar suggests it was a holdover malfunction of thescourge which recently afflicted droids acrossthe galaxy, a theory Georgio does not buy.

Georgio callsLobot to the stand. She has thehybroid discuss how Lando facilitated Lobot regaining his speech and emotional expression, and Lobot explains that Lando is fiercely loyal. He claims that Lando is loyal to him and to the Alliance. Lobot points out that the contradiction of an alleged traitor being loyal is the hierarchy of his loyalty: Lobot has been a priority over the Alliance, leading to his actions.

Before Lando takes the stand, he asks to speak toLeia Organa about something important. For transparency, Leia asks him to share it openly with the room. Facing skepticism fromGeneralCrix Madine regarding emotional manipulation, Lando confesses to Leia that when he was atJabba'sPalace, he learned a lot of intelligence that would come in handy in a rescue ofHan Solo. His one condition for giving the intelligence to her was for Lobot to be protected from getting caught up in Lando's punishment. She and the Alliance agree.

In lieu of being interviewed by Georgio, Calrissian opts for a speech. He acknowledges that when he first was arrested, he was downtrodden, believing he deserved to die for a lifetime of poor behavior. Now, however, he is done with that mindset. He highlights that all of the Rebels are, by definition, criminals, and that judgment of actions is a matter of perspective. He reaffirms his loyalty to the Alliance and accepts whatever their judgment of him may be. He closes by reminding them that they are lucky to have had Lando Calrissian in their ranks at all.

During closing statements, Georgio cuts offDarrien Muskray's statement and implores the magistrates to drop the theatrics of the trial. She claims that the reason they are keeping the trial such a secret is because Lando is so well-liked by other Rebels, that the theatrics simply were a way to stall for time, and that in order to win thewar, they need to find a way to live with Lando's actions since he is such a valuable asset.

Five minutes later, the High Command delivers their judgment. They find Lando guilty of multiple charges. For his sentence, they do not give him a penalty of death as expected, but instead a fee of 250 millioncredits. His fee will not be due until the end of the war, and the amount he owes will decrease over time due to good behavior, such as volunteering for missions. Nevertheless, Madine promises to keep a close eye on Lando. Lando decides to celebrate over drinks.

Later, Lando sees Georgio off. He questions how much of the irregularities surrounding his trail were her doing. She implies that she may have been behindMon Mothma's kidnapping and Lando's attempted murder. Even so, she points out to Lando that he is very valuable to the Alliance and that his value largely springs from his own belief in the Alliance and himself. She admires the personal growth she has seen in him. With a kiss on the cheek, she asks him to stay out of trouble and boards theMillennium Falcon.
