Realspace, known by theVagaari ascrawlspace^[2] and usually referred to simply asspace by those living within it, referred to theknown universe when viewed by an observer traveling at less than thespeed of light. Filled almost entirely withvacuum, but containingstars,planets, and other astronomical bodies, it was the dimension within whichHumans and nearly all otherinhabitants ofthe galaxy lived.

Other distinct dimensions werehyperspace, through whichstarships could travel faster than light;subspace, which was utilized forfaster-than-light communication; andotherspace, the home dimension of theCharon species.

Traveling in particularly isolated areas of space known asdeep space for extended periods of time led to the condition known asdeepsick, which causedmental and emotional breakdown.
