Specifications[]
A relatively simple design based upon hisMasterQui-Gon Jinn'slightsaber, Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi's weapon featured a solid hilt with the exception of the handgrip surrounding thediatium power cell. The emitter barrel had all of the controls mounted onto it which included the activator, blade length and intensity control, and blade power adjust, as well as the weapon's radiator grooves. This was separated from the body of the weapon by a cut-back portion which also held the internaladegan crystal. Immediately below was the main body with a ridged handgrip, which thickened near the bottom of the section where the charging port was, concealed by the belt clip. The pommel was a black sphere and housed the power cell reserve cap which had six evenly spaced protrusions around the pommel.[3]
History[]

Obi-Wan Kenobi using his lightsaber to help Qui-Gon Jinn dueling Darth Maul in Theed's hangar.
Obi-Wan Kenobi created the lightsaber during his time as a Padawan learner and modeled it after Qui-Gon's weapon as a mark of respect.[3] It was at his side during theInvasion of Naboo, and Kenobi used it to defend himself from severalbattle droids on theSaak'ak before being overwhelmed bydroidekas. Later, the swamplands on theplanetNaboo, the weapon shorted out when it came in contact with the swamp's murkywater while he was under attack by a pair ofSingle Trooper Aerial Platforms.[1]
Upon receiving transport to Naboo'scapital,Theed, from theGungans, Kenobi and Jinn savedQueenPadmé Amidala from several battle droids. After traveling toTatooine andCoruscant, Kenobi returned to Naboo where a rebellion was planned against theTrade Federation which had invaded their planet. In Theed, Jinn and Kenobi were confronted by theSith LordDarth Maul, whokilled the elder Jedi in theduel andforced the younger into a generator shaft with only a power node as a hand-hold. Although the Padawan's lightsaber was kicked down into the endless abyss, Kenobi was able to use his fallen master'sweapon to defeat his opponent.[1]
In28 BBY, Obi-Wan would later build asecond lightsaber almost identical to the original weapon.[4]
