Plot summary[]

A Wookiee's quest[]

On a rebel ship in deep space, Luke Skywalker is interrupted from his Force training by C-3PO and R2-D2, who has a message for him about the planet Elphrona. But Chewbacca enters, excited, and C-3PO translates his news: a contact on the smuggler's moon of Nar Shaddaa has spotted the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett. Since Fett hasHan Solo frozen in carbonite, Chewbacca wants to investigate. Luke agrees, but Chewbacca dismisses the idea of bringing along Lando, saying he can't be trusted.

Hutt Space encounters[]

Aboard theMillennium Falcon, Chewbacca, Luke, and the droids travel to Nar Shaddaa. C-3PO assures a disgruntled R2-D2 that his message can wait. Luke remarks that the whole moon is a dangerous place. After landing, Chewbacca meets with an old Wookiee friend named Sagwa, whom he once freed from a spice mine on Kessel. Sagwa, who feels he owes Chewbacca a great debt, reveals that a new champion was recently crowned in the Garkata fighting arena. The new champion, named "Jango," defeated the long-standing champion, and Luke notes his resemblance to Fett.

Sagwa, a guard at the arena, attempts to get information from an alien worker, who says money can get them information. Luke hands over some credits and asks if the champion "Jango" is Boba Fett. The worker reveals that fighters use whatever name they want, and then calls in a group of armed criminals who claim "Jango" owes them money. They demand Luke and his friends follow them.

Luke ignites his lightsaber and a shootout ensues. The criminals call for reinforcements, realizing they can get a bounty for turning in a Jedi. Luke and Chewbacca fight back as Sagwa hits a hidden button, revealing a secret passage to the street. They escape in a speeder, with Chewbacca at the helm, leaving the criminals to report the Jedi sighting to the Imperial Garrison.

A new hope and a new message[]

Safe aboard theMillennium Falcon, C-3PO tells Luke that Sagwa is ready to join the Rebellion. R2-D2 finally gets a chance to share his message, which is a list of former Jedi outposts across the galaxy. R2-D2 acquired the data from a database he accessed while on the Death Star. Luke realizes these are locations where he can learn more about the Jedi. As he considers the decades of exploration ahead, Sagwa enters the cockpit with an urgent message: General Organa has sent a transmission claiming an unknown party has possession of Han Solo and Leia needs theMillennium Falcon to return immediately.
