TheNorthern Windfarm, also known as theGeonosian Compound, was awindfarm and storage complex in the northernJundland Wastes on theplanetTatooine during theCold War between theGalactic Republic and theSith Empire. One of the facility's warehouses was used by local criminals to storespice, but thewindfarm was overrun by members of theGeonosianspecies during the Cold War. The facility fell into disrepair as a result, and in addition to conducting raids on local settlements, the Geonosians occupying the farm were also employed by theSith Empire to constructdroid-borne bombs.
Description[]
The Northern Windfarm was awindfarm in theDeathly Heat, a region in the northernJundland Wastes on theplanetTatooine. A number of other houses and facilities were located in the area and formed a kind of unofficialtownship. The facility occupied a large depression in the sands of thedesert and consisted of a number of buildings as well five large wind vanes. The largest were two rectangular warehouses; four smaller circular buildings were situated just west of thenorthern warehouse, and one of the buildings was topped by a largemoisture vaporator. Asecond warehouse was located to the southwest, and a large circular tower was situated south of the main farm. Thewindfarm's five large vanes were situated just north of the farm's buildings, though the farm was taken over by members of theGeonosianspecies during theCold War between theGalactic Republic and theSith Empire, and two of the vanes had collapsed due to disrepair. Three other wind vanes were located south of the southern warehouse, along the edge of theNorthern Jundland Plateau.[1]
History[]
The Northern Windfarm had been in operation before the Cold War but had been abandoned[1] by theyear3643 BBY,[3] when Geonosians took over the windfarm along with most of the region,[1] leading to the area being named the Geonosian Compound. Despite the farm's abandonment, the southern warehouse had been used by local criminals to storespice. After taking control of the compound, the Geonosians began to raid nearby settlements.[4] Twomonths after the Geonosians invaded the windfarm,ColonelGorik of theSith Empire employed the GeonosianKyvax to constructdroid-bombs that were used to attack the settlement ofAnchorhead. After learning that the Geonosians were producing the bombs, the eliteRepublic Special ForcesunitHavoc Squad investigated the warehouse at the Northern Windfarm, where its members encountered Kyvax and overheard a conversation between Kyvax and Gorik that confirmed the Empire's involvement in the bombings. After fighting its way out of the warehouse, Havoc Squad then returned to Anchorhead and continued to track down Gorik.[1]
Around the sametime, aJedi Knight visited the windfarm to set up anultrasonic scanner as part of an effort to locate theShock Drum, asuperweapon that caused seismic vibrations; theJedi Knight fought through the Geonosians in the area and set up thescanner before departing.[2] Also around that time, the Geonosians from the windfarm attacked the nearbyUt'ttailri Jawa Camp, aJawa settlement built around a damagedsandcrawler, and stole parts that the Jawas needed to repair their vehicle. AJedi who was searching for theJedi MasterEriz Vossan made a deal with the Jawas to recover their stolen parts in exchange for information on Vossam's whereabouts, and theJedi Consular reacquired the parts from around the compound.[5] Asmuggler was sent to reacquire a tooth from a rarekrayt dragon from the southern warehouse forTookreek, the owner ofTookreek's Cantina at the nearbyDreviad Outpost, and thesmuggler fought through the raiders to find the tooth.[4]
