- ―Garven Dreis[1]

A T-70 X-wing with S-foils locked in attack position.
S-foils, also referred to asStrike foils orstability foils, were independent movable wings attached tostarships that allowed for the activation of defensive systems.[2] They were mounted ontostarfighters such as the various models ofX-wing starfighter,[1] theARC-170 starfighter,[3] theOutland TIE fighter,[4] and theU-wing starfighter,[5] sometimes equipped with weaponry. The foils were locked in the closed position in normal flight, but when engaged in combat the foils spread open into an attack position. Notable starfighter models that had S-foils were theT-65B X-wing starfighter[1] manufactured byIncom Corporation,[6] theT-70 andT-85 X-wing starfighters, manufactured byIncom-FreiTek Corporation,[7] and theB-wing starfighter[8] manufactured bySlayn & Korpil.[6] The distinctive X shape when the S-foils were locked in attack position gave thelaser cannons mounted on each wing a wider field of fire.[9]
