"This is Commander Poe Dameron of the Republic fleet, I have an urgent communique for General Hugs."
"Patch him through. This is General Hux of the First Order. The Republic is no more. Your fleet are rebel scum and war criminals."
―Poe Dameron and Armitage Hux[2]

TheResistance navy, also known as theResistance fleet, was thenaval branch of theResistance's private military group that opposed theFirst Order during theCold War, and the subsequentwar. The Resistance navy was initially based onD'Qar, though it was laterpursued throughhyperspace by the First Order.

Description[]

Officerranks within the navy wereLieutenant,Captain,Major,Commander,Colonel, andAdmiral. Ranking members of the Resistance navy could be identified by abadge withblue markings. Aiding the navy was the services of theStarfighter Corps.[1]

History[]

Cold war[]

A number ofResistance and formerNew Republicofficers aided in theeffort against theFirst Order due to the lack of action in theGalactic Senate.[1]

First Order–Resistance war[]

Battle of Starkiller Base[]

"So we disable the shields, we take out the oscillator, and we blow up their big gun. Alright, let's go."
―Poe Dameron[5]

After theFirst Orderdestroyed theHosnian system, the Resistance deployed its starfighters toStarkiller Base in order todestroy itsthermal oscillator, whileHan Solo,Chewbacca andFinn disabled the shields, allowing its destruction while the weapon homed in onD'Qar. After Chewbacca detonated the bombs, the navy, after multiple runs at the base andPoe Dameron's decisive solo attack, managed to destroy the inner workings of the oscillator and return to base.[5]

Evacuation[]

At the time of the following events, the Resistance Navy over D'Qar consisted of theMC85 Star CruiserRaddus,Free Virgillia-class BunkerbusterNinka,Nebulon-C escort frigateAnodyne andVakbeor-class cargo frigateVigil, as well as several fighter squadrons consisting ofT-70 X-wing starfighters,RZ-2 A-wing interceptors, andMG-100 StarFortress SF-17s.[2]

Shortly after Starkiller Base was destroyed, the Resistance fleet beganevacuating their base on D'Qar. The escape was interrupted by the arrival of a First Order fleet consisting of threeResurgent-class Star Destroyers and oneMandator IV-class Siege DreadnoughtFulminatrix. TheFulminatrix bombarded the Resistance base but the rebels had already evacuated into space. To buy time for the Resistance transports to escape, Commander Poe Dameron attacked the dreadnought with his T-70 X-wing starfighter, eliminating its surface cannons and clearing the way for the Resistance'sCobalt Squadron to attack. Despite taking out theFulminatrix, all bombers were lost but the rest of the fleet was able to escape through hyperspace.[2]

Being chased by the First Order[]

When the Resistance jumped out of hyperspace, they were quickly confronted by the First Order fleet, which was led by Supreme Leader Snoke's flagship, theMega-class Star DreadnoughtSupremacy. The First Order had managed to track them down through a new technology known as thehyperspace tracker and destroyed theVigil within minutes due to the frigate not having its shield up in time. For the next eighteen hours, the three remaining Resistance ships,MC85 Star Cruiser (Raddus),Nebulon-C escort frigate (Anodyne), andFree Virgillia-class Bunkerbuster (Ninka), led the First Order on a chase. After General Organa was wounded during a First Order attack,Vice AdmiralAmilyn Holdo was placed in command of the Resistance fleet.[2]

The demoted Captain Dameron suggested that they come up with a strategy to attack the First Order fleet but she was intent on maintaining their current course of action. As the Resistance fleet ran out of fuel, Admiral Holdo revealed her plan to evacuate theRaddus using a fleet of thirtyU-55 orbital loadlifters to travel to the planetCrait, which was home to a formerRebel Alliancebase. However, the Resistance's plan was revealed to the First Order by theslicerDJ in exchange for his freedom and a large sum of money. As a result, the First Order attacked the fleeing Resistance ships, destroying all but six.[2]

Holdo perished aboard the strickenRaddus with the resulting explosion seriously damaging the Mega-Destroyer and destroying twenty Resurgent Star Destroyers. Following theBattle of Crait, the surviving members of the Resistance escaped aboard theMillennium Falcon with the help of the lastJediRey and Chewbacca.[2] The Resistance regrouped atRyloth and launched amission to Corellia and, in an attempt to steal starfighters, amission to Bracca. This latter operation was under the command ofShriv Suurgav and successfully led to the capture of several ships.[11]

The Resistance subsequently established anew base on the planetAjan Kloss. After Rey obtained the coordinates the throneworld ofDarth Sidious, who managed to return, onExegol,GeneralPoe Dameron, who had assumed leadership of the Resistance following the death of General Organa, assembled the Resistance navy for anattack on Exegol before Sidious could launch theSith Eternal's fleet, theFinal Order, and combine it with the First Order to establish a newSith Empire and complete the contingency of his master plan to achieve the Revenge of theSith. The Resistance fleet was quickly overwhelmed by theSith Eternal forces, resulting in significant casualties includingMajorTemmin Wexley.[3]

Fortunately for the Resistance navy, they were relieved by a massiveCitizens' Fleet led byGeneralLando Calrissian. These reinforcements helped the Resistance'sExegol air team and ships to take out theXyston-class Star Destroyers. Several Resistance ships, including theTantive IV, were destroyed by Sidious'Force lightning attack. Meanwhile, GeneralFinn'sExegol landing team took out theResurgent-class Star DestroyerSteadfast while Rey finally killed theSith Lord with the help of JediForce spirits. Following the defeat of Darth Sidious and the Sith Eternal, the Resistance and its allies returned to Ajan Kloss to celebrate.[3]
