Project Swarm was the codename of an operation by theGalactic Empire to discover the location of theAlliance to Restore the Republic's new headquarters following theevacuation ofYavin 4.^[2] The project was conceived byMajor Roj Ohjon of theUbiqtorate and involved the mass deployment ofViper probe droids^[3] inhyperdrive pods all acrossthe galaxy. A multitude of analysts were tasked with searching the collected data. However, the initial lack of progress irritatedLord Darth Vader, whoexecuted the project's initialsupervisor,Major Yaltza.General Maximilian Veers of theImperial Army then took the mantle, just when 100,000Viper droids had already been launched.^[2]

At the suggestion ofProfessor Ud, who pointed out that the Alliance had used ancient sites before, Veers assembled a team ofarchaeological consultants, which includedChelli Lona Aphra. The first lead the new team investigated was adeathshrine of theCentral Isopter onAsh Moon 1. There was no Alliance base at the deathshrine, but Ud died after triggering a trap, andKorin Aphra was found lurking on the premises and captured.^[2] Probe droids were deployed tosystems such asCophrigin,Sha Qarot,Dresscol,Jinet,Tibalt,Bovo Yagen,De'nel,Zandrax,Intran,Kemix, andUdine.^[4] Eventually, probeXJ9-CS14 was deployed to theplanet Hoth and managed to findthe base, which led to a majorbattle and the destruction of the Rebel base.^[1] This favorable outcome to the project was considered a great success of the Military intelligence and led to Major Ohjon being promoted toColonel and re-assigned toCoruscant.^[3]
